Strange how we sometimes get pleasure seeing rekindled animosity in rivalries, and other times it gets under our skin. Respect and disrespect are fickle things to discern. You’re right, I’m not sure how to feel about the “hate” we get from other Big Ten teams in comparison to Ohio State.
Very much in agreement about not being able to talk, although I’m ambivalent on the need for better non-con games. Unless somehow we could get Notre Dame back, which isn’t happening until we play a series in the 2030s (perhaps if the ACC dissolved).
I actually will get behind this assertion (adjusted to six games), within the specific context of what each game adds to the canon of Michigan football. All six games contributed to meaningful statistics.
Penn State- top ten victory (on the road)
Maryland- 1000th victory
Ohio State- undefeateds, top five matchup, East Division Championship, series lead stretched to ten games (61-51-6)
Iowa- 45th Big Ten championship to cap a trifecta, including a shutout
Alabama- Rose Bowl champions, defeating the roster with the highest BCR (blue chip ratio) ever, Saban’s final game
Washington- first national title GAME victory, first 15-0 Big Ten team ever
We’ve had more dominant stretches, but not more meaningful games. So, agreement here!
We may not have a 12-team format for very long… it appears like the ACC is on the brink despite the calm. I wonder what the low end of playoff teams will be in the future. Many people assumed two losses was it during the four team format, but 2017 Auburn was firmly in the top four until losing the SEC Championship.
