Could Dallas have done the Fair Catch Kick rule at the end their with the time expired?
That's the rule where the team receiving a punt can call a fair catch and get a free kick for a FG with defenders playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. The kicker gets a running start too. If they are allowed to do that with the clock expired that was a missed opportunity by Dallas.
My thoughts on that question...Whatever people have their total value, intrinsic worth, and identity based in is what they are going to are going to be most "passionate" about.
For many people, sadly, it is a sport played by college kids. For such a person, if anything threatens that identity, such as a loss by their beloved football team, then they can go berserk, be depressed etc. such as the case with this person. It appears he really has no real hope in life beyond the glory of his football team. What else can explain such a hateful message to a kid who was trying to do his best. It's sad.
"I'm not leaving Michigan," Harbaugh said near the end of Tuesday's U-M football bust at Livonia's Laurel Manor. "Not even considering it. A lot of this talk is coming from our enemies, from coaches, you know the names. You probably know the names of the top three I'm referring to. They like to say that to the media. They like to tell that to the recruits, to their families, try to manipulate them into going to some other school besides Michigan. "We know them as jive turkeys. Say it like it is. that's the way it is."
Happy Thanksgiving! The turkey, it's gonna be YUGE, believe me. We're gonna eat so much turkey, that we're gonna get sick of eating turkey. Crooked grandma forgot the stuffing, not nice, very mean. Sweet potato pie? Overrated, very bad. I'll tell you, once we start winning, we are going to deport those native Americans. Very bad.
I'll have to adopt your DVR method, sounds a lot less stressful! I'll just need to self-induce a 3 hour coma as well.
But that's interesting. I think that's everyone's journey in life. Trying to fill the void that will ultimately satisfy and never disappoint. Unfortunately the worship of Michigan football probably isn't it. Since they will disappoint (in the form of 1 point losses to Iowa). And even the ecstasy of success is probably fleeting (i.e. National Championship). I don't see OSU fans down here with inner peace or joy even though they got one recently. They just want more because one wasn't enough. It all seems insufficient.
It's kind of crazy that so many of us in this sports crazy culture, including me at times, wrap up our emotional health on the outcome of a game played by 18-22 year olds.
If you think about, sports are supposed to be fun. But do we actually view watching Michigan play as "fun" or as an excruciating trial where our very identity is being tested? Especially if they don't perform to our standards.
In just observing our message boards during games, or living here in the midst of the OSU fanbase for the past decade, it feels like it's much more than that, like it's life or death. There is so much angst, anger, hate, and pride revolving around sports. Is it because so many of us wrap up our inherent identity in our team and it's performance? And if anything threatens that identity, whether an taunting OSU fan, or a poor performance by our team, we are either personally defensive and/or devastated emotionally. Why is it like that? Is it supposed to be that way?
Now this obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but clearly as this poll suggests, there are many that may fall into category.
Sorry for the pontification. This post got me in a philosophical mood.
He made big-time plays when it counted. The first TD to thwart Sparty momentum. The 4th down tackle from behind to once again thwart Sparty momentum. The critical sack that should have sealed the game. And then the 2-point conversation that really sealed the game.
I went to College Gameday last year wearing Michigan gear in EL and Spartan fans were fine for the most part. A lot of them laughed at my sign I brought (the one in my avatar). Except for one guy who was being a douche by trying to block my sign with his. I think he wanted to fight me. I just tried killing him with kindness and it worked, he was cool after that.
