The good news is that I'm getting a lot of work done around the house without the distraction of Michigan basketball. Bad news? I miss it. Michigan basketball wasn't a thing when I was in school (98-02). It was fun watching Beilein make the program relevant. Sucks watching Howard fail, but he's the head coach, it's his program and his record.
I completely agree that the NCAA exists for the benefit of the member institutions (or at least some of them). It is there to keep the legislators and government regulators at bay and to take the arrows when controversy arises. And as you point out, to do the absolute bare minimum when it comes to actual enforcement of the "rules."

However, I'm not convinced that its survival is completely within the control of the member institutions it protects. Listening to the MGoPodcast from 2/18, what if the NCAA loses lawsuits with multi-billion dollar damages? Seems like legal action could potentially threaten its existence.
Wut? Make enemies with the Harbaugh family? They helped Jim rebuild Michigan football. You can make Minter a great offer, but if he wants to go to the NFL so be it. He’s earned it. Michigan should keep the Harbaugh tree in good graces. They can help Moore or whoever is the next HC plug holes in the staff.
Colorado gets it. Yes, it is possible that he loves coaching at Michigan and yet wants another shot at a Super Bowl. But he can't do both. It's not like he's been interviewing for other college coaching jobs over the past couple years. He has a clear interest in exploring NFL opportunities and he's a proven NFL coach. What remains to be seen is if he can come to terms with an NFL team.
Michigan can't offer him the opportunity to win an NFL Super Bowl. It's simply not possible. How many college coaches have "lost a Super Bowl to my brother" on their resume? This is what the third offseason he's interviewed with the NFL? Has little to do with Michigan IMHO. He can both (a) love Michigan and want to continue coaching here and (b) want another shot at building a Super Bowl contender. However, they're mutually exclusive. And he also needs to find an NFL franchise that will agree to his terms (and I'm assuming the sticking points will be around autonomy and control, not money- those factors at least weigh in Michigan's favor).
Alternatively, he may just be frustrated with college football. Could be bullshit NCAA investigations, unregulated NIL, etc.
Regardless, these professional desires and structural issues are largely outside of Michigan's control.
Loophole like a low level staffer paying third parties for in-person scouting? Then the coaches should be suspended and the NCAA should immediately begin a full investigation. And the NCAA should be leaking details to the press in violation of their own rules.

Finally was able to complete today clearing snow and boxing holiday decorations in garage before the temperature drops. I enjoyed every minute of the last segment. Emotions were real, raw. You don’t always get that in today’s world where social media presents a varnished view of life. The blog is a unique community with unique content and writing. I’m not a Warde hater. I’ve previously defended on these here boards the 2020 contract modification. The trajectory of the program at that point in time wasn’t great (Covid aside) and an incentive based contract placated the “fire Harbaugh” crowd IMO. It was a “second chance” overture that Harbaugh deserved. Let’s be honest- when he was originally hired we expected some OSU wins and championship appearances before 2020.
Warde’s career, not just his job, hinges on success of the football program. Which is why I thought the 2020 modification was savvy. But…if we believe the “Warde isn’t bending the knee” takes from insiders (which takes I question post sign gate), what is he thinking? This is the best job he will get. It’s not like you fail as Michigan AD and move on to Alabama. This isn’t corporate America, there’s a limited number of high profile AD jobs. If he isn’t 100% supporting a Harbaugh extension then he must be flexing some self destructive ego thing. Very strange.
