Some excellent choices here,…

Some excellent choices here, but my taste is generally lighter...spy/thriller/intrigue mixed with some ass kickers I am happy to have on our side.

John Sandford - Virgil Flowers series and Lucas Davenport series

Brad Thor

David Baldacci

Karin Slaughter

Stephen White

I read all the Harry Potter books and the Grisham books up until the last few...not feeling Grisham at the moment.

bookseriesinorder.com will give a rundown of all these in the order they were written if you have a need to read in order...they do build character and personality through the series, but are still good out of order.

Agree...but does it set any…

Agree...but does it set any coaching staff up for any level of anti-trust or anti-free market stuff if they decide to play one guy over another, and that guy benefits while the guy who doesn't play (and of course is told by all of us who are in love with backups that he should be playing LOL) doesn't gain any benefit?  Are laws related to likeness/image, etc., solid enough to prevent this type of attempt?

This is great stuff…

This is great stuff especially for those of us that have never coached but want to understand more about what is going on...I have only one question, and it's on play 2...if I look at it from my unschooled football mind, it appears to me this could go either way...that Turner trucked the guy and got 11 is a good result, but was it the right call?  Shea is facing the top of the screen on the read, Hayes and Bredeson double teaming one guy.  It would seem Hayes could slide off to the linebacker, Eubanks has the safety OR there is enough blocking for the wideout to blow by his coverage.  Could this have been a pull and either run or pass?

Back in the day (when you could still carry some things into the stadium) we would buy a half gallon of cider on the way.  Drink it down to top of label.  Small bottle of Southern Comfort fit perfectly into the container.  Warmth on a cool football Saturday.

To me, total pass attempts…

To me, total pass attempts are not as important as the ability to pass effectively when needed. I believe progress was made, and more is coming...and qb / o-line development is on the rise.

Also, as an aside, found a picture of delany and a hat I think would go well with his hairstyle.

I was there Saturday also,

I was there Saturday also, but lots more there that day than Friday evening. The judge is one of the best men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Checked Sig online directory, and only 1 '81 was not in the house already by the time I left...

We probably have...I did go

We probably have...I did go to the rededication, actually took my oldest daughter that weekend. Did hear about the cat burning incident, and good for you for doing something about it. Graduated December 79, so not there when you rushed...one of your '81 brothers who is a fairly prominent Judge and I are still close, and I am back for 3-4 games a year in the fall.

I am glad we are back on track, can't say I am thrilled with all the old architecture inside being changed due to building codes, as I loved that front staircase and all the openness upstairs as well. If you were at rededication on Friday night, I think there was a group shot taken...are you in it?

MGROWOLD sad truth

Paragraph is perfectly accurate...amazing how many believe their kid is D-1 capable and it's our job to facilitate their process.

I believe I read in another thread you are a Sigma Chi?  As am I.

Being a basketball referee

In short, if you have a love for the game and want to try to provide a fair environment for the players, please do it. The average age of officials is getting higher every year, and we need new blood. Over the past 20 years I have done 15 of high school and club soccer and 15 of middle school and high school basketball. I do not do soccer any longer (the field got really big as I got older) and am dual licensed for basketball in Wisconsin and Michigan.

I echo many of the same positive stories and sentiments described above. We have all experienced coaches and fans who are difficult, those who are reasonable, and games where fantastic displays of sportsmanship were demonstrated and those where we had to invoke rules to control it. It has been a worthwhile experience for me, and I got involved because i wanted to help provide a fair and safe environment for the kids to enjoy a game. If your goal is to help the game and help provide positive experiences for the kids, sign up immediately. Join a local ref association that provides some additional training and rules clarification and provide you with some games.

The 4 plays

Much easier I guess to look at still photos of plays...let's take them one at a time...I don't understand why audibles cannot be used to keep people honest. I am not a student of the game, but these are questions at least to my casual eye.

1. Iso - 7.5 in the box, slot LB not honestly playing Funchess. Either a quick throw to Funch or fake to Kerridge who attacks the LB and use swing pass to Fitz...why run against 8 in the box? It was 1st and ten, and we hear Al talk about unfavorable down and distance stuff all the time. I like Funch 1 on 1...

2. Zone play...we really have nothing to change the formation and change the defensive alignment? Split backs? Gun? Pistol? Anything? Slip middle screen?

3. Power play...against 8 in the box.  Same alignment for us, pretty much same alignment for them. idk who missed the assignment, but outnumbered anyway. Again, no chance for audible? Bring Kerridge and Fitz backside instead? Fake to Kerridge and pitch? Any variety at all?

4. Pants - 8 in the box again...another slow developing play that allows the defense to make its key reads and react before we even get moving. Even straight ahead blocking with penning in the box to get around it might work...we don't seem to do anything to keep them honest.

What are Gardner's keys on these plays? Does he not have any flexibility?
