Purdue Coach Hope Blames Noise for Loss
In the Purdue interview this morning, Purdue Coach Hope blamed their loss on the crowd noise. He discussed the fact that the O-Line did not "fire-off" at the same time and this caused problems for the offense. He went on to say that he thought the team was used to the noise because of the PSU game.
I guess he forgot to mention that the M D-Line dominated and man-handled the Purdue O-Line. Also, the M O-line opened gaping holes for Fitz and Mike. Certainly an interesting spin on the poor performance of his team.

Piped in music - 1, Boilers - 0

however, he does not indicate the source of the noise. I would think he ment crowd noise. If it were the piped in noise, Im sure he would have said something.

Can't penalties be called if piped in or band noise is a problem? Or is it just a convention?
October 31st, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
A couple weeks ago in the Missouri game, the officials actually stopped play to tell Missouri's Band to sut up as they were playing too close to the snap.

Perhaps it it just etiquette, but I have always been under the impression that the band/piped in sounds had to be cut off when the teams came to the line of scrimmage.

Purdue being a bad team and Danny Hope being a shitty coach and an asshat.

October 31st, 2011 at 5:42 AM ^
.....the voices in Danny Hope's head which cause him to be an asshat and make Purdue a bad team could have been "noise".
October 31st, 2011 at 7:58 AM ^
Does anyone have video of Hope jumping up and down like a school girl after Purdue scored on the opening drive? He is just so embarrassing. How do Purdue fans put up with him?
Things I hate in the B1G:
1. Mark Dantonio
2. Danny Hope
3. Danny Hope's moustache
4. Ohio
5. Tom

Gordon Gee (AKA Orville Redembacher) is a clear number 1 for me.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
Watching the highlights, it sounded like it got pretty loud in there early in the game when Purdue was moving the ball. Glad to hear that crowd noise is making big house a tougher place to play.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:25 PM ^
That's impossible...the student section was late!

What's the matter with kids today?

... the Alumni didn't keep the wave going. I guess they were cheering too much. /s
October 31st, 2011 at 8:00 AM ^
I think this is the first time I have ever heard of an opposing team saying Michigan Stadium was too loud. That's awesome.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
This conflicts with earlier reports that the student section sucks almost as much as the piped in music. Somebody is fucking with me, just need to figure out who.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
but but the students must suck, some random guy on a message board thought his student sections were way better.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
I thought that thread was hilarious. The students are definitely not the reason people think the Big House is quiet.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^
Is that Section 1 (NTS1) is making all the noise, while the students continue to suck.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
was like being in church at times. They stepped it up at times though.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:59 PM ^
I was in section 3 and it felt like a funeral. The only time you could stand up was when the play was on our side of the field. It also didn't help that I was in the first few rows above the handicapped/concourse level which means that since you're separated from the fans below, you don't necessarily "need" to stand up when everyone else does to be able to see the plays. Rocket Man flew over while I was in the concourse since I arrived late, but,let me tell you -- that was one LOUD noise!
October 30th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
But oh well, +1 for the crowd then.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
loud in the South end zone.
October 31st, 2011 at 9:34 AM ^
there weren't all that many truly tense moments in the Purdue game. Our crowd is REALLY loud when the need arises. The ND game crowd blew me away! The new stadium additions have really made a difference, IMO.
October 31st, 2011 at 12:12 PM ^
to see an engineering student provide data to support the theory that the new boxes help the noise. Any takers?
October 31st, 2011 at 10:18 AM ^
The TV production filters it out, for obvious reasons
October 30th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
I don't remember them getting any false starts because of the noise. So then, the line was being overly hesitant because they couldn't hear the snap counts?
In any case, I love to hear this. The noise level was pretty mild I thought. The loudest I ever remember it was last year against Iowa when it looked like we were mounting a comeback, and earlier this year under the lights.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
the loudest I ever heard in over 30 years of my visits to the BH.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:58 PM ^
The press boxes made a huge impact, and I think the new scoreboards this year added to it even further.
Even during the Western Game, I couldn't hear the band at all during pregame, and I never remember crowd nosie being that loud.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
And it sucks.
However, it also had nothing to do with Purdue losing.
Hey coach: your team is not good. Your defense is ok, but that's it.
Have fun playing a pissed off Wisconsin next week, at Wisconsin. They're going to dismantle you.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
That's a pretty shitty excuse. They are going to have to deal with crowd noise pretty much anywhere they play.
October 31st, 2011 at 7:04 AM ^
at home.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
I'm pretty sure the noise didn't score touchdowns and play good defense. Actually, I think our defense has its debut nickname. "The Noise"
October 30th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
let me introduce you to the crowd who intimidated you
October 30th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
Didn't stop them from getting our line to jump offsides multiple times on tricky snap counts.
Hope is a second-rate coach at a mid-tier program looking for excuses for why his team consistently underperforms.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
In the stadium, all game long. Danny's first time with boxes done, maybe that helps vs previous games.
October 30th, 2011 at 10:55 PM ^
I blame his mustache.

October 30th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
That's a pretty weak excuse. I'd be embarrassed if a Michigan coach ever used that as an excuse for getting dominated by the other team's D.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
"We didn't practice because I thought 'at Rice' meant we were paying uncle ben a visit."
October 30th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^
Hope's just mad because he had another player all lined up to shake our coach's hand if Purdue won the game.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
Believe it or not, out of all the games I've been to this season (couldn't make UTL), this game was the loudest I've heard my section get (section 6, row 11).
October 30th, 2011 at 11:13 PM ^
I am in sect 6 row 15. It was loud this Saturday.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:22 PM ^
I don't know. I'm in sect. 6 row 26 and I wouldn't even say it was loud Saturday, which makes it even funnier that Hope said that.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
yea yea yea...very good excuse! Next time tell your players to get used to it.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:02 PM ^
So to answer the question in the other thread... nothing is wrong with the students then. We may be showing up late, but according to Coach Hope, we still have an impact on the game.
October 30th, 2011 at 11:25 PM ^
Students should never miss arrive at the stadium after kick-off period
October 30th, 2011 at 11:48 PM ^
I don't miss kick-off, but as long as we have noon games and pre-games, I can tell that students missing the kick-off is going to keep happening for games. The small ones in particular. Sorry.
