I think the culture is…

I think the culture is broken and it started in 2019, went we went to the “spread” and the 3 man DLine.

To “modernize” the offense, meant going away from the principles the staff knows how to teach/recruit/and dominate with. The team has lost their edge of coming out and dominating someone. I didn’t love 24/7 manball in 2015-2018, but it worked for Michigan. Those team played with an edge even in losses. It works for Wisconsin still.

The 3 man D-line doesn’t create penetration. Our Best defenses 2016/2018 played 4 down line. Came off the edges, didn’t try and twist and stunt 24/7. This defense is constantly out of position bc they’re moving way to much.

if we do move on, I hope it’s Haffley.. he’s got the principles in his style, that is on par with how we play our best.

Crossing routes are by far…

Crossing routes are by far the hardest thing for a defense to cover. Cover 3 is the best way to cover these but thats not what we do often,  I'll explain.

Cover 3 has 4 under 3 over the top. Against a spread 2x2 formation 1back, here' are the important players.

The curl-flat player (OLB 3-4, Safety/OLB 3-3-5, Safety 4-2) to the strength (2 WR/ 1 Back side) has a 2 to 1 read. Meaning, they get hands on 2 if he goes vertical or an out, then gets under #1. If #1 goes vertical, they get depth and look for a crosser coming back across.

The hook-curl player to the strength (MLB 4-2, 3-4, MLB/OLB 3-3) (2wr/1back) has a 3 to 2 read. They open to # 3, back releasing or 5th wr and try and get under #2. If #2 crosses, the back becomes #2 if he opens to his side. The hope is the back become #1 and the curl-flat player picks him up. If that happens, the hook-curl player has to find a new #2 coming from the other side, where he is usually out of position. The ball will come either inside or outside of him.

The Hook-Curl player on the weak side(OLB or Safety) (2 wr/ opposite back) has a #2 read. Get underneath #2 as he comes across. He has to identify which receiver is coming across the slot or outside guy. Once he crosses his face, the #2 comes from the opposite side. If he follows #2, he's out of position for the new #2.

He left to pursue media and coach his own 3 boys. But I don’t know what he’s been doing since. I talk to him once or twice a year only.

He’s very high quality X and Os guy. We didn’t play zones (hook to curl I.e) it was more of a 2 to 1 read. Or 2 to 3. Always finding your next work.

When he was our coach, he didn’t want to be away from his boys. Which were young. Hence he didn’t leave Columbus.

I would guess his lack of D1 experience and being opinionated don’t help him. one thing you can say, and it sucks when it’s directed at you, he’s completely honest. He would tell us, this dudes more athletic than you. That comes off arrogant to some.

and it was directed at me several times. Turns out, I couldn’t run with Nate Washington. They kept putting him in the slot. And I was an OLB.

He also has a freshman son who is 6’3 225 that plays varsity in Pickerington North. A central Ohio powerhouse.

I had Marcus as a coach in college. He coached our secondary (D2).. he was a phenomenal coach. He basically set our game plan each week. Did a ton of Automatic checks based on the offense formation.

-we played a ton of cover 3

-we played cover 4 on anything 10 yards and longer

- he could tell you the play the opposing team was running as soon as they broke into formation.

-ran a ton of combo coverage with the safety and outside backer passing things.

-he kept it real as hell. He’d tell you, we can’t run this defense bc xyz isn’t athletic enough. Made fun of every DB for killing grass, instead of finding work on the backside.

probably be a great coach, not sure on recruiting.

Its only a pick if they make contact pre ball being thrown. The defender wasn't close to the receiver as they disguised coverage.  He ran into the crossing route post catch.

As of tonight.. The top 4 teams are a combined 24-0.

With 1 win against a team currently ranked in the top 25!

2 SEC Losses should move us up to 13th at worst!

There are a ton of good places, I've lived here for 10+ years. Mohawk Lounge in German Village is my personal favorite.

If you're going to be in Granville, then you'll have to visit the Granville Inn at some point, along with Moe's original BBQ.

If you'd like to stay east of 270, I'd go to Hudson 29 or the Barn at Rocky Fork Creek (both in the New Albany/Gahanna area)

As stated above, Easton is a great place, yet is mostly chain places.
