If college football teams…

If college football teams worked like the “free market” then we would be able to sign players to contracts that exchange money for exclusive access to their services. The players and universities would collectively bargain to determine what types of contracts and transfer situations are maximally beneficial to both parties.

The NCAA has weird regulations that create a black market. What has made matters worse is that the NCAA has such weak enforcement of those regulations that the resulting system is one in which individual decisions of self interest (players looking for the most NIL, schools not wanting to share TV money with players) results in a crony market that leaves everyone worse off. This is not a “free market.”

How is failing defined? For example, are we considering Chad Henne a success or failure?

The whole point of…

The whole point of investments is to grow your money faster than the rate of inflation.

That’s still set for life.

That’s still set for life.

Except the Bears. They’re…

Except the Bears. They’re continuing on the same path they were on with Fields. I expect Williams to constantly get sacked and spend most of his time on the field running for his life.

I hope they take him because…

I hope they take him because I don't want the Jets to take him. I can stomach the Falcons. I don't want to root for the Jets.

I think they made a big…

I think they made a big mistake. Maye is in that mold of ACC QB who is well rounded but not spectacular enough to really excel in the NFL. Reminds me of Daniel Jones and Mitch Trubisky. They check a lot of QB-prototype boxes but they don't have 'it.'

Even though New England is down right now, I was hoping they would have selected McCarthy. They could have sat him for a year while they tanked so they could really load up in next year's draft. The Brady years have made me fond of New England. I spent twenty years rooting for that team.

Minnesota has a lot of…

Minnesota has a lot of people of Scandinavian descent. Would you have a similar complaint about a team in Jersey called the “Romans?”

Slavery, raiding, and all sorts of other cruelties were just part of human civilization back then. The “Vikings” were not unique in this regard.

I would say that what made American slavery particularly egregious is that it continued and was practiced by the same peope who crafted The Declaration of Independence, the U. S. Constitution, and the systems of representative government and courts that accompanied it.

Many of the infamous “bloodthirsty” Vikings settled in England and Ireland and became farmers. Their marauding lifestyle was more of a necessity because Scandinavia is a poor place to grow crops.

Five way tie:2021 OSU2022…

Five way tie:

  1. 2021 OSU
  2. 2022 OSU
  3. 2023 OSU
  4. Alabama
  5. Washington

Each of those wins brought me to the pinnacle of sports euphoria, so I can’t split hairs by ranking them.

Aside from those, one of my favorite wins was when we shut out Rutgers like 78-0 after their fans became weirdly uppity and they decided to make the game a big recruiting event. It was just hilarious.

All the wins against PSU were also great, especially when we made them look silly.

And beating the crap out of Notre Dame.

Who knows? I think he could…

Who knows? I think he could be a very successful QB, but I also think that largely depends on where he ends up.

Would Patrick Mahommes have been Patrick Mahommes without Andy Reid?

I care a lot less about how high J.J. is selected than where he goes. So much of a QB’s potential depends on what’s around them—players, coaches, GM, and more. I just hope he goes to a place that can maximize his potential.

Ryan Day rarely plays…

Ryan Day rarely plays backups, even when games are well in hand. We would start putting in backups once we had a two score lead.

He plays to game the stat sheets, so I don’t put much stock into them.

It definitely a problem. I…

It definitely a problem. I discovered the source of his hair dye and it can get messy:

Cleveland has actually…

Cleveland has actually greatly improved over the last 10-15 years. The downtown is pretty nice now.

Yeah, I don’t know how Ryan…

Yeah, I don’t know how Ryan Day is considered #1 in the B1G when he has always had the most talent. What Schiano has done with Rutgers is much more impressive than what Day has done with OSU. What David Braun did with Northwestern last year was extremely impressive, yet he’s near the bottom of the list.

It would be salt on the…

It would be salt on the wound of the poor QB he just squished.

If he thought he could be…

If he thought he could be successful at either school, he probably considered other factors. For example, Louisville is a dump and Ann Arbor is a great place to live.

