Happy 10 Year Anniversary MGoSeniors
It was 10 years ago on June 30th that the blogspot era ended and the current Mgoblog.com began. Over the next few weeks, many of our MGoReaders will be celebrating 10 years following this glorious site. If you're also over the 10 plus years mark and were a MGoReader during the blogspot era, I give you a special tip of the cap as well. I'd like to thank Brian, Seth, and all the MGoContributors for the great work that they have done and are doing. We might not all love each other, but they have created a community where we all have one central theme, our love of the University of Michigan and its athletics. Here's to another 10 years of following Mgoblog. I'm now going to go back to lurking on all of your comments and posts. I leave you with one of the most important things that I have been symbolically given by this blog, which is my 2008 Fandom Endurance Merit Badge.

Some MGoLurkers will be celebrating 10 years as well. Just a little slower to finally register.
I did the same thing my first year before signing up so I understand. You are appreciated as well.
Yep I remember lurking back in 06. I even made it on a front page diary post after the 07 Wisconsin game when I emailed Brian about Tacopants winning the Heisman. But I didn’t have a screen name back then so it was just listed as “anonymous”. I finally figured out how to sign up in 2010.
That's me. Started lurking in 2008, daily obsession began in 2014, account in 2017!
Yep. I just never saw the reason to join the board, I mean what do I have to offer? Richard pushed me over the ledge...
jdon
This actually presents an interesting question! What Michigan sports event or incident brought you to this site for the very first time?
If it weren't for Brady Hoke leaving a concussed Shane Morris in against the Gophers, you people might never have been blessed with my presence (though I didn't create an account and post until we were fully imnersed in Harbaugh-watch).
Dee Hart commitment night. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Mine really wasn't an event. I started following Rivals and Scouts my senior year in 02 and I remember seeing somebody mention MGoBlog on a thread in 05. And the rest is history.
I was a long time lurker, but decided to grab this username when the Les Miles hiring was “confirmed”.
Forever and always, Fuck Herbstreit or however he spells his name
I know exactly what event turned me from a lurker to a poster. I was a newly minted Event Team Member (read usher) and we had our training date in Crisler and the Stadium where we were all briefed by one Dave Brandon on our new student seating policy...general admission. I think I emailed Brian with some particulars and commented on some post with my "insider" info.
Here's the result of said GA policy. The kids loved it and Coach Hoke was the best.
Edit ~~~~sorry the years don't match ~~~~I emailed Brian in 2013 and made an account a year later with some info from another favorite of Brian one Hunter Lochman.
Definitely the RichRod coaching search. I remember Brian reporting Carr's impending retirement before anyone else did, and IIRC, Sam Webb fielded a bunch of calls about it and apparently he did not have the info that Broan was privy to. He was basically skeptical of the report, but Brian obviously turned out to be right.
That was it for me, as well. Hard to believe it's been ten years.
RichRod search was it for me too. And I can tell you that now that I just reset my password AGAIN. Makes me long for HaloScan.
I don’t recall the actual event, but I seem to remember the New York Times or ESPN linking to the site. I took one look and have been hooked ever since.
I discovered this site when I was looking for information on the coaching search after RR was fired. It took me a while to make an account, and I don't post much, but I've been a faithful reader ever since that time.
Remember it like it was yesterday...
I was a sophomore in college, desperately trying to find info on the recruitment of T. Pryor. It took me roughly another year before I started reading regularly and for some reason I didn’t make an account until 2014.
Samesies!!
I jut discovered and began following the site in 2008, although not too closely, but the horrible falls of 2014 and then the Harbaugh coaching search got me obsessed and I was reading everything every day. I guess I just wanted to share my opinions after the amazing 2016 season that just fell short, so I created my account.
Had some guys in one of my engineering classes tell me about it and the rest is history
I got a link through SI.com back on one of the decimated defense articles in '10 I think. They were amazing and so well written. The depth was so much deeper than any of the sports sites I was going to. It was a little weird at first, like going to your first M-hockey game, as you don't know all the inside jokes and the chants. But maybe 6 months later I signed up. Watching the he Lloyd Brady thread and how it organically manifested itself out of a simple comment on one picture after a win was truly one of my favorite things ever.
The Horror brought me here, but I didn't set up an account until I survived the trauma of the 2008 season.
Can we fond out who has been a member the longest with the fewest points?
I definitely feel I'm in the running for that one. If getting paid to lurk was a thing I'd be doing pretty well.
I got to be close on this one.
My account was started in the fall of ‘08 and I’m in the 500 range. I’ve had a good year.
I feel like I could have a shot at this one.
A half a point a year is mighty impressive, son.
I'd upvote this, but I don't want to take any chances.
Give that man a trophy. King Lurker of the blog. Well done sir.
I wonder if we both joined to comment on the same post.
Just pushed you into second
I have to bow down to a legend like that. 300 points in a decade is mighty fine lurking.
I see what you did there!
By looking at your point total, you'll win this contest easily!
Been lurking since the Haloscan days. Does 5 points in 10 years make me the winner?
Holy shit.
Beat me by 2 months, impressive.
Took me darn near 10 years to get involved instead of just reading. Love to everyone on here. You’re all my brothers and sisters. Go Blue!!
It only took me 5 years of lurking to get an account--probably a full year to get off the front page and finally look at the board.
I was a scared little bitch who had just graduated from college and was starting my first career type job. I'd been following the blog closely since the 2007 OSU game, and got really hooked by the coaching search. I was too intimidated by all the graphs and maths and fancy grad school words to start an account immediately, but eventually I came around.
Same here, the education level of many of the posters here intimidated me and I didn't want to be labeled the board idiot. Eventually I came to terms with just being idiot anyway, so here we are.
I joined the original site right after that game as well. Visiting the site during the first coaching search was a multiple time daily addiction that continues to this day. Les Miles, flight tracker, stupid Herbstreit, RR, so many memories.
I was in the U.P. with no internet access until 7/8. I was surprised to see we were no longer on blogspot and re-singed up while watching Star Wars at the Franklin Square Inn in Houghton. I know, tl;dr so I'll leave you with this:
I joined about halfway through the 2010 offseason. I was halfway through my undergrad at EMU and the anti-RR sentiment was at it's zenith. I remember how high morale was during the early Hoke era and the dejection of the ensuing erosion. Anybody who kept their loyalty during those two eras has has earned a badge in my book. Keep the faith!

I started lurking in the summer of 2008, and I even created an account which I maybe used ten times in the three years of Rodriguez. In January of 2011, I created this account and began contributing to a community of people just as nuts about - and consequently driven insane by - Michigan sports as myself.
When were you offered the mod gig? And what's the story behind it?
Long story made short, I was made a mod in March 2013 and it basically sprang from several nominations I received in the thread in which BiSB more or less quit being a mod. I was actually flabbergasted that people thought I was a good choice - I drink and cuss and have the damnedest time moderating myself.
I remember the transition and going back and forth for a couple days about whether or not I wanted to register. I did. Spent that summer at work in the UM libraries posting ambivalently about Rich Rodriguez. Feels like 30 years ago.
RE: 30 years
My high school 30 year class reunion was last weekend. 30 years is an awful damn long time.
