Bode Wilde: Nevermind
Now here's some good old timey Michigan Hockey Summer for you:
2018 draft eligible U.S. defenceman Bode Wilde is not going to the University of Michigan next season. He will get drafted and see what his non-school options are. Saginaw owns his OHL rights.

Wilde's expected to go at the tail end of the first round. Quite a comedown from "I'll go to Harvard" to "ain't come to play school."
The good news, such as it is, is that Michigan already has four established defenders in Joe Cecconi, Nick Boka, Luke Martin, and Quinn Hughes and only needs to find a third pairing from Griffin Luce and their three incoming freshmen; if they are so inclined they could also add one of the three 2019-20 commits, all of whom could come in this year.
Well, that sucks. Good luck to him, I guess. Maybe my hometown team, Saginaw, will be good again? I mean, looks like they'll have both Wilde and Perfetti next season.

Saginaw blackhawks had Ed Belfour. I remember going to watch him as a kid.
Before Belfour they had Darren Pang. Those were some wild and violent games back then.

One thing different from old times: Mel recruits in such a way that anticipates departures. He has a ton of guys ready in the pipeline. I doubt this is one he anticipated, but he knows guys are going to leave.
Well, we all said we wanted Michigan hockey to get back to the way it was during the heyday, and losing highly-regarded players in the middle of the summer certainly feels like old times.
Ugh. He seemed like the solid bet to fortify the team if the Hughes brothers weren't there. Now we're basically holding out for the Hughes brothers to keep us at the level we were at last season (!) or it might be tough going.
Just read in an article in (on?) The Athletic about tomorrow night's NHL draft that the reason Bode isn't coming to UM is because he wasn't admitted to the school. Somehow that makes me feel better...
