Basketball, a few games into the season if I recall.  Missed a game due to an “illness”. That same night went to watch a different game.

Was there ever concern w with our staff with what happened w him in high school?  Pretty sure he played hoops as a senior and skipped a game, ended up quitting soon after

If you notice, our late game If you notice, our late game offense usually consists of only one or two passes. That conservative approach hurt us against Purdue and will continue to against fundamentally sound defensive teams. Same when the clock is winding down, we turn into iso ball and I️ would argue that’s the weakest aspect of this years team. Z has the ability to break down a defender but lacks the size and quick release that Walton had to pull up. I️ do think Poole is the answer to that, just a year away.
I️ believe the foul by I️ believe the foul by Simpson was intentional as Michigan had 1 foul to give. You hope you can set your half court defense and contest the last shot. Unfortunately Mo panicked/gambled, and Haas stepper up and made a pressure FT. Sucks but nothing to hang heads about. Was a great game, great atmosphere and for a young team that lacks senior leadership to take the blows from Purdue and turn around and hit them back was exciting and positive to see.

He does indeed go to Lima He does indeed go to Lima Sr...improved a ton from soph season to jr season and wouldn't surprise me to see another leap, kid is an extremely hard worker. Has good quickness, jumper is the main weakness but that can be improved.
Any of the coaches lurking Any of the coaches lurking care to comment on the first int Jake threw? To me watching it seemed like a cover 2 and as such it looked like Perry was settling into an opening in the zone. Appeared to be a misread of coverage possibly by Rudock?
Brian this is a fantastic

Brian this is a fantastic piece and I agree completely with the timeout proposition, especially the media timeout bullet point.  The only other thing I would add is to clean up the contact off the ball (chucking cutters) and you would have more scoring.  I think the game as it is now is fine outside of the number of stoppages in the game due to media timeouts, coaches timeouts, and reviews.

Nice write up Ace, as with

Nice write up Ace, as with most things there are advantages/disadvantages to each...the biggest disadvantage to the hard hedge in my opinion is it puts the big in a precarious position to pick up a cheap blocking foul.  Another possible option is the "squeeze method" (my terminology).  In my opinion this is most effective vs guards that are good at penetrating the lane and creating for others, not very good on guards with the ability to shoot.  The squeeze involves the big man guarding the screener basically hugging his man and allowing the guard to go under neath the screen.  By squeezing it prevents the picker from rolling into the defending guard.  As I said it can be very effective vs guards that are unable to shoot off the dribble. I think UM has done a pretty good job at defending the ball screens so far but I also think that there are teams on the schedule left that are more adept at efficiently using the P & R with greater rates of success.

Excellent write up.  One

Excellent write up.  One thing I will add on Mathias at Purdue...he's more than just a shooter.  While he lacks elite level athleticism his hoops IQ is off the charts and his court vision and passing are very underrated.  He's going to make Hammons better by being on the floor.  Purdue will surprise some people I think.  They are young but that youth is talented.  I see them winning a game or two that they shouldn't as well as possibly dropping a game or two that they shouldn't due to lack of college game experience.

Thank you for posting exactly

Turd, Thank you for posting exactly how I felt about that comment as well.

Amen....well said and couldn't agree more.

I think the player/former

I think the player/former player frustrations are the attacks that they are seeing/hearing/reading on "their" coach.  They have spent a lot of time and invested a lot of energy and emotions with the entire coaching staff.  The normal reaction is to lash out and get defensive as that is exactly what the fan base is doing as well.  I will continue to support and root for the Maize and Blue regardless how tough it is, and most likely will be for the rest of the season. The young men sacrificing their time, body, and energy deserve that.

I think he was on the verge

I think he was on the verge of having Michigan enter the recruiting picture when he committed to Purdue.  He would have been a great fit in Belein's offense with his high IQ and shot making ability, personally I think the Boilers stole one.  There's a reason why Huggins, Painter, and Dawkins were after him.

