Couldn't watch most of the game, but on seeing some highlights, I'm inclined to think Livers's return was a big help to UM's transition defense, especially after makes. Seemed like every time he made a shot, he was the one pointing at people and communicating to get everyone aligned. I'm sure there was overall team improvement in that respect too, but man, is it good to see Livers back.

Zavier Simpson... shooting guard? Really? He can defend and distribute, but the man isn't a shooter. I'd swap him and Cassius for the All-B1G team.

The colors on the shooting charts are kinda driving me nuts though. What determines the color used in each section?

I regret to inform you that UTLIV is extremely less hardcore than you had hoped.

Among other things, I was…

Among other things, I was fairly frustrated with the way the end of the 1st half was handled. 55 seconds to go, all 3 timeouts, and instead of either kneeing it out, or going for the throat, Michigan runs a couple times, took maybe 1 timeout? and then just lets time expire.

I know at the time going for more points didn't seem like an urgent necessity, but would've been great practice for sub-2 minute drills, which we've notoriously been not so good at.

Probably the saddest thing about this possibly/probably being the last time Michigan goes up against Lovie Smith is we'll never get to see that cat again in a game preview.

Kinda surprised Todd and Moody have Kansas in the running still despite the potential for scholarship cuts and a postseason ban. Fingers crossed they make a... Self-less decision?

The only way to salvage the…

The only way to salvage the season is if we beat all remaining teams in such embarrassing fashion that they fire their coach immediately, a la Rutgers.

Barring that, I'm happy with any win, but I start to elevate my expectations for the team with a 14+ point margin of victory.

Bit of a walk, but I'd recommend hitting Fraser's on Packard before the game. Park there or at the bank across the street for free, enjoy some food and a beer, and walk on over ~30 minutes before kick-off.

Sure, our WRs are great, but…

Sure, our WRs are great, but our RBs haven't had much of an opportunity to shine. The write-ups this past week about how the run game changed drastically at just the threat of a QB-keeper when Milton was in were really on point - you can't ask our RBs to get 6 yards a carry when running into a stacked box, but make the defense respect the possibility of a QB run, and things start to open up.

I could be very wrong, but isn't Michigan's record ATS pretty abysmal, regardless of Home/Away?

To satisfy my own curiosity…

To satisfy my own curiosity on this, I decided to check the rule book. It doesn't actually say anything about a "bounce" having an impact on fair "catchability", though using the word "catch" does sort of imply (to me) that the ball never hit the ground:

Fair Catch ARTICLE 1.

a. A fair catch of a scrimmage kick is a catch beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player who has made a valid signal during a scrimmage kick that is untouched beyond the neutral zone.

b. A fair catch of a free kick is a catch by a Team B player who has made a valid signal during an untouched free kick.

c. A valid or invalid fair catch signal deprives the receiving team of the opportunity to advance the ball. The ball is declared dead at the spot of the catch or recovery. If the catch preceeds the signal, the ball is dead when the signal is first given.

d. If the receiver shades his eyes from the sun without waving his hand(s), the ball is live and may be advanced.

Did Adam Jacobi ghostwrite…

Did Adam Jacobi ghostwrite the Maryland section?

Is there a reason

Is there a reason that some positions (like Partridge with the safeties) seem to relish not naming any starters until right before the season whereas in Pep's presser, he seemed kinda dismayed that they don't "have a number 1" for QB? I guess I can see pros and cons for both sides, but the inconsistency between coaches seemed interesting to me.

Great write-up, but...

Hey Seth, great write-up, but I've never played CK2. Could I get the whole thing rewritten with AoE2 or Civ metaphors? Much appreciated.

Yup!

The link Brian added above the image is to an earlier post of his about Jim's quote board:

Well said.

I had forgotten that Harbaugh added that Integrity quote on his whiteboard. Looking around college athletics, I feel like we're kinda lucky to have what appear to be such high integrity coaches.

More transparency is definitely necessary though, from the U as a whole.

Brainiac OL?

Reminds me of John Urschel, in the sense that he is both (way) smarter and (way) more athletic than me. I'm on board.
