Dan Campbell is legend!
September 8th, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
The fake punt took some sack. 7 points to show for it. Likely lose without it.
September 8th, 2023 at 4:07 AM ^
He's set the tone for the whole year... And showed the league the end of last year was no fluke.
September 8th, 2023 at 5:56 AM ^
Can’t say I’ve ever seen one inside the 20 in all my years of watching football. Most excited I’ve been about the Lions in 30 years.
September 8th, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
I'll always remember this one from BYU against Boise back in like 2016. Fourth and 19 from their own 5 went about as well as you could have imagined.

September 8th, 2023 at 10:07 AM ^
Yeah, I mean that fake punk and then a pick 6 made this game. The offense and defense were still "good" but the game swung on two high variation plays.
September 8th, 2023 at 12:46 PM ^
Nah. I thought the Lions were the better team on both sides of the ball. The Chiefs were only capable of winning because they had the best player in the stadium.
September 8th, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
Well, to be fair - it was like a fourth and two. The variance came from where they were on the field - not the play itself.
You also neglect to mention the Lions fumbling when they were driving - also took points off the board for them.
I think, overall, it was a pretty evenly matched game with one or two more plays that swung in the Lions' favor. You play that game ten times, and one team probably wins 5 or maybe 6 times, but not more. That in and of itself is a big step forward for the Lions....
September 8th, 2023 at 1:08 PM ^
it also made the decision to punt from the plus 40 on 4th and 3 while tied in the 3rd even more baffling. I thought for sure we were going for it.

Dan Campbell will surpass the immortal Wayne Fontes.
September 8th, 2023 at 8:27 AM ^
Cocaine Wayne!!!
September 8th, 2023 at 10:37 AM ^
He once tested positive for traces of blood in his Cocaine system.
September 8th, 2023 at 11:17 AM ^
Say what you will about the man, but Wayne Fontes was 3-1 against the Cowboys.
September 8th, 2023 at 11:34 AM ^
Wayne Fontes is the Lions version of Vince Lombardi in the Super Bowl era.
September 8th, 2023 at 11:52 AM ^
but will he fire up a stogie on the sidelines?
September 8th, 2023 at 6:42 AM ^
I’m stunned that we can even consider that the Lions coach outcoached Andy Reid.
September 8th, 2023 at 11:53 AM ^
This right here is being understated. The narrative seems to be that of the Lions fighting the notion that this win isn’t as legit because of Kelce being out.
Andy Reid is one of the best coaches in NFL history and is only overshadowed because he’s coached in the era of Bill Belicheck. The bro is known for building his teams on mobile QBs and mostly no name backs, tight ends and receivers.
Campbell showed some serious stones against one of the best to ever coach the game, along with the best QB in the league and an offensive line who cheating all game.
September 8th, 2023 at 12:24 PM ^
I watched Hutchinson all game long — he was being held nonstop.
September 8th, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
And Gray/Bell, while not Kelce(who is?), had good games. So it's not like they got 0 production from the TE position.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:42 PM ^
Went into one of the most hostile environments in the NFL against the defending Champs and won. Let's. Fucking. Go!
September 8th, 2023 at 12:47 AM ^
"Oh, okay, they're BNL now? We need a shorthand for the Barenaked Ladies. That's how fundamental they are?"
September 8th, 2023 at 11:13 AM ^
Well played. Show is so damned funny.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:42 PM ^
I'm really enjoying the win, but still in complete fucking disbelief that the RT was *objectively* doing the tango for 2 seconds before the snap, 2 yards behind the LOS, on every single pass play all game, and didn't get called for it until the last drive of the game for KC
September 7th, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
Don’t think for a minute the NFL won’t reprimanded the officials for not calling a personal foul on Aiden when he continued to rush precious Mahomes when facing that.
September 9th, 2023 at 7:10 AM ^
Mahomes seems like a nice guy so I hate to kick him while he is down, but he has fallen off a cliff this year.
Mahomes currently leads the NFL in interceptions, incompletions and he has the worst record and QBR of any QB to start this season. Dude is past his prime.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
He was lined up as a fullback for half the game. But on runs, especially to his side, he was on the LOS. Basically told the DL what was coming.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
Ya but Mahomes has to be protected so its legal in Missouri
September 7th, 2023 at 11:51 PM ^
Not to mention the blatant non calls on holding, Hutch was so disruptive and could have had at least 3-4 sacks if the refs called things equitably.