Also, he’ll probably be given more leeway at Michigan to get things rolling. Louisville probably provides much less job security.

The guy truly marches to the beat of his own drum, for good or bad.

I think this is being overstated a bit. Harbaugh is very Catholic and that shows in his politics. Catholic priorities just happen to be split between the parties. I’ve known a lot of Catholics who are very similar to Harbaugh politically.

This is the type of content…

This is the type of content that was written quickly without much concern for accuracy. Read A.J. Barner's report. They criticize his ability as a receiver and ability to block if not in-line. Must be watching the Indiana tape (or mostly going by career stats).

I thought Barner was a fantastic receiver and one of the best blockers we've ever had. He could have a great NFL career, especially if he ends up on the Chargers.

In 2020 COVID wrecked us…

In 2020 COVID wrecked us. Regardless, Jim still had to practically clean house and rebuild the staff.

Juwan just doesn’t have any excuses like that. If his teams were mediocre I would buy the transfer excuses and the health excuses and whatnot. They are not mediocre, they are terrible despite having some real physical talent on the squad.

His teams consistently play below their talent level and it has just gotten worse every year. He’s not good at developing players.

Aren’t most NFL coaches…

Aren’t most NFL coaches undefeated against Chip Kelly?

Don’t forget about Aaron…

Don’t forget about Aaron Rodgers.

Everyone here thought Minter…

Everyone here thought Minter would be a clear step down from Macdonald. Think about that.

It might not be Final Four…

It might not be Final Four talent, but they’re talented enough to have a winning record.

We are being mocked on rival…

We are being mocked on rival message boards.  We look pathetic.

Oh no! How will I enjoy Michigan being defending national champions when rivals are mocking us because all our coaches are so good that they keep getting promoted?

That’s like a company being upset because they’re at full production and are sold out of inventory because they can’t meet demand

Our problems are the result of success. Our rivals’ problems are the result of failure. One rival, in particular, faces the prospect of the entire staff getting fired if they lose a certain game next year. Have fun dealing with that pressure.

Your endeavor of negativity?

Your endeavor of negativity?

The difference is pro…

The difference is pro players get paid from ticket sales and tv revenue.

We’re at the point where things will remain broken until they get a cut of that and a union negotiates wages.

This will only work if the B1G and SEC leave the NCAA behind.

Inducements. What a nasty…

Inducements. What a nasty little word to describe paying market value for full grown adults putting their bodies on the line.

“Market value” doesn’t work in sports because then the Cowboys would win the Super Bowl every year. That’s why there are salary caps and roster limitations.

The problem is that in college they have decided to pretend pay to play doesn’t exist so it works as a weird black market.

I don't know whether…

I don't know whether recruiting falling off a cliff can be attributed to NIL or not, but we have definitely lost to teams this year with less NIL available than us.

Furthermore, a lot of people have pointed out how the football NIL has been much more successful than the basketball NIL. There's a good reason for this: football NIL is a good investment, basketball NIL is not. We've seen Juwan get highly rated players only for them to look like ass, not make the tournament, and only stick around for one year. One of them was his son!

Whether the NIL is coming from companies actually wishing to promote their brand or just from boosters who want to see wins, Juwan's player's are a bad investment. That's on Juwan.

I could see us doing quite…

I could see us doing quite well with Orji as our QB. I think the era or the QB run stalled out because QB run teams lacked in their diversity of run plays and blocking schemes. That’s not an issue with us.

Are you unfamiliar with Jay…

Are you unfamiliar with Jay's last name? You think a Harbaugh would put in less that 110%?

I think I fall solidly in…

I think I fall solidly in between but I do not have anxiety about any of the things you listed. It's not because we won a championship, but because we're defending national champions. I also believe that Sherrone Moore had a lot to do with that and I'm optimistic about recruiting considering our national championship and the expectation of stability at head coach.

I'm middle aged and in my lifetime we have won just as many championships as Ohio State, despite their vastly superior roster for the majority of my life, 7 years of terrible coaches at Michigan, the COVID year, and the late Carr years when we were behind strategically. All things considering, things have worked out pretty well for Michigan recently.

