Some Positive News. Crystal Balls coming in for 4* Safety Isaac Thompson

Submitted by 285matt on November 15th, 2020 at 9:03 PM

Amid all of the negative energy surrounding UM football, we've picked up some crystal balls for 4* Isaac Thompson out of Missouri. Top 247 Safety scheduled to commit early December.

Not sure if he attended the Wisconsin game.

I'll give the coaching staff some credit if it can keep this class together and keep future recruiting classes going amid all the losing plus ensuing negativity.

Hi there! I did HS in St. Louis!

Think I mentioned this in another thread (about back-up choices for college): if not for a scholarship to Michigan, I almost certainly would've gone to Washington University in St. Louis.

I don't find it so bad. But I've been to over 30 countries and lived in over 10 different cities so far; hence, metropolitan life has lost some of its charm. (I'm in my mid 30s.)

But yes, Missouri has a lot of growing problems but I'm sure the same can be said for many places.

I rather enjoy St Louis, having visited it many times for a certain gov't agency's business.  You may recognize the new facility going up in downtown?  Anyway, it's a nice place to visit, and a great sports town that backs their teams quite well.  Except, maybe for the various football teams...  (Still too soon?)

Also, Domani Jackson loved his visit despite the loss. Wiltfong and Greg Biggins 247's lead West expert are talking crystal balls for Michigan. Recruiting going really well despite the season is huge. Not sure if it will keep up, but if recruits aren't scared off especially a CB that is a top 5 player in the country that is encouraging.

Edit. Wiltfong uses his for the current leader and has it on Ohio State at the moment. So no commitment is imminent, but still interesting if they pulled ahead of Ohio State considering what's going on

Especially when people are talking about his mental health or being on drugs for no reason. "On drugs" is exactly the kind of generic thing that smells like BS. It'd be one thing if someone said he had some vascular problems so he's on Medication ____ and that can have side effects on one's energy or something. Instead it's just, "There are rumors he's on drugs".

The coaching has already failed.  The team has already failed.  The program has already failed and continues in a state of free fall.  Nobody wants that, but it has already happened.

I agree that people actively hoping for losses is disgusting, but I understand the thought.  So far as we can tell, the AD (and above) is content with the current state of the program - content with failure.  It feels like only a very public, very disgusting finish might be the only thing that leads to some attempt at resolving the current state of failure.

This program, under it's current 'leadership', is not coming back from the grave.  It doesn't matter which assistants get the ax or which deck chairs get rearranged, we've seen that dance before.  Four times, actually - four OC's where the offense has gone away from whatever the OC had done his entire life, and regressed into the same thing Harbaugh has done his entire life.  And yet still, some people think this time will be different...

Fool me once, shame on me.  Fool me twice, shame on you.  Fool me thrice, we're fucking idiots.  Fool me four times, JFC...

I think we got plenty of safeties in the last cycle (Morant, Paige, Moten).  Can we get a 4-star CB that can run or maybe a DT that doesn't allow a QB sneak to get 4 yards?  Seriously, what's the problem with Jeter, Hinton, & Smith?  How can we have 3 4/5-star DTs and none of them have yet to perform as a capable DT?  FWIW Solomon is starting for Tennessee :/

I've came off the ledge just a smidge and I'm willing to give Harbaugh the chance to at least finish his contract(not that it matters what i think) as long as he does these things:

1) Replace Don Brown. Non negotiable.

2) Get rid of the rest of the defensive staff and get in good recruiters as positional coaches, especially corner and dt.  Non negotiable

3) 100% give control of the entire offense to Gattis, including the playbook itself. Non negotiable

4) Get a new recruiting coordinator.

5) Move Jay back to special teams coach and hire in a runningbacks coach. Hell, Jay wasn't bad at tight ends coach if i remember correctly.

Our TE coach, Sherrone Moore, is our best recruiter.  But, I would like to see the defensive staff overturned and let Gattis have control.  We probably need a new QB coach too.

I didnt say replace Sherrone even though our tight ends aren't exactly tearing it up.

I know, but you alluded to it when said to move Jay and followed up with he wasn't bad at tight end's coach.  That sounds like a recommendation to replace Moore unless you're suggesting moving Moore, but retaining him, which you didn't say.  Either way, I think retaining our best recruiter is important.

I'm good with keeping Moore as a recruiter, but get him the hell away from the TEs - they suck!  And get Nua away from the DT's, for that matter...

As for Jay, he is also a great recruiter and has performed well as a position coach for TE's and RB's.  Look at it objectively - not through the biased lens of whatever 'nepotism' BS you believe.  Yes, even as RB coach he's been okay.  Not sure about ST's just yet, this is his first year alone with that responsibility.  I'm happy with what he's done on the staff, in every position he's been in.  And with that, I'll also say that the time is coming soon for him to branch out of the Harbaugh family and work for someone else.  That's the only way he's really going to improve his reputation as a coach from this point on.  Nepotism may have helped him get hired, but he's earned his keep - and he's earned a good shot on the sidelines with someone outside the family.

Coach needs to bring back Albert Karchnia, even if it means demoting Dudek, or splitting the role.  AK has gotten lethal on the trail, and works as hard as anyone in the business.  You could argue CMU is the best team in Michigan.  Bring back A.K. A.S.A.P.. His fingers were all over the 2015 class, before he took the chips job. PS: He's from Metro Detroit (West Bloomfield specifically) and can improve our relationship in Michigan.

Cheers

Since OV’s aren’t permitted, I don’t think they were allowed to go to the stadium or meet with our coaches. That explains why it was a good visit. Maybe we should keep all of the recruits away from the program. They can meet Harbaugh and his “quirkiness” once they sign their letter of intent.
