But does "We could have done something better" mean he did something wrong???

While proselytizing, skip the part of your brain where you feel superior and you feel able to judge a situation you know very little about that involves people you know nothing about.

Bias is a helluva drug, no?

Yeah!

Be bold, say you'll eat your own foot or something.

This

Nice to see at least one poster here bounce off the high horse of self righteousness, clouded by envy of the success of Dantonio and Izzo, clouded by irrational hatred of MSU, to make a sensible statement.

Question

If Harbaugh gets the excuse that the team was young, had injuries, and was down to the 38th string quarterback with a lousy offensive line, why don't these two?

The offense sucked and it is ONLY Pep and Drevno. Despite the fact that Harbaugh is the Quarterback Whisperer and the de facto offensive coordinator.

I get it now. Harbaugh gets the apologists, everyone else is the scapegoat.

Has ANYONE Ever Thought About This:

Every once in awhile, just like down here when we elect a new pope, maybe up there they elect a new god.

So this new god (maybe he likes to be called something more creative, like Harry the Pickle)--maybe he likes Ohio State!

Or maybe he was, like many message board guys, denied admission to UM but posed as a UM grad on a blog or pay site--but was called a "WalMart Wolverine" one day and is now exacting his revenge as god-elect.

I seriously don't understand why anyone thinks ONE guy is the all-time god forever and ever, anyway. It kind of makes heaven boring if there's no advancement opportunities above halos and wings. What do the Type A personalities do up there for fun for a thousandy-grilliondy-hazillion years?

Hmmm...Not Really

This board sucks without guys like me. I mean, how many "Who's Yer Favorite Player" threads can you tolerate without going crazy?

This and every blog needs the foils, the guys who think, as in THINK rationally and counter the prevailing (breaking?) wind.

Got any proof that Rodriguez is gonna work out? No? Thought so. So let's allow those who don't agree that he walks on water to speak their mind. And while we're so busy posing as Michigan grads, let's learn how to argue on better terms than, "Troll! Douchebag!"

Until then, STFU, and thanks for reading.

Arguing With Ourselves

Looks like coach is a whiner. Fans are fans. You'll ALWAYS have this type of thing. Besides, Rodriguez is stinking it up.

This is like asking what makes someone choose a political position, then arguing with him or her over it.

Jeebus, this stuff is silly. Coach just need sto shut his yap, win games, and then the complaining will go away.

I guess that's too tough for him to understand.

I Love This

Recruit rankings don't mean shit because everyone here is pimping Rodriguez as a "wins with less" guy and hopes the Ray Vinnopals of the world pan out to "prove" their point.

As for Mack Brown and Urban Meyer--are you kidding me? Urban has two of the last four NC's, Brown won it all a couple years ago (and has a bad team after winning 10 games something like 11 years in a row). As they ALL say: check out the guys who win NC's and then check out their recruiting rankings. There's usually a positive relationship there.

I guarantee if Rich Rodriguez pulls in more 4's and 5's, this board will surely forget the "wins with less" bullsheet.

By the way edit: Ya think if Demar Dorsey was a lowly two or three star Rodriguez, or anybody elts, would have been ignoring his baggage?

Hopefully

He can keep his daughter away from the locker room this time around. Last time, she got around so much she could probably field her own offense with former CU players' childrens.

I Like The Part

Where you completely miss the point of my post. Kid looks up a Michigan message board, and some poster says something bad about him, so he decides to go to another school.

I'm SURE this happens all the time.

It's not like a good recruiter and a good coach can't make a better impression than the fringe element that hangs his self esteem on the exploits of teenagers and every word of the writers of his favorite message board or blog.

What Would a Michigan Fan Be

Without his or her immense quantity of ad hominem attacks while lacking the substance for quality backing of their embattled football coach.

What a funny world the Michigan blogosphere is these days, where a coach whose presence has undermined everything great about this once proud program (cue the APPY STATE BIG WORDS BIG WORDS replies) and reduced its fans to enabling excuse makers who cannot tolerate diversity of opinion.

It's the Michigan difference!

A Sad Life?

Oh, I don't know. I go months without reading this blog, then come on here and post my opinions about what I feel has been a mistaken hire (and I've been consistent).

YOU, on the other hand, are following ME around.

Hmmm....

Well, this IS MGoBlog

And I'd like to see some empirical evidence that backs such a claim. I'm waiting for the first recruit to come out and say, "HEll, man. I was ALL IN FOR MICHIGAN, but some asshole on BLue Bills Basement Bunker Blog said I don't have the nads for Big Ten football, so NEBRASKA HERE I COME!"

