I admit my own bias, of…

I admit my own bias, of course.

But I am inclined to agree that this is the most special National Championship team in, AT LEAST, recent memory. And that distinction may very well grow in coming years, when college football will increasingly appear as a NFL-lite of easy come, easy go mercenaries in which the team with the most money and talent wins the battle on the chalkboard first, and then we drag through an aimless season of watching a few elite programs hustle and bustle for prizes that continue to mean less and less.

In many ways, our win against OSU felt like the last true big ten game - we’ve turned into a coast to coast super league clumsily thrown together for no other reason than filling the pockets of w few already-rich media execs. How fun is it going to be when we play OSU back to back, with one team already assured it’s place win or lose, so they rest their starters?

Same goes for the title. The conferences no longer exist in any meaningful way. 12 team playoff is something I hate for reasons I won’t get into here, and I know others disagree with. And now it’s all NFL-lite with no salary cap, and things like a team that grows together over 4 years just won’t exist.

Sad to see for the sport, but damn am I glad to see us win what feels like the last title of a time where college football is even somewhat recognizable.

You, sir, are a noble and…

You, sir, are a noble and dignified gentlemans, and I shall extoll your virtue to countless denizens of the lesser element, in which we all reside from your lofted vantage. Bless you.

My god.

One article says…

My god.

One article says UM has not thrown for more than 200 yards since the ‘scandal’ broke… JJ threw for what, 280 and 330 against MSU and Purdue?

Also says UM was expected to win against Georiga in 2021 playoffs. And that UM hasn’t faced good corners or a good pass rush all year.

And the writing is horrible. I couldn’t make it any deeper.

So as many of you may know,…

So as many of you may know, that’s Spartan Bob in the photo.

I DJ at a number of college bars in East Lansing. Spartan Bob has made a habit of strolling up - in his usual outfit - to me and demanding the microphone so he can acapella sing the fight song. We used to tolerate it, but during the middle of a show with a few hundred 19 year olds salivating for another pitbull song, it doesn’t fly anymore. But it doesn’t stop him from bitching to me and acting super put out that I won’t let him hiJack my set.

Just weird overall.

We can only hope the viewing…

We can only hope the viewing numbers are so abysmal that the networks get a clear and resounding ‘fuck off’ with this bizarre and desperate campaign to further carve up and complicate viewing options. This is turning back into cable, except with 9 different stupid subscriptions to manage. So, so, so much easier to sail the high seas than to play this game.

Id like to just mention that…

Id like to just mention that the metric of success is often framed by the draft; that is, a player rates highly is a success if they are drafted in these analytical pieces.

However, it is important to remember - and this can often be more readily apparent in basketball - that there are some excellent *college* football players who do not translate to the NFL. While a 5 star who does not get drafted is seen as a failure through the lens of some discourse, some factor could preclude their effectiveness in the NFL, but also see them have productive college careers.

Again, this is often more apparent in basketball. Players like Xavier Simpson, MAAR, possibly Dug - in fact, I see fans hoping we attain *non* NBA caliber players so they stick around, with the idea that they can still be excellent college players. A more holistic assessment would take this into account when judging stars, but then again, stars are often seen as a measure of a players pro potential.

Rooks transferred out, sadly

Rooks transferred out, sadly

I understand this line of…

I understand this line of thinking, but it’s too little too Late with NIL.

We just had a player de commit to go to 5-7 Miami… why? Because they offered a nice big signing bonus.

17 year olds aren’t going to care who is winning or where the best degree is from when someone offers them a 500k check to sign their name, and the other school - Michigan, In this instance- requires that they be their best self and earn their NIL money for the most part.

I agree In theory, but NIL has nullified the idea largely. Sure, some recruits may be swayed, and teams with good NIL AND that win may have marginal advantages over less good teams with similar NIL earnings potential, but recruiting is going to be determined by tiers of who offers the biggest singing bonus and where players are told they will earn the most, by and large. I hope I’m wrong, but…

It’s not about the exact…

It’s not about the exact rankings, he is specifically  saying that there would be a debate and in theory this could be the matchups.

He put together a nice post that probably took some time and your first reaction is to point out that his projections are wrong?

The point of the post is proof of concept.

