This is the thread for snowflakes regarding the overall coaching performance.

I'm glad the account of the game lead with a comment on the "confusing" squib kick decision that temporarily let Wisconsin off the floor and back in the game. That was bizarre.

The fourth down decisions and play calls/executions were somewhat erratic, but possibly the goal was to be somewhat unpredicatable for future opponents.

Otherwise, a great coaching job. They all came in prepared and loose. Not scared and tight. Fundamentals seemed pretty solid. The players and coaches seemed to adjust well, play confidently, and even have fun doing it. TV announcers were doing that TV announcery cliche thing of questioning the working in McCarthy in the second half, but I thought it was an excellent move. Was also good to see the third and fourth string QBs get snaps, in spite of the interception.

Was really glad to see them get the reserves in the game in such a big-time environment, on the road. Great for morale, great for the future. Glad the coaches let the players join in the jump around too. Was a great road trip, road win for the players and the program.

An A-, at the very least.

The squib kick was a horrible decision because 1/2 of Wisconsin's entire offense happened in the next 23 seconds. If you know a team is going to put up a half a days production in 20 seconds never squib. Also as stated earlier it was a 12 yard risk for a (probably) 3 point reward.

The squib made no sense given the timing. UW couldn't move the ball. Why gift them better field position based on the slim chance that they'd fumble -- they did, but what are the odds? -- rather than just boom it out of the endzone? At which pt, they probably would have knelt.

Squib makes lots of sense. I think it was a good call because of the following.

Case 1:  You squib it and get it.  Obviously, that is a good outcome.  Gives you a chance for a couple of good pass plays to score, or a 45 yard field goal.

Case 2:  You squib it and they get it.  Now, they start on their 45 have have only about 20 seconds to move it down the field and score.  Low odds a priori of this happening.

It was a horrible decision. Anybody that knows anything about Chryst knows that he would have taken that game into the locker room if they had kicked deep given his conservative coaching. Once you gave him a short field he had no choice but to push it down the field.
