W/L Predictions for our three rivals
Really excited about this season. What better way to kill another day at work than making some random predictions? Here are my predictions for the upcoming season for UM, MSU, PSU and OSU. In the west, I like Minn, but I don't think they can win again MSU and PSU on the road.

Noticed my mistake:
MSU (8-4)
PSU (9-3)

What, in the history of human beings, would ever make you think PJ Fleck would ever be a force to be dealt with in the B1G. This is a guy who has custom inspirational shoes made on a weekly basis. This is not a guy to be taken seriously. He's an 8-5 B1G West coach, who'll float around that mean and have colorful antics, but never serious football. Sure, he'll pop an 11-2 season for every 5-7 season. But he's an 8-5 coach in the B1G division that is the equivalent of the 40-something uncle who lives in grandma's basement and has a pool table down there. He's cool enough to associate with even into your teen years, but all the adults roll their eyes whenever his name comes up and you're finally starting to get why.
August 29th, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
I think you are selling him too short. For Minn he has done well. He has his RB and QB back this year and had a good defense last year.
August 29th, 2022 at 1:55 PM ^
I'm not, because he is an 8-5 average coach in the B1G West. That's exactly what he is.
August 29th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
"... equivalent of the 40-something uncle who lives in grandma's basement and has a pool table down there ..."
Seems about right. I've seen him described (possibly by me) as a upper-middle-class Brady Hoke. He's done better than I expected but I cringed when people suggested him as a replacement for Harbaugh.
August 29th, 2022 at 1:31 PM ^
I'm sure I've said this here before, but, back when he was at my alma mater WMU, I was saying that he needed to wait out Dantonio. The Sparties would LOVE his whole schtick. I always thought it was cheesy as hell, and I'm glad he's not on a likely trajectory to coach at Michigan. But Sparta would eat that crap up.
August 29th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
One more mistake I noticed:
Michigan 12-0
OSU 11-1
FIFY
August 29th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
All our rivals will go winless while we go undefeated!
August 29th, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
They will all experience the rare "double loss" whenever they play each other!
August 29th, 2022 at 5:08 PM ^
It IS possible for Ohio State, Illinois and uh ........... who do I pick from that OOC schedule ....... let's go with Connecticut ........... to all go 0-12 this year! None of THEM play each other!
August 29th, 2022 at 12:42 PM ^
Well, I am still rooting for our biggest rival Rutgers to beat Nebraska.
August 29th, 2022 at 6:39 PM ^
I thought Illinois was our biggest rival.....
August 29th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
It will be reported on Russian state news and shall not be questioned.
August 29th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
I’m thinking Rutgers will be a win.
August 29th, 2022 at 11:58 AM ^
OSU is definitely favored against us, but I think we have confidence from last year and smell blood in the water. If we can find DEs that are half as good as Hutch and Ojabo, I think we beat them.
OSU 11-1. (They could have a slip up game too, but I'm hoping they are undefeated when we beat them.)
MSU 10-2 Losses to OSU and Michigan.
PSU 8-4 Losses to Auburn, UofM, OSU and MSU. If they beat MSU they lose to someone else.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:09 PM ^
Purdue is taking Penn State out on Thursday.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
I completely believe that Purdue or Northwestern win the B1G west
August 29th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
It's an even year, whish means Northwestern will somehow figure it out.
Nobody has gone from first to worst to first to worst to (currently) first as spectacularly as NW.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
I don't really understand the people thinking Auburn is going to beat Penn State. I suppose the home field advantage will help Auburn and I heard Phil Steele on the radio saying he really likes Auburn's Oline and Dline. But, they lost 19 players to the portal this year, and brought in 10 new players via transfer. They are turning over a huge part of their roster, trying to get a lot of newbies up to speed. The coach barely survived the off-season booster coup. They lost their DC to a lateral position (OK St.) They hired a new OC in December and he quit in January. That can't be a stable program ready to roll in September. Penn State beat them with a healthy Clifford last year and seems much more stable from a personnel standpoint. And, they're a bit higher in preseason SP+ (13th vs. 21st)
August 29th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
well, franklin is their coach so there's that
literally why i picked auburn over psu ... franklin is going to franklin the shit out that game
August 29th, 2022 at 12:46 PM ^
Franklin is batting 1.000 vs. Auburn. 2-0. Beat Auburn in 2021 and while he was at Vandy in 2012. He has Auburn's number. Can't Lose!!
August 29th, 2022 at 12:49 PM ^
found franklin's burner account
/s
August 29th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
If Nebraska wasn't going through a historically awful stretch then Frames would have a lot more heat from the national media on him.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
i'm betting ohio loses to one of psu, ws or msu...... so they end the season with 2 losses, unless they fall to their big instate rival, toledo... then it'll be three losses, but I'm saying 2.
we cough up a game we shouldn't to iowa or lil bro..... cuz that seems to be what we do... finishing as a 1 loss Big Ten Champion....repeating and stuff.