I refuse to start prognosticating about the future until Sherrone has his staff put together, and I don't think that it's a crisis that he hasn't figured it out in a week.

Livers was a significantly…

Livers was a significantly better and more fluid athlete

Look at some of his early playing time. He developed into that over the course of his time at Michigan. That’s why Beilein focused so much on fundamentals.

Maybe Williams just doesn’t have it, but I found the progess Livers made surprising at the time. I see Williams as indicative of the state of the program. Guys are who they are when they get here. There’s no growth, no development happening. And it’s really unfortunate because we’ll never know how good guys like Williams could have been.

If Juwan wasn't who he is I…

If Juwan wasn't who he is I would have wanted him fired last year. While it's starting to look like his departure is inevitable, part of me doesn't want it to happen just because of everything he has meant to the program and the hard work he put in to get to this place.

I'm fine with him not being another Harbaugh, but it'll be really disappointing if he becomes our Scott Frost.

Terrance Williams could have…

Terrance Williams could have been awesome on a Beilein team. About the same build as Isaiah Livers and they both required a fair amount of development to be strong contributors. But Livers got that development and was surrounded by players who complemented his strengths.

Personally, I'm hoping we…

Personally, I'm hoping we promote Clink as long as he'll continue to run the existing system. Ryan Day hasn't been able to figure it out despite having all the talent to do so. Until the Buckeyes are able to put points up on us I don't want to see a change.

Yeah, all this winning we…

Yeah, all this winning we have been doing sucks. We need to emulate the success of Texas A&M and Miami.

Yeah, this totally just…

Yeah, this totally just sounds like Warde trying to answer the question and say nothing at the same time. His answer was pretty much, "We're not going to break any rules." If you plan on breaking rules, that's still going to be your response.

I get that people are unhappy about some of Warde's moves, but at this point it seems like people are looking for any little thing to attack him over.

I never closely watched any…

I never closely watched any of Borges' teams at his other stops, but I find it hard to judge his time at Michigan. He was hamstrung by an AD an head coach who cared more about POWER than tailoring the offense to the personnel and it's clear that the offensive position coaches—especially at OL—were subpar.

I suspect if you gave Borges the OC title now—with these players and this staff—we would have a completely different opinion of him. Remember, we replaced Borges with 'Bama's guy and he did even worse. One of the awesome parts about football is that no one person can propel a team to success ("No man is more important that the team"), you have to have a complete team of winners. But it also means that talent can go unappreciated when surrounded by mediocrity.

I feed mine whatever rotting…

I feed mine whatever rotting scraps are leftover in the fridge and their eggs taste just the same as yours.

I’m not as enthusiastic…

I’m not as enthusiastic about Moorehead as many here are. He had a couple of good years at Penn State but he did not look particularly inspiring as Mississippi State or Oregon.

If you look at what…

If you look at what Macdonald is doing with the Ravens, I'd say there's little if any discernible difference between him and Minter. They're both fantastic.

Exactly, if Sherrone is on…

Exactly, if Sherrone is on third base, he may not have hit a triple, but he did hit a single and then one of his teammates hit a single that allowed him to run to third. He got here through a combination of talent, hard work, and teamwork.

Or something like that. I don't really watch baseball so my terminology may be off here.

I like the idea of using 2…

I like the idea of using 2 RB sets, but I would much prefer our diverse array of run plays and blocking schemes with more QB runs. I think we should use Alex Orji like Tim Tebow and play with the jumbo sets a whole bunch.

J.J. couldn't do that because he was too slight. Orji is a tank and we can use him like Tebow. I would say Lamar Jackson, but I don't know how fast Orji really is. If he's fast we should just run the Raven's offense with more QB runs/options.

That's the most shameful…

That's the most shameful thing a Midwesterner could say. I'll never understand people who have lived here their entire life and still have no appreciation for the seasons.

The only thing I don't like about the Midwest (weather-wise) is that global warming is ruining our winters and we don't get enough snow or sub 20 degree temperatures.

You must be young.
