3rd String QB - Joe Milton? Wherefore art thou, Brandon Peters?
SIAP or discussed but I have been dealing with a family matter and am not caught up in all things Michigan.
I noticed in the follow-up after the game that it was stated (paraphrased), that Joe Milton has taken over as the #3 QB.
Having a hard time finding out how or why Milton passed up Brandon Peters.
Is Brandon Peters hurt?
Thanks in advance.
And to defray negs due to my ignorance of the situation - here is a funny image that has Always Been Here.

Seems like the other QBs are just better than Peters.

McCaffery is definitely second string now.
Regarding Milton, the first package for him was a designed run as well as the end of game snaps. I think it was more about getting Milton some game experience and not putting Peters in simply to hand off at the tail end of a blowout. This has been Harbaugh's MO in the past. If a veteran isn't in the top rotation, you don't "embarrass" him by making him play mop-up duty.

Hoping everyone sees this and makes a mental note for the next few years. McCaffrey not McCaffery. Nothing against you. Just drives me nuts to see it.

I still rermember that great year Harlan Huckleby had with Green Bay. I remember when he crushed that big, blitzing LB too.

I can't even tell what you are saying. Are you future-correcting spelling erroros on a name that's pretty hard to get all the letttrs right?
October 15th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
The thought that keeps coming back for me is in "All or Nothing" where his family is sitting on the couch and his dad says (paraphrasing), "If this is it, I'll be ok with that". They seem to be excited about the future but proud of their son's accomplishments. To be on top of the world like that to where he is not even 10 months later makes me feel for the kid.
If he does transfer (speculation), I hope he is able to get somewhere to play and play to the level he knows he can play at.

Totally agree. I wish nothing but the best for Brandon.

I didn't see it in the boards. My bad.

He's talking about his own double comment. You're good

Yep, my comment posted twice.
You're good.

I have no idea but if I had to guess, both Peters and Milton will still redshirt this season. I'm sure Brandon could get a medical redshirt if he wanted.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
Peters can't redshirt. He already has so unless they can prove his redshirt both years are injury related, it is no impact if he plays in garbage time or not.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:11 PM ^
Unless he gets selected for scout team player of the week multiple times...
October 15th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
I wasn't aware of that. Thanks. Just so I understand fully:
so let's say you redshirt as a freshman and then in your 3rd or 4th year get hurt and can't play the entire year, you still can't medically redshirt?
October 15th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
You have 5 years to play 4. Unless you get a medical hardship waiver. It doesn't matter when you use the redshirt, but you have 5 for 4.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
I think they brought Milton as an unknown entity more than as a legitimate progression down the depth chart.
I wouldn't look at his inclusion as a true indicator that Peters is no being considered, or is hurt.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
Except that doesn't explain why Milton, rather than Peters, was in for the last drive of the game. Methinks Peters will be transferring (barring some unexpected circumstances over the next five games).
October 15th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
Maybe they want to get him experience and can still maintain his red shirt. Now if our first two QBs get injured and he is next man up, then I will be confident he is our 3rd stringer.
October 15th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
This is what I assumed they were doing. They wanted Milton to run that gadget play, or whatever it was supposed to be, early in the game. He can play four games and preserve his redshirt. Since he's already played in this game, might as well give him a few mop-up snaps late.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:55 PM ^
Could be Othernel - but I found the specific comment from Adam:
"Joe Milton—who seems to have taken over the third-string spot—rushing twice for 22 yards."
October 15th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
Probably trying to get a hold of Jeff Brohm
October 15th, 2018 at 2:04 PM ^
Why? Is Peters looking to go to Louisville?
October 15th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
Why not? It's fairly close to his parents home in Indianapolis.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
My completely uneducated guess is that Milton was in the game for recruiting purposes, to show the 30-odd recruits on the sideline that they can play in big-time games as true freshmen. If Patterson and McCaffrey were both out, I think Peters would be the next QB up.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:00 PM ^
My guess is Milton played because he can and still redshirt.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
And that in no way explains why the coaches would put them in when they did for the run play.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
Definitely agree with this. I remember another discussion at some point over the last couple years about a bunch of freshmen getting into a game that some big time recruits were attending. It also seems like Harbaugh tries to get kids extra snaps if they are playing somewhere near the hometown.
October 15th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Harbaugh definitely cares about family considerations, hometown pride, etc.
He understands the place of sports in life and how those things interconnect.
For him, strengthening the young men in their relationships and their roots is part of the big picture of making them great student-athletes.
He's a throwback to another time, and I love that about him.

So this is how your post appeared. Man the ads are getting sneaky!
October 15th, 2018 at 2:28 PM ^
I like it. Play the freshman during the big games. Helps to get them big time experience, rewards them for practicing their asses off during the season and if you keep it to only four games they still keep that redshirt tag. Also it can't hurt with the recruiting.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
I don't like it. That threw off the first drive completely. If we didn't blow out wisconsin and it was a close game, we'd be looking back at that with a lot of contempt. It was a stupid move.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
I agree with this take. Harbaugh has played true Freshman unexpectedly on other big recruiting weekends in the past.
I think it was definitely "if you come here and you're an ATHLETE, we will find something for you to do as a Freshman".
October 15th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
I think it’s a safe bet at this point that Peters will be a grad transfer.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
I had this in the back of my mind, but didn't want to have it in the OP.
October 15th, 2018 at 1:54 PM ^
And it will be interesting to see how many years of eligibility he has left. At minimum, he has 2.
October 15th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
There were Peters transfer rumors earlier in the Summer as well. It did not benefit him in anyway to transfer this season, so he stuck it out. Maybe he told Harbaugh that he's out and Harbaugh agreed to keep it quiet?
Also, there were Milton transfer rumors earlier in the summer as well, so maybe Harbaugh is showing Milton some love to keep him at Michigan?
October 15th, 2018 at 2:40 PM ^
Why would there be Milton transfer rumors when he had only participated for spring ball??
October 15th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
There were some "rumors" about it, but it was probably some James Yoder bullshit that was just made up.
October 15th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
It was exactly just this. Stupid ass Yoder making things up. He claims he had a 20+ min convo on the phone with Rashan Gary's mom last week and she literally replied to the tweet that she has NEVER spoke to him before... He is a loser
October 15th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
If there were rumors of Milton transferring, they must have been ended when Kevin Doyle decommitted.
