Reaction at Value City I was sitting in the first row directly behind the OSU bench during the game (the fact that I bought the tickets online in November for $12 apiece is a separate issue). Several other arguments made by Markell seem to indicate that he does not fully understand the NCAA's rules -- for instance, when he complained to Langseth that a penalty was not called on the play where the U of M player (Caporusso, I believe) caught and released teh puck in the offensive zone (see Rule 6, Section 19a for an explanation that the only penalty call available is on either picking the puck up off the ice or throwing it out of bounds). However, he and the rest of the arena seemed to understand the "kick rule" better than Langseth et al. "A goal shall not be allowed if the puck has been kicked or directed into the goal off of an attacking player's skate. When in doubt the goal shall be disallowed." After the replay of the "goal" was played in the arena, Markell, the OSU bench, and all the OSU fans within 5 rows of my seat acknowledged that it likely would be waived off. The reaction within the arena afterwards was as much of shock as celebration.