Apparently it’s been a…

Apparently it’s been a nagging one. Would explain why he hasn’t really had any stats and less play time.

it was said he could play through it or sit out for surgery. But that he wouldn’t likely use his redshirt and would go straight to draft. This and other clues suggest it’s All, according to the community. Regrettably the injury to an offensive starter is confirmed, however; That is is All is NOT confirmed, but that seems to be what the consensus is

It’s Josh Henke.

He said he…

It’s Josh Henshke.

He said he could not confirm the player name but he ruled out a few ; it’s not a QB or a running back and a few lineman have been ruled out. The community on the boards is saying the context clues point to it being All, and Josh suggested that those desperate for an answer can find it from those sleuthing about other sources. Apparently it’s around on Twitter and FB. (For whatever that’s worth)

I have an issue and…

I have an issue and unfortunately, even though college football began as a wholesome childhood passion, my issue has co-opted everything in my life and even dear CFB has become a trigger. So while I am trying to make progress, I imagine it difficult, as all my passions have become supplementary to use.

Its difficult when we hide it - I’m a recent graduate with two good jobs, but the Covid time did a number on me, and I’ve crippled my development as an individual and of course selfishness is the primary manifestation of addiction, so I dislike what I’ve become there. Yet people only see that I’ve become lesser of late, not knowing the affliction.

For anyone know the board who can share some tips on how to address maintains passions while fighting the good fight, I’d love to hear.

Well, we are certainly…

Well, we are certainly making them look weak. I think of the teams we have beaten, at least 3 are bowl bound. These are not joke teams; Western is a solid MAC team and beat Pittsburgh, which is one of their better wins in recent memory and frankly impressive. Washington has players on the team who have played for Pac-12 championships; they are a proud program with a lot of talent and some sure fire NFL picks. Wisconsin has attributes that make them difficult even in a down year; if their schedule was more evenly  spread out and not 3 top 10 opponents in the first four weeks, they could easily have been 3-1 or 4-0 heading into our game. I still think they’ll rip off a winning streak now that they essentially play Purdue and Northwestern for the next 8 weeks in a row - that’s another bowl team. And Rutgers is vastly Improved, we played an awful game, and we still won.
I think we’ve beaten decent competition, and just made them look bad through our dominance!

Wow. It must be so nice to…

Wow. It must be so nice to play Michigan.

Wisconsin has already won, in their minds. Michigan can dominate for 29:30 seconds and still somehow find a way to go into the lockerroom defeated. It’s just almost funny. It’s Lions-Esque. No team, and I mean NO team can fail like Michigan. What a disgrace. That’s the game folks, 23-13 Wisconsin.

This is really good stuff…

This is really good stuff. Really appreciate the emphasis on mental health; people are often mocked for caring so much about a game, but it’s not just a game for many of us. It’s a tradition and a lifestyle that links us to family, our past selves, etc…

My struggle is in thinking that in order to enjoy the highs - whenever they may come - I must have been there to suffer the lows.

Kind of like how a post recently stated that the depth of our suffering also increases our potential for joy.

Ive gotten trapped in the - likely errant - thinking that I must suffer with the team to enjoy the highest highs; that anything short would make me a fair weather fan.

And yet your post shares wisdom on why this line of thinking is erroneous.

Thanks for sharing. I think we can apply these wise words to many facets of this strange new world we’ve been thrust into.

Be well, MGo community.

Or pray none of the players…

Or pray none of the players get injured, period, good or not.

Brian,

It may seem hard…

Brian,

It may seem hard to believe, but you’ve made a difference in a lot of peoples lives. For many of us, this isn’t just football coverage. It’s community. It’s being understood, feeling safe.

2020 has been a dark time. And yet here we stand..

I will be thinking about you and wishing you well, Brian. As others have mentioned, we feel like we know you, through your writing.

And we know that you are a man of honor, deserving of peace, satisfaction, and harmony in all his affairs.

Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait for the next chapter.

Hoke was not a good head…

Hoke was not a good head coach, but imagine how much better this team would be if he was our D-Line coach or say co-DC? He would have us swimming in powerful D linemen; I often wish we would offer him whatever money he wanted to bring in a full two deep of NFL D-Linemen… the D Line recruiting disaster of 2017 likely wouldn’t have occurred (that’s where our depth is meant to be - they would all be Covid 5 year seniors).

I think it’s the distinction…

I think it’s the distinction between excellent and very good; our pass defense those years was excellent. Our run defense was very good.

