Mat Ishbia Considering Bid for Commanders
https://www.mlive.com/spartans/2022/11/mat-ishbia-considering-bid-to-buy-washington-commanders.html
Could be interesting. You would have to imagine, given that the Commanders will likely sell for more than his total personal wealth, that even with a variety of financial backers and bank financing, this will minimize his ability to drop another $100 million on a college football coach...
November 4th, 2022 at 4:00 PM ^
Also odd because the future of loan originating business like UWMC and Rocket doesn't appear to be very bright...

i got a handful of RKT stock for free a while back on WeBull and it’s value has halved since then. should have sold it the next day and moved on.
November 4th, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
You could sell it now of course. NPV and all.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Would anyone back him? This is a really bad idea.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
This would take his attention and resources away from MSU.
Maybe he is disgusted with the whole investment he made.
November 4th, 2022 at 9:10 PM ^
Am I missing something? Stephen Ross manages to support an NFL team and a school and I'm sure much more.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:00 AM ^
Ross is worth 11 Billion and payed 1 Billion for the Dolphins
Ishbia is worth 4 Billion and the Commanders are valued 5.5 Billion.
November 5th, 2022 at 8:58 AM ^
Then he probably can't really afford the Commanders, especially since Commanders are going to go for more than 5.5. I know he wouldn't be buying 100% but still.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
great! take his interest from MSU to the NFL. go for it Matty!
November 4th, 2022 at 4:39 PM ^
And take Mel Tucker with you and make him Washington's head coach.
Their slogan could be: "Washington - first in war, first in peace, last in the NFL".
November 4th, 2022 at 5:00 PM ^
I'd be ok with Mel staying at Staee awhile longer. I like the direction the program is heading.
November 4th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
Two more years of Mel and they might be lost for a decade.
November 4th, 2022 at 6:24 PM ^
Here’s hoping you’re right!
I still am concerned that he might be better than he’s showed yet but if the roster falls further apart it’s hard to see him doing much even if he is good.
wrote this post wearing my new “Paul is Home” t shirt complete with the score and the date. Got some Spartan friends coming over later.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
Not sure what else there is that will go up in value more than an NFL team. Even if the clubs are valued at 6 billion, someone will pay over 7-8 billion for them. 5 years from now, I wouldn't be shocked to see one sell for over 10 billion.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
Do the Commanders have a single tunnel?
November 4th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
If the mortgage business keeps tanking, United Shore will be asking for a loan from Tuck.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
Everyone wants to buy an NFL team if they can. Ishbia was one of many to try to bid on the Broncos. I think it is highly unlikely he will be able to pull off the Washington Commanders, arguably an even more valuable franchise. Rumor is even Jeff Bezos and Jay-Z are considering a joint bid.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
I heard Jay Z was considering a bid. When I heard that and imagined Jay Z owning the team I thought, "Welp, now you got 100 problems, my friend."
November 4th, 2022 at 4:52 PM ^
Bezos is the logical one. DC is already his primary residence, and he owns a prominent local business. Not to mention his chairmanship of an employer with a large and growing presence in the region.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
I think all the ex-Presidents should get together to buy the Commanders. That'd be a pretty comical bit
November 4th, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
Also, if they're going to stay the Commanders they should drop the Washington part and just be the DC Commanders
November 4th, 2022 at 5:10 PM ^
40% of that group has already failed at owning a pro sports team.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:13 PM ^
I too wish to use inherited wealth to buy an NFL team.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:23 PM ^
I read your comment in Ron Swanson's voice and it fit perfectly.
November 4th, 2022 at 7:44 PM ^
It works with Ron Burgundy’s voice too.
November 4th, 2022 at 7:54 PM ^
The old adage in family business is roughly “the first generation makes it, the second generation maintains/builds it, the third generation squanders it”. It seems like Matt is trying to be both the second and third generation. Broad school of business for you.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
Change the name.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:44 PM ^
What's wrong with Washington?
November 4th, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
Seriously?
November 4th, 2022 at 5:53 PM ^
The Potato Skins.
November 4th, 2022 at 6:02 PM ^
I'd like to see a native American tribe buy the team and change the name back.
November 4th, 2022 at 9:37 PM ^
They should have kept it Washington Redskins and just changed their mascot/logo to a potato.
November 4th, 2022 at 4:27 PM ^
His company is on the verge of being a penny stock. If only Jordan Belfort was still around to pump & dump it
November 4th, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
PSA: Belfort has an active Twitter account and remains adjacent to pump-and-dump activities, albeit not as the actor behind them.
November 4th, 2022 at 7:43 PM ^
Or Christopher Moltisanti. Wobisco!
November 4th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
Well, so far he does have practice at throwing good money away...
November 4th, 2022 at 5:17 PM ^
That guy is a walking advertisement for the estate tax.
November 4th, 2022 at 5:20 PM ^
I can’t stand that dude.
November 5th, 2022 at 8:19 AM ^
Sure, but shout out to my boy Dave Ishbia. He’s a maize and blue.
November 4th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
On 12/31/2020, UWM stock price stood at $13.13.
Today, the share price is $3.71, a decline of over 70%.
Doesn't seem like a propitious time for Matt Ishbia to sink even more of his money into football than he has already.
November 4th, 2022 at 10:38 PM ^
As long as someone will give him a loan backed by his shares, he could afford it.
November 4th, 2022 at 5:48 PM ^
I'm in favor of anything that would mean Ishbia would be spending less money on that two-bit program up the road
November 4th, 2022 at 6:06 PM ^
I'm buying the Lions Sunday morning after the powerball drawing.
November 4th, 2022 at 6:22 PM ^
Dude wants the worst football money can buy
November 4th, 2022 at 7:02 PM ^
^ UWSBlue already has plans for that it appears
November 4th, 2022 at 9:33 PM ^
So many conflicts of interest for me….lifelong Redskins fan who admittedly hates that they changed their name, doesn’t feel right. The Washington Redskin Potatoes would have been great as someone here once mentioned. I’m actually somewhat serious, at least we could still call them the Skins’.
I might completely relinquish my fandom if a Sparty owns my NFL team (Dan Snyder has almost done this for me completely though, the lowest of lowlifes)
Also, I make my mortgage payments to this guy, which is just an extra dagger in the side.
Harbaugh needs to bludgeon these guys for the next decade
…..random stream of consciousness over….
November 4th, 2022 at 10:36 PM ^
This is just a move for press. There is only one person who is buying the Commanders and he likes making rockets shaped like dicks and likes selling books.
