OSU played PSU then Michigan then the CCG in the three successive weeks. The BigTen did not do OSU any schedule favors this year.
How can anyone not think that OSU will not be motivated to play Oklahoma or Clemson on Dec 28th. It seems destiny could have OSU playing LSU in the CG Final with former OSU QB Joe Burrow going against his former teammates and a university he spent three years at and graduated from. That is the storyline of storyline that probably ESPN and most of the media probably wants. A North vs South ring to it.
Last year the NCAA made Shea Patterson immediately eligible, now this year they do it for Tate Martell at Miami and now Justin Fields at Ohio State. There may be other QBs as well as other players.
So the question is why does the NCAA do this. There are probably several reasons. One of them is that it immediately raises the value of the football product on the field. QB is THE position. It creates great hype, great fan interest, TV viewership and ratings go higher and thru the roof. If these three QBs had to sit out a year, the potential product on the field would be lacking. Instead, the NCAA chooses to pump up the fan excitement meter to the moon to see these QB's right away. The NCAA wants the best football product on the field because it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$, the hype, and the excitement that the fans want to see and pay ticket money for. Sitting out a year hurts all parties - the NCAA, the Coaches, the players & their families, TV Networks, and the fans.
BULLETIN: Most of the top southern kids are going to stay in the South with SEC options followed by ACC options where their families can go watch them play, easier to get home, more familiarity with those schools and weather preference can factor in too. Most are not worried about this education thing. Their southern alumni network can get them a job in the south if they don't make it in the NFL.
I took the time to read OSU message boards and articles. It seems all the other OSU verbal commits are glad that Meyer is back and there are solid. Alot of times, players and people rally around their Coach that they feel has been unfairly mistreated and vilified in public. Just saying that this happens. Us against the world mentality. The reality is that Meyer will probably recruit a better LB. From what I have read, the OSU players are very angry and motivated at what they believe has been a media witch hunt against their Coach for a failed marriage of an assistant. OSU has become a super motivated Team as a result. It should be one incredible football year in the B1G. So much intrigue.
For Dax Hill, would not be surprised that this is all a smokescreen to create drama and he selects home state Oklahoma Sooners. Many kids want to take their 5 official visits, have a great time on these 2-day mini-vacations, enjoy game day, etc. Every once in a while you do get a surprise but more often not. Mid-December is quite aways away.

Franklin got a contract extension at PSU to 2025 by putting rumors out that he could bolt to FSU.
