While the principle underlying his gifts should be applauded, the prudence of such is extremely questionable.
Assuming he didn't know it was a violation, a bit negligent not to ask compliance... assuming he did know, christmas is a time for giving generous non cash gifts to assistant coaches, completely unrelated to job performance.
I understand the issue of Dunn will continue to linger until NSD, but until he shows a strong interest in M, I'd rather just forget about him altogether.
Objectively, M would have been a perfect fit for him (upper tier academics, character staff, aspirations of a traditional M power running game), but the kid obviously loves OSU enough, despite penalties and a non-conforming offense, to stick with that joke of a university.
With fear that my M pride clouds my rationality, I say cut ties... see you on the field in three years when wormely, pip, bolden, strobel, mario, ross, and RJS are clogging the gaps.
I too didn't think the bowl ban was forthcoming, however, my post was addressing the practical effect the punishment will have on their program which I believe will not be as severe as some might perceive.
Personally, no hoorays here... our opposition's fan base thrives on making excuses anytime their program doesn't perform on the field. I'd prefer no excuses, and we beat the strongest buckeye teams possible.

Further, a combination of buckeye myopia possessed by many ohio recruits and Meyer's ability to jedi mind trick these kids will keep their team relevant. Additionally, the buckeyes have put together really solid recruiting classes recently, mitigating the effects of losing an average of three scholies a year for the next three years.
Regardless, next years M/OSU game will basically represent their bowl game, and crushing them at the shoe will be epic...
