Wisconsin vs. Purdue cancelled, will not be rescheduled
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
Is Northwestern really gonna win the B10 West?
2020, ya'll.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:19 PM ^
Lol you realize Northwestern has gone to the Big Ten CG more times than us right? At this point, Michigan deserves to be the punchline to these jokes, not Northwestern.
(yes I realize the B1G west is worse...)
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:31 PM ^
Oh, yes. I'm well aware.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:59 PM ^
Purdue may be in the best position. Already 2-0 with Wisconsin canceled. Rutgers and Indiana are their crossover games.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:14 PM ^
Truly a loss for the arts...
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
at least we'll get to beat someone new from the west for a change
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
NSFMF. Isn't Purdue your kryptonite? Be careful what you wish for.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:19 PM ^
Bang-up job this season is turning out to be.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
Oh please. Wiscy will be all healed up by 11/14 just in time to face a reeling 1-2 UM team which they will beat by 4 tds.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:17 PM ^
Only to pass it on to the Michigan team (hello Illinois) ? No thank you. I suggest Michigan be proactive and cancel that game. If Wisconsin is just cancelling instead of forfeiting, well M feels that Wisconsin is a health threat, thus, pound sand ya badger.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:26 PM ^
As much as I hate to say it - after Saturday, I don't think I'd mind much if we didn't finish the season.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:33 PM ^
I was A-OK with never starting it.
College football in empty stadiums is NOT college football to me. Seeing an empty Big House on TV on Saturday was just depressing...and then the game happened, too.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
Of course MSU gets an “away”game against us in an empty stadium. Good thing the B1G “fixed” the scheduling error this year ?
Can we just leave the B1G and start over somewhere else?
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:43 PM ^
But hey those cardboard cutouts were so....FUCKING STUPID LOOKING!
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:44 PM ^
True.
November 3rd, 2020 at 4:26 PM ^
My thoughts EXACTLY...before the game even started I was like MEH? and it just went down hill from there
November 3rd, 2020 at 6:10 PM ^
Which, hear me out, may ultimately help in the long run. If the season had been cancelled outright and Saturday had never happened, certain program changes might not have been forthcoming.
Always look on the bright side, gentlemen.
November 3rd, 2020 at 6:42 PM ^
I'd like to keep playing if possible. Getting these young guys live B1G game reps will be crucial to their development. We're all playing with house money. The fact that we have football at all is a bonus. These kids practice hard. Let them have a good time.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:47 PM ^
and here we are, this is so wild. Id be fine if that game with them got cancelled lol
also, didnt want to create a new thread for this, to see Michigan favored by 3.5 at Indiana is astonishing.
I dont bet online, but if I did, well I would not bet on that
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:36 PM ^
I would, my money is on Indiana.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:48 PM ^
Sucks for both teams. Not sure how the rest of Wisky's season is going to go. At least this guy is no longer around.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:51 PM ^
So really looks like Purdue is in a great spot to win the division. Already beat Iowa, don't have to play Wisconsin, Minnesota doesn't look as good as advertised, crossovers against Rutgers and Indiana. Purdue probably sees this as a good thing for their season outlook.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
This is a practice season. Folks getting mad over the msu game should remember that. This season will have a big fat asterisk next to it.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
The games count. There is no asterisk. Just failure as usual.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:38 PM ^
This sounds like the RCMB after losing to Rutger.
November 3rd, 2020 at 2:32 PM ^
i'm with you homie. i now have this perverse hope that osu goes covid-free, alabama and clemson get decimated by the wuhan plague and osu beats a newly-decimated no qb cinncinnatti for the title. i'd buy that bowl tee shirt.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:56 PM ^
I still don’t understand the people who were pushing for the season to be played. Nothing good was going to happen for Michigan this season. I mean yeah it was just kicking the can down the road but it would have been a nice break. Now the season is a total failure and Michigan is back to being a national joke.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:08 PM ^
Why not just cut the program then?
November 3rd, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
I think Michigan should either join the Ivy League for football or cut the program. I am not sure any coach could succeed at Michigan because there are too many internal obstacles. What is the point of losing to OSU every year? It is clear Harbaugh isn’t the answer but the problem is much greater than him.
November 3rd, 2020 at 2:45 PM ^
Just because two D/F level coaches and one C/C+ coach couldn't win anything here doesn't mean no one can.