IMO probably low end of the

IMO probably low end of the spectrum but not a bad starting point.  He brings an extremely high basketball IQ, good court vision, and the ability to score...he will have to adjust to the speed/physicality of the college game.  His biggest challenge will be defensively, if he figures that out I can see him 20+ minutes a game as a freshman.  Only time will tell...

Agree completely...Mathias

Agree completely...Mathias is not redshirting.  He will be their best shooter the minute he steps on campus.  The Stauskas comparison is a good one...probably a better ball handler than Nik but not as athletic as what Nik is.

I'm no fan of a 7-5 season

I'm no fan of a 7-5 season but if you take off your maize and blue colored glasses you will see that our defense this year is eerily similar to our offense in 2008 (worse than dreadful)...that offense was a bunch of over matched freshman which is basically what our defense is now...I know patience is tough but I really think with the right D coordinator (Casteel I hope you're reading this) Michigan is closer than the games who...when your D cannot stop anybody the games are going to be closer than they should against bad teams and worse than they should be against good teams...going to the bowl game and getting the extra practice time is going to be huge going forward, IF RR stays

I think the questions everyone wants to know is....

does he have stumpy legs?

IMO

Strictly my opinion but I would say it has more to do with inexperience/lack of talent than it does coaching. Floyd I believe played safety in high school..this is his 3rd year of playing corner at UM...assuming he has played football since he was a kid when the going gets tough he most likely like other players reverts back to habits/instincts. Thats not to say that good coaching cant overcome habits and instincts but it has to be drilled and practiced until it becomes habit and now that the NCAA is watching its up to the kids *sarcasm*. I still believe in Rich Rod and still think he's the man for the job but I think he needs to give the power over the defense to the DC. Ultimately as head coach he makes the final decisions but if he doesn't trust a DC to do what's best for the team why have him as your DC. Hopefully these guys play the last 4 games with a sense of pride and will their way to a few stops here and there. A bowl game and the extra 15-20 practices that would come with bowl season is beyond important to this team.

I would say that you probably

I would say that you probably should have put your hand in between your left shoulder and the breast of what appears to be a very attractive blonde..either way kudos to you supporting the blue away from home.

Magnus, couldn't agree more,

Magnus, couldn't agree more, Mauk plays in the same league as my alma mater so I am pretty familiar with him and have seen him play a few times. Very talented kid but definitely more in the mold of a Forcier (on and off the field) with respect to being a pass first QB. His high school team goes 5 wide, never punts, goes for 2 after every score, fun to watch but it also is deceiving with respect to stats.

Roxio

I too use Roxio 2010...once you get used to it its fairly easy to put together a movie...I haven't learned the advanced stuff yet but every time I use it I find something new...that being said it's not free I think you can get it for under $100 though

TH

I will gladly accept TH's season tickets if he is so "disgusted" with the main 2 Michigan programs...The fact that Rich Rod has taken all of this heat in stride should earn him some respect and I also echo the sentiments that having the title of Coach is enough to warrant  a true fan's support. I urge TH to sit down with Elliot and Brock Mealer, look them in the eye, and tell them that he is against Rich, pretty good chance he doesn't leave that room healthy. IN ROD WE TRUST he will bring big blue back

We need the coner to come up

We need the coner to come up with some kind of lyrical wizardry for Michigan football that could be broadcast on game days

Defense: Thomas

Defense: Thomas Gordon

Offense: Mike Cox is definitely ready to break out and be seen

Its not great quality but if you're from the school that its better than nothing...go to youtube and copy the URL for the intimidation song (the video is in another MGoBlog post) and then go to youtubelisten.com that site will let you convert to mp3 as audio. I'm looking forward to adding it to my stadium sounds today

Has anyone else struggled to get past the Wiscy game in online dynasty? I have tried to play that game 3 times now and the game has froze each time. Just curious if its a glitch anyone else has run into or just my own problem

He will be a success...I know He will be a success...I know his family well and they are all dedicated to working hard and earning things. Elliot has talent is athletic and will outwork people. Kudos to ESPN for a great, heart warming and inspiring piece on a family that deserved to have it done.