August 29th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
I could see Penn State playing above their recent trajectory and taking one from us. I don't think we fall to Iowa or Sparty. OSU is scary, but even if we don't beat them, the rivalry does feel alive. What scares me (at the moment, didn't a few days ago) is a motivated and strong ND taking one from OSU and Freeman being for real. I dunno, he just has this double birdedness that might doubly F the OSU.
August 29th, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
OSU will curb stomp ND. The thing I'll be watching in that game is the OSU defense and to see if they've improved from that sorry 2021 defense. Come to think of it, they have to improve as there's no possible way they .ca get any worse
August 31st, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
Agreed, and while everyone is curious to see what their defense will look like, I'm more interested to see what their run blocking looks like. It's true they needed to clean house on defense, but their offensive line has underperformed for a few years IMO. For all the #1 offense talk from last year, that was a team that averaged 2.1 per carry in the red zone and had a tough time getting 2-to-3 yards when they needed it. If the bad guys improve in those two areas, it could be a long day in Columbus.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
OSU - 12-0 (9-0)
PSU - 9-3 (7-2) _ Losses @Aub, @Mich, OSU
MSU - 7-5 (4-5) _ Losses @MD, OSU, Wisc, @Mich, @PSU
August 29th, 2022 at 1:03 PM ^
MD could be good offensively and with their WRs could create problems for MSU's secondary.
August 29th, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
Mass - what MSU secondary?
Oh, I see your point…
August 29th, 2022 at 4:12 PM ^
I think little bro is gonna struggle on the road and MD, as you point out, can create some issues for them. Although to be fair, it's not like MD enjoys a nice home field advantage.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
PSU 8-4: I think they lost too much from last year.
MSU: ?? They are definitely the team I’m most concerned about. Tons of highly rated high school transfers, Tucker is a good coach. If he can get them all to play together, this is a dangerous team. 9-3
OSU 12-0: Both teams have great QBs, the difference is Meyer and now Day seems to maximize whomever is under center. This was supposed to be JHs specialty but I think we lose this game because this hasn’t happened. Unless it’s ugly and wet, then game on.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
I am not convinced Tuck is a great coach at this point, but he certainly is getting paid like he is.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:47 PM ^
Mel Tucker is 2011 Brady Hoke at this point.
August 29th, 2022 at 3:25 PM ^
I'm not convinced Ryan Day is a great coach. I said the same thing in 2020/21. Nothing about the game has changed that for me. He has a great offense for sure, but I'm not sure he is The coach for them.
August 29th, 2022 at 7:21 PM ^
I hope they run Day out of town for a couple of 2 loss season and end up with their Rich Rod. They got super lucky with Meyer and then a coach in waiting.
August 29th, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
Fickell is waiting on Day returning to the NFL. He'll be the next OSU coach - a sure thing
August 31st, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^
Maybe not, but sometimes it's Jimmies and Joes.
August 29th, 2022 at 3:23 PM ^
OSU will have one loss and that will be against UM. Book it! It will be a perfect day and they still can't stop our run.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:15 PM ^
Where’s Notre dame
August 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
Think OP is only focusing on teams that Michigan plays this season.
August 29th, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
South Bend, unless it is an away game.
August 29th, 2022 at 3:25 PM ^
Ba dum, ching!
August 29th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
OSU (11-1): Defense is getting hyped to be a top 10 level but I think its going to just be mediocre year 1 under Knowles. They lose a stupid one. Hopefully to M
Sparty (8-4): I think they are a comparable strength team to last year sparty but the schedule is significantly harder resulting in a couple more losses. Also gotta think they arent as lucky in so many games
Notre Dame (9-3): Team is not good. Buchner cant throw, the Oline has a lot to improve from a down year last year and they have significant preseason injuries. But its basically a 4 game schedule between Ohio State, Clemson, BYU and USC. I think they only win 1 of those 4.
Minny: (8-4): I have no idea the big ten west is a shit show. Anyone could win at any time.
Penn State (9-3): Similar team as last year. Bit easier schedule and if they arent as unlucky they get to 9 games
August 29th, 2022 at 12:20 PM ^
UM 12-0
MSU 6-6
PSU 8-4
OSU 11-1
August 29th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
MSU is not losing 4 games. 2 tops.
August 29th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
i think most people have penn state overrated and msu underrated
i think penn state shits the bed this year. more wishing it into existence than data points to suggest im right
August 29th, 2022 at 1:18 PM ^
I think most people are rating MSU fairly. Their secondary is a major issue that will handcuff the defense. The offense will take a stop back after losing most their OL depth and a Heisman contender in Walker.
August 29th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
from your mouth to God's ears.
i'd love to see them go 6-6 or worse every year under Tucker from here on out.
August 29th, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
And then have to deal with all of the talk about their criminally overpaid coach. And watch them lose some of those prized recruits when they come back down to earth.