Great win for the Lions, impressive to go there and win like that and ran the ball when they had to.
September 8th, 2023 at 1:17 AM ^
Yup, it was almost like on that last KC drive the refs realized they were way overdue for a holding call and made it then.
September 8th, 2023 at 10:38 AM ^
I think that is the most surprising thing. They swallowed their whistle on obvious calls all night and then called them correctly on the last drive. Usually the last drive is when The Lions get screwed on a call, so it was surprising that they actually made correct calls on the last drive for KC. It doesn't excuse all the obvious missed false starts, but it was surprising to NOT see The Lions get some crazy weird rules call on a critical last drive of a game for a loss.
September 8th, 2023 at 6:09 AM ^
The non-call/call that really stood out to me was the tripping called on the Lions…the series right after Donovan Smith tried to trip Hutchinson after getting knocked on his ass. It wasn’t as obvious but it was clear the KC tackles were doing everything they could, most of it illegal, to slow Hutchinson down. It was the first game for the refs too so maybe they will improve but it very much seemed like there a decision to swallow the whistle when Mahomes was in the game.
September 8th, 2023 at 6:22 AM ^
As a teacher who has to engage in PD on equality vs equity, the refs were calling it equitably. The Chiefs Oline needed to hold and start before the snap as an accommodation for any chance to move the ball last night.
September 8th, 2023 at 7:56 AM ^
Hutch was really good. He seemed to be getting significant pressure most of the time. He's really good.
Side note: It is great to see Mike Danna have some success. He was getting some pressure and TV time during the game.4 tackles 2 assists and a sack.
September 8th, 2023 at 10:15 AM ^
Hutch and Danna had a really nice talk at the end of the game, love seeing the Michigan boys chatting.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:59 PM ^
Probably should thank Collingsworth for that one, he brought it up on the telecast and it probably was relayed to the Stripes on the field by the powers that be.
September 8th, 2023 at 12:08 AM ^
Nope. The false start he was called on was WAY worse than the twitching he was doing all game long. They HAD to call that one! They could/should have called several more for twitching. And illegal formation.
September 8th, 2023 at 1:12 PM ^
My favorite part of the tackle finally jumping so bad that they had to call it was that it was a play he didn't have anyone lined up over him. There was zero need to time the snap count like that and get back into his stance like when Hutch was over there.
September 8th, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
Collingsworth won the night by calling him a slot receiver.
It's easy to say KC screwed themselves with the drops, but Hutch might've blown up some of those plays anyway if the RT was lined up legally.
September 8th, 2023 at 1:10 AM ^
And wasn't allowed to false start in nearly every play.
Hutch was living in his head.
September 8th, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
Yup I feel like it's a testament to Hutchinson that the RT felt it important to test the refs' limits to see how much of an advantage he could get away with
September 8th, 2023 at 9:04 AM ^
WTF refs? You’ve effectively changed the rules of football because 97 is unblockable. Let’s just make it official and always allow the RT to line up in the backfield and still say he’s on the LOS.
Hell, just call him the “H”utch-back!!
Fucking bullshit…
September 8th, 2023 at 2:06 PM ^
The failure to call that had a potentially huge impact. Glad the good guys still won.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Kadarius Toney is my new favorite Lion!
September 8th, 2023 at 1:27 PM ^
I thought it was awesome they showed Amon Ra St. Brown's handwritten list of WR"s that were drafted before him and it included Kadarius Toney. Bwahahaha
September 8th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
Wish they had highlighted his name. lol
September 7th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Branch, Campbell, Gibbs, & LaPorta what a rookie game-1 on the road in that environment vs defending Champs.
CJ is a difference maker. TY Philly.
Also, I get that they had their TE out which they mentioned 30× but no mentioned of Jameson..okay.
September 7th, 2023 at 11:58 PM ^
I mean tbh Jameson doesn’t look very promising. I think that may be a bust pick
September 8th, 2023 at 12:51 PM ^
You are being solidly negged and I get that he has barely played, but I think the entire organization is worried that this guy might not have the fire they require.