This stuff is the newest whinefest from King Beaver of Scout. Either he's comping memberships to recruits or these guys, who we're led to believe need to be paid so they can eat while on campus all the sudden have the bucks to subscribe to multiple pay sites just to see what some dork burger flipper in Great Carbuncle, Maine has to say about Michigan, Alabama, or Tennessee football.

Awesome!

Anytime you can hold an opponent under 66 points, you can consider it a job well done.

Come on Man

This is something I disagree with.

For one, what if this vocal minority (majority? I think so) thinks THEIR plan is best for Michigan? They have the same right as those who think Rodriguez is best for Michigan.

Also, if they are to be lumped into the crowd of thinking RR and his crew are hillbillies, then you can be lumped into the crowd of people who are just as narrow minded--those who accuse Rodriguez critcizers as wanting "Three yards and a cloud of dust" or "The Good Olde Days"

It's tit for tat on all levels. It's just people being fans. And guess what? Unless you're ingoring what's going on, those who aren't in favor of keeping Rodriguez have a hell of a lot of evidence to back their claims.

You Remind me Of the Weatherman in

"Anchorman" LOUD NOISES is replaced with BIG WORDS BIG WORDS

You've just disqualified 98% of the posts and posters on this and every message board ever in the universe.

Relevant to what? Because I disagree? C'mon, man. Grow a pair.

I Post Here

Because I am a concerned fan and have that sort of thing called an "opinion" and enjoy speaking out about the shape of the program.

As for Gerg--no, Rodriguez has not tossed him under the bus. Yet.

BS

It's chicken-little CRAP. Unless, of course, Rodriguez's recruits really do suck and no one can come in here and coach them.

As for the scaredy-pants "We're a spread team now and BOO HOO" Holy shit--the team is not relevant at all as of this writing. How much worse can it get?

With Forcier and Gardner, a bunch of big, tall, sure handed receivers, a running back coming in, a big, athletic offensive line, and some tight ends who are prototypical NFL tight end size and skillz, why would UM guarantee to suck if another coach cam ein?

Expecially one who knew a thing or two about defense.

And, of course, why would another coach come in and not coach a team to it's strengths?

Chicken little. The sky is falling.

Another ruse by the blind-faithed Rodriguez All or Nothing crew.

Rodriguez

I'm sorry, but the mentality here and from Rodriguez seems to be one of Michigan Fan being some sort of "GroupThink" monolith.

This kind of stuff is pathetic coming from a guy who has made millions of dollars, yet stunk it up royally and has shown a propensity to toss whomever he feels necessary under the bus of his incomparably large supply of denial in any culpability for the mess he's in.

Jekyll and Hyde

I question whether the offense is really becoming "unstoppable"--expecially when it was stopped pretty well by Iowa, MSU, and PSU for much of those games.

Really, one game against Illinois and you guys are all foaming at the mouth?

Oh yeah, the offense looked great against UMass, Bowling Green, Indiana, and Notre Dame. Wow.

That's a Load of Crap

Even though this "Brian" said it, it's BS. For one, doesn't Rodriguez recruit up till signing day? Isn't Rodriguez the one who said something like, "If they ain't signed, they could still be mined"? OR did he say, "Until he signs, he could be mines"?

The point being: Good recruiters RECRUIT. Now we've got the excuse mill running into recruiting.

Yes, things just keep getting fuzzier and fuzzier on Michigan message boards.

You guys just don't understand how enabling you have become.

Hey Now

I thought the defense was super young, freshies and sophs? Why does that excuse work for Rodriguez but no one elts?

Very Well Said

For one, the free pass for Rodriguez has to stop somewhere. HE is the one who keeps hiring defensive coordinators that us message board guys think don't work out too well. If Gerg is canned, that's two in three years. The trending says: Rodriguez don't know defense, yet he's meddling and hurting his DC's and his defensive players.

I don't see why you want to keep bringing back a head coach who keeps fuddling up his defense that badly. Who is next year's wastoid?

OR, does Rich Rod all the sudden get it right with a new DC next year by finding someone desperate enough to coach Rod's 3-3-5, NOT hire his own staff, not worry about whether it would be the last chance for Rodriguez (in other words, live out of a hotel and a suitcase for an entire year), probably not recruit--

WOWIE! Where do I sign up for that incredible gig? Oh wait, maybe super duper DC's will beat down Rodriguez's office door to apply under those wonderful circumstances, eh?

Gordie

Now THAT's funny!

Ward

This is one of those selctive arguments that is used to support Rodriguez, and it is used ad nauseum.