Four foes in the top 13, we…

Four foes in the top 13, we’ve certainly got our work cut out for us. But if believe the rankings for our opponents, let’s go ahead and believe these -potentially -generous looking projections for our guys; two top 30 units with defense going back to top 10?

That would be a delight and give us a shot at a 2015 ish year, which would more than satisfy as long as beat MSU and compete against OSU.

I love the football content…

I love the football content on this blog. I personally think it’s the best out there, for any team.

But this right here^^?

This is why I’m deeply invested in this space, and revere the writers. Seth and Brian and all the rest are class acts, to say the least.

Thanks for being awesome, guys.

Thanks, I guess nobody saw…

I try to do the Lords Work here on this blog.

Yo hey man this was a great…

Yo hey man this was a great read, thanks a lot for putting this together. The potential yards stat is one I’ve been wanting to see for my whole life: it’s been on the tip of my tongue, so to speak, but to see it articulated as the limiting factor in what an offense could gain is cool.

Great post !

This is really, really good…

This is really, really good content.
Fascinating stuff OP; gives teeth to an intuition I think a lot of us fans have had. Also great work on your formula and such. I’m not a numbers guy so I’m extremely impressed by your work here.

It really does make one think - should schedules have more flexibility?

This year - with Covid and whatnot - has certainly proven that the way CFB schedules some 7-10 years in advance is not necessary, and perhaps detrimental.

Maybe adding flexibility and more short term scheduling could help the powers that be ensure that that best teams are playing schedules that align with their pedigree. Steps *do* need to be taken to cultivate parity in the sport; the model of 3-5 annual semi-pro teams vs. “the field” (i.e quite literally everyone else) is damaging the game, in my opinion. There’s just so little hope for 99% of the sport in to even sniff the playoff, let alone consistently compete at a high level. Anything that can give more teams a chance - even a small one - at feeling some realistic hope at competing for a championship should be done. I do think dynasties are good for the sport; every story needs a villain.

But the way we essentially have one small and exclusive pro-am league feasting on the ranks of actual college football teams is actively harming the sport. Can’t most of us agree - 2007 was the best year, precisely because it was not a year where we suffered the same tired dominance of results that were all chalk?

Thanks a lot for sharing - it’s posts like these and independent posters like you that makes this the best sports website and community on the web.

It is going to be impossible…

It is going to be impossible for them to face the groups of players in the PAC and the BIG in good faith, as if they ever could. But wow. On the heels of players requesting changes - many good, some seemingly misguided somewhat - for them to make a move like this? I don’t think the NCAA realizes that they are losing this, and they just can’t stop shoveling.

“Couldn't UM spend a million…

“Couldn't UM spend a million dollars to ensure player safety? The return on that million is enormous compared to a cancelling the season. Right?”

Yes, but the problem is that they need other teams to play. If UM is the only one taking this seriously, than there will be no season. Thus the need for the NCAA to step up.

I take it you think Haskins…

I take it you think Haskins would not be a good LS?

I have more faith in him than others, it would seem.

Shame.

Agreed. He’s my favorite RB…

Agreed. He’s my favorite RB. Just wondered if the coaches had considered it, and if they would do something like that if things got dicey. Haskins is the man at RB.

Thanks for the info, good to…

Thanks for the info, good to see all those talented names. Just couldn’t help but wonder with COVID potentially devastating entire positions, if the staff had considered Haskins first in line for a swap.

Yea, good points. I agree…

Yea, good points. I agree. He’s a known commodity on offense, and has been tailored for his role there. Love watching Haskins run. But I wondered if the LB unit gets wiped out by COVID or injuries, if the staff has had it even cross their mind for Haskins to be one of the first to fill in for back up duty, in case the freshmen couldn’t handle the workload.

Thanks for sharing.

I agree. I couldn’t help but…

I agree. I couldn’t help but wonder, though, in a season where COVID could wipe out entire units, if perhaps Haskins would be one of the first to fill in for back up duty, due to our depth (hopefully) at RB.

Thanks for sharing.

To all those who I have…

To all those who I have clearly so deeply offended and upset for my attempt to spark some conversation about the teams LB and RB depth, I apologize. I never said that Haskins should be moved to LB. I asked what the community felt about it. I guess I’ll uh keep such thoughts to myself next time. Best wishes and thanks to those who wanted to actually discuss it with me.

