As mentioned earlier,…

As mentioned earlier, Enfield's kind of a unique cat. Could be he also relished the chance to be at a school that takes academics seriously, as does SMU. Remember - he's a Johns Hopkins grad with an MBA (IINM) from Maryland, so you can see he values first-rate education.

Hardly saying that was the deal-maker, but little things like that can certainly be additive.

We won, the Colts won, and…

We won, the Colts won, and the Ratbirds lost (in crushing fashion as a bonus!), so this football weekend's already a W for me.

Would've been a perfect weekend had aOSU lost, but can't have everything, I guess. At least they embarrassed Sparty.

Caleb Williams looked like…

Caleb Williams looked like Lamar Jackson whenever he sees the Steelers.

Can you imagine the B1G teams lined up to take a swat at Southern Cal after all those years (decades?) of losing Rose Bowls? Things could get really ugly for them these next few years, especially if Riley sticks around.

But I'm A-OK with that, because the hell with Southern Cal.

I'm taking Maryland +19.5…

I'm taking Maryland +19.5 all the way to the bank. Expecting that other school to come out a little rusty from the bye and for the Terrapins to land some early haymakers. Maybe, just maybe, that sets the tone for the whole game.

Aside from watching us notch…

Aside from watching us notch a hopefully cruise-controlesque W v. Nebraska, I'll be rooting for CU to get back on track, because the hell with Southern Cal.

Not that anyone's checking…

Not that anyone's checking for them (shoot, why would they?), but I see that the Cardinal came up a point short vs. a bad Zona squad. Yikes. Might run the table in reverse after that nice opener in Honolulu.

Oh, well...at least it's always fun to embarrass Rutgers.

I feel the same way re Southern Cal. I'm trying to go back and retrace when it morphed from a safety school for privileged kids to some esteemed, borderline cream-of-the-crop-type place. That it was a T25 school for so many years kind of dinged USNWR's credibility with me (and I think generally they do a decent job with this - in the minority there, I know).

Anyway, looks like they rightly gave our fellow publics much more equitability this year. Glad to see Maryland in particular finally getting into the T50. And they're still woefully underranked, IMO.

From your mouth to the…

From your mouth to the football gods' ears. The hell with Southern Cal.

Sasha clearly downgraded,…

Sasha clearly downgraded, but hey, we never know why young people make the choices they do. Heck, I know I can say that about myself for darn sure (but not when it comes to school[s] choice!).

Congrats to Natasha! Best four years of your life on deck.

I took Hartman as something…

I took Hartman as something of a sleeper Heisman pick a couple weeks ago. Nothing that happened yesterday necessarily sways me into thinking I made a smart choice, but just by the raw stats....hey, off to a good start, I guess.

Southern Cal, per usual, looks flimsier than wet 1-ply TP. Whatever playoff hopes they have'll be dashed sooner than later. Could see ASU taking them down. And if not then, soon after they've got ND and Utah back-to-back...hide your wife, hide your kids.

Still peeved that they're joining our conference.

Always down for a quick…

Always down for a quick Vegas bend- uh, getaway.

DC is a must as a future host, especially if they indeed renovate/rebuild on RFK’s site.  I mean, it just makes sense that what’s become FBS’s national conference have a title game in the national capital.

Also - perhaps controversial, but here’s a shout out for Cleveland as another site. Beautiful city, beautiful stadium (with great sight lines), and juuuust far enough away from C*l*mb*s’s stench.

I believe Maryland's a…

I believe Maryland's a significant net positive for our conference. They bring competitive sports across the board, a smart, passionate alumni/fan base, and first-rate academics (pretty sure it's a nouveau Public Ivy). They hold their own in a market with 5 pro teams (and I'm including the successful and popular Mystics). The location, of course, goes without saying.

They, IMO, shouldn't ever be considered - if we somehow ever got to that point - as a possible relegation/removal from the B1G.

Aside from the 1st paragraph's last sentence, Rutgers brings none of that. They can go whenever.

CFB - UM

CBB - UM…

CFB - UM

CBB - UM...................and Stanford (grad alma mater, was there during the '98 FF run w/Monty, Mad Dog, Art Lee et al. Really fun time and I never quite let go of it.)

NHL: Hmm...pass.

NFL: Browns and Colts

MLB: Nats

NBA: Meh. Well, whichever teams have Wolverines in a prominent/contributory role.

I feel the exact same way…

I feel the exact same way about Southern Cal, but I guess that genie's way too far out of the bottle for us to cast them anywhere. But hey, (even) stranger things have happened...

Agree that Doeren's sell-by…

Agree that Doeren's sell-by date (at least at State) is fast approaching, but I wouldn't necessarily ding him for the bowl loss. Maryland's been trending firmly upward since late last season and I'm worried they're going to make a quantum leap this year.

Anyway, I'd add Mike Bloomgren. No, Rice isn't exactly a page 1 team, but still, 5 losing records in 5 years is bad, period. If the AAC move doesn't improve things, might be time to cut bait. I'm rooting for him; love seeing other smart schools succeed on the field/court.

Ick.

Ick.

Feels as if NW is doing its level best to help Southern Cal feel comfortable upon its entry next year.

I think they've to find…

I think they've to find their own Mike Locksley: someone, doesn't necessarily have to be an alum, of unimpeachable character who bleeds for that school (and the neighboring city) and would walk 5 miles unshod on white-hot glass to get the job. Not sure that person exists.

Much like the Baltimore…

Much like the Baltimore Ravens and unsavory/criminal behavior, malfeasance and immorality are just endemic to that "institution of higher learning".

I'd be embarrassed to be an alumnus of it.