Wasn't the battle cry at the time of the hiring, "Rodriguez and Michigan Talent? Aww HELLZ YEAS! We'll win all the national championships!"

Yet now, when we need to grant Rodriguez reprieve after reprieve (and I don't know why), it's all the sudden become, "HEY! Quit saying 'We're Michigan' We will not get talent just because of our fancy helmets and great fight song!"

Which is it?

Critical Thinking

Skills, you must admit, apply these days only to those (at least here and for Scouties) to those willing to extend the hand of excuse waving into the realm of the other-worldly for a guy who has, quite simply, not earned his paycheck so far.

I would like for posters to stop thinking they are smart simply because they have some sort of blind faith in Rodriguez and relegating any arguments to the contrary as irrational. Just because Michigan finally beat someone (and someone barely worthy of note) does not portend a ship that is all the sudden righted.

There is still a LONG way to go to prove this thing will work. Let's see them be competitive for four quarters against Wisconsin and OSU (or against MSU, Iowa, and PSU for that matter).

That's All Fine and Dandy

But there is a torrent of hatred for GERG out there and a ton of "He can't coach!"--which has come directly from left field and undercut the "GERG is great!" from year one of GERG, and "Now just wait til we have the same DC for a second year" stuff.

Decimated or not, Big Bad Lloyd Carr Monster or not, Rodriguez is absolved of any and all blame for the defense time and again, and you know, it's OLD in Year Three. It's excuses, plain and simple.

I'm saying if this thing is still decimated, it's not GERG's fault and he should get a second or third chance just as much as Rodriguez and his cronies from WVU.

And I don't see where blowing GERG out after this season is anything but another mistake by Rodriguez.

Call me unsatisfied with 67-65 wins over crap like Illinois (coached by another guy deemed an "idiot" by legions of Michigan fans throughout the cyberspace), I don't care. But Rodriguez is the root of the problem now and no amount of holding your breath til you turn blue to defend him wipes the crap away.

But But Wait, WHAT?

Do recruiting rankings matter again? I'm so confused.

This is Spin at it's Best

The old saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder applies here.

I don't know how you slice 65 points and a zillion yards any other way than "Shockingly horrible."

But you got to start somewhere, I guess.

That's Fine

So we should all feel sorry for GERG and give him a three year free pass, right?

Come On Now

Stop talking about our defense!

Tha Stunna

Nails it. It's hilarious, no matter what you think of GERG and Rich Rod. It's just funny stuff.

Now, expecting "class" on a message board? That is fucking insane.

Personally,

I can't wait for this meme to die. I was wondering if the free pass would be extended until Mispogon got his PhD in Decimated Defense.

Subjectivity is a Helluva Drug

Denard is something, that cannot be denied.

Howeva, he came up real short in the three losses. MSU dominated him; Iowa relegated him to an afterthought; PSU was up something like 34-10 before he caught fire.

We're all in love with "ZOWIE ZOINKS! 500 million yards!" But Denard lacks a signature win against a good team (redundant? Yes, by gourd).

Durability is not exactly a strong point, either. He has been injured in nearly, if not every, game.

Go out and win three of the last four (or ALL OF THEM), not go down to injury, and be the same guy against OSU and Wisconsin he was against Notre Dame and Indiana, and HELLZ YEAH! Pencil him in.

WEll THEn...

Do it, and quit bitching.

The Question Is

What kind of coaching are they getting? It seems most here agree that they are receiving lousy coaching at the hands of the DB coach (Dews or Gibson? I confused) and GERG.

So, yeah--next year they either get the same shitty coaching everyone rants about OR they get a new DC and possibly some new DB/safeties coach..AND a whole new system. AGAIN.

Should be fun!

Besides--I've seen numerous posts here and eltswhere about experience--as in BAD experience and confidence. While I'm sure a two point stop on Illinois to hold them to 65 points was great for morale, I'm still very concerned that all our defenders seem to be flailing away at nothing and ONCE AGAIN a defensive coordinator forced to coach a defense he is not familiar with, with a staff that seems to regard him as a leper with swine flu and genital warts, will take the fall for this season's disaster on defense.

And next year we get to do this all over again!

So

Poor lil Rich Rod gets the benefit of the doubt by having, I MEAN HAVING to play all these freshmen and sophomores on defense....but GERG doesn't?

I detect more than a little of the dichotomy...nay, HYPOCRISY in the tone of Michigan fans here.

When you are on the verge of having to blow out your second defensive coordinator in three years...you have issues, not them.