I do remember Turners…

I do remember Turners fumbles, but I’ve seen a few places that he was dogged by injuries as well, keeping him low in the order. If he can clean up the fumbles, I wonder if he can bring his game up to speed?
Thanks for sharing.

I should note for those…

I should note for those unfamiliar; Haskins was originally a LB. I assumed most would know but probably should have mentioned that, just in case. I’m not sure if was moved because he was ineffective, they liked him more at RB, we needed depth at RB, etc... maybe someone has some insight as to why he was swapped in the first place.

Thanks for the kind words,…

Thanks for the kind words, friend.

Hopefully, together, we can all get through this.

ive even considered extending my weekly series, but just fictionally, should the season be totally cancelled. Anything to soften the blow, I suppose..

Look online to find the…

Look online to find the temperature where decarboxlzation occurs. If the temp goes higher, the thc is destroyed. At the right temp, it is activated. This is the most important aspect, that it remains usable - the rest is about balancing the portion per serving, dosage, preference for what you want to eat, etc.
It is a vague question, could you specify a little more what you want to know/ are trying to do?

Ive been in the industry for a number of years so I can help you out. We can discuss this in an easier format too if you’d prefer.

Yea, exactly. I was really…

Yea, exactly. I was really impressed with the whole series, and as it is recent/ new/ also focused on the big ten, figured it was nice to be given a new round of solid data to gloss over whilst we wait and wring our hands about... everything, it seems. Overall, though, I’d say it’s comforting to see that Michigan is on the right side of the coveted ‘Blue Chip Ratio’. Teams with ‘’’less’’’ talent than us have won the championship - again, it seems to just be the lack of elite QB Play which is holding us back. If we had had a semi elite QB in 2016, for example? Man, that would have been a team for the ages. Hopefully Dylan or Joe can be that guy for the program. A lot to look forward to!

My guilt isn’t because I am simply white. It is that I feel that I cannot stop the endless, reckless hate that is racism, even with the advantages I have from being white. I’ve done a lot in the name of civil rights, but I will always feel a failure for not having seen water turn to wine by my accord, so to speak. Maybe I’m not well adjusted, or maybe I need to have a more realistic expectation. But it is impossible for me to be unencumbered by dark thoughts during this tragic time.

If we all do our best, it would be hard to complain. I’ve got a long way to go. I hope others will join me in this regard.

Agreed. Hopefully the…

Agreed. Hopefully the article conveys the necessity for action, and that simply being outraged is no longer sufficient. Thanks for sharing.

Tough but MSU played very…

Tough but MSU played very well. Michigan will find more consistency as the team gels. I’m confident we will get ‘em in Ann Arbor when Livers returns. Boys will bounce back.
Go Blue!

Regrettably it’s possible,…

Regrettably it’s possible, perhaps even likely. Bama is the best 10-2 team in some time. Tough match up for the boys. Hopefully we can pull through.

Or I just love CFB. These…

Or I just love CFB. These don’t take me that long.

Far too often I have heard…

Far too often I have heard CB biscuits disparaged compared to RL. I must stand for what I believe in.

Hey, thanks for the feedback…

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for sharing…

Thanks for sharing. Intereresting look. I remember when he was with Oklahoma state it was all run and gun.

Unfortunately Brando doesn’t…

Unfortunately Brando doesn’t seem too invested in the sports he covers. This is the guy that was saying Josh Martellus and Killik Hudson for an entire game back in 2017. It was the Minnesota game, so he had at least 15 Killik mentions and had plenty of time to fix it. He didn’t. Also went on a tangent about how ambry Thomas was a regular offensive ‘speedster’ and was a crucial cog on the offense. Guy just doesn’t seem to care. Nobody makes as many mistakes as he does.

Not sure why you got negged…

Not sure why you got negged. This is a thoughtful post and I appreciate the alternate look(per drive). Yea, the farther I get from the game, the less inclined I am to blame the coaches. Even still, not a banner day for our boys.

thanks for sharing.

Thanks for soldiering…

Thanks for soldiering through to share this. Always enjoy reading this. I know we’re all pissed and disappointed. But as you said - shit happens. We got some nice wins this year. Let’s try To remember the good times and cross our fingers for more.