November 3rd, 2020 at 4:46 PM ^
Michigan isn't an "Ivy" league school despite what many fans think. This constant claiming of doing things "the right way would seemingly put UM's football academic results in the same bucket as Stanford, ND, Northwestern, etc. Instead, it's right in line with plenty of other schools that - according to some of our fans - cheat to win (i.e. OSU). UM players are NO different academically than most other big-time teams. Thinking otherwise is just an inaccurate excuse.
BTW, UM has ranked several spots below OSU the past two years in football APR as measured by the NCAA. The only thing we're doing the "right way" is losing to MSU and getting waxed annually by OSU.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
But Wisconsin will show up in Ann Arbor with a full team, including all starters with two weeks of fully practiced game prep. Alvarez is such a sham artist.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:10 PM ^
They aren’t practicing now. All activities are suspended until further notice. Right it is less than two weeks until the game.
November 3rd, 2020 at 12:59 PM ^
It would be the ultimate troll of Nebraska if the Big Ten let Purdue schedule a non conference game this weekend to make up for this cancelled game.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:07 PM ^
As was mentioned in a thread over on Maize n Brew, a team can only back out of two games and still be eligible for the conference championship. So they either show up in A² or their season is more or less over, title-wise anyway.
QB Mertz comes off confinement on Saturday morning, so he is eligible to play without having practiced with the team for 3 weeks.
A rusty Mertz or Milton, place your bets ;o)
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:33 PM ^
Tried to pull a Rusty Mertz once in college. She wasn't havin' any of it though.
November 4th, 2020 at 12:10 AM ^
Is that similar to a Dirty Sanchez?
November 3rd, 2020 at 5:54 PM ^
How does this work, exactly? Does this count as an opt-out only for the team that made the decision (Wisconsin)? Or does this mean that Nebraska and Purdue are penalized as well and can only miss one more game this season?
November 4th, 2020 at 11:24 AM ^
Good question. Hopefully someone on the board can shed some light. The commenters over on Maize n Brew seemed to be up to speed on the the technical details.
November 5th, 2020 at 8:47 AM ^
It counts against Nebraska and Purdue. Remember, Nebraska pointing this out makes them whiners.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
Damn. Can we cancel the remaining games on the schedule?
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:34 PM ^
Good. Wisconsin's been dragging everyone down with this horrible plague.
Also, COVID-19.
November 3rd, 2020 at 1:36 PM ^
I personally believe that the non-games should be counted as a theoretical loss for Wisconsin.
If they finish undefeated at 6-0, 5-0 or whatever, that ninth game doesn't get them to the 1 vs. 1 game because they caused their own lack of play. So they would be looked at as 6-2. 5-3, etc.
Which means Purdue and Nebraska get that theoretical extra win because it wasn't their fault the Wisconsin couldn't keep their shit together.
November 3rd, 2020 at 2:25 PM ^
Unfortunately, sports is such a filthy, shameless world that this is a completely unacceptable take.
Turn COVID cancellations into forfeits and programs will Enron the fuck out of testing to ensure they're not impacted by positives. And as long as they're doing that, why have a bubble at all?
The point is to not spread the plague, thankyouverymuch.
November 3rd, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
well they DEFINITELY shouldnt be rewarded for it...that would just make things Worse...B10 Commish blew this whole season from the get go..If they hadnt wait so lagte to stgart some od these games could be resheduled...just another decision He Blew.
November 3rd, 2020 at 2:27 PM ^
Kaos!!
November 3rd, 2020 at 3:57 PM ^
I realize this is a football blog and one I’ve checked in on every day since 2011. But , honestly, only my opinion, I couldn’t care less that Wisc vs. Purdue is cancelled. The bigger question is whether Manuel has the balls to refuse to play Wisc in 11 days. Forfeit if necessary. Or will Schlissel get involved.
November 3rd, 2020 at 4:20 PM ^
This whole season is a LOST one anyways ..whoever wins will have a asterisk next to it..When we lost to MSU I barely blinked ..didnt even really get to mad..Ive becomed accustomed to dissapointment when it comes to FB...Kinda Sad Ive lost my enthusiasm...Yes Ill watch but losses dont shock me...
November 3rd, 2020 at 5:35 PM ^
Indeed our asterisk will say:
*Coached by Jim Harbaugh
the people that see that in the future will say oh it makes sense why they lost to their rivals and finished 6th in their own division.
