Wisconsin Snowflakes - The Coaching

Here is your thread to deposit snowflakes and hot takes on the overall coaching performance in the game.

Yes, it was 21-7.  Wisconsin had the ball, 4th and 2, at the Michigan 42, with 2:30 left in the third quarter, and had just thrown an incomplete pass on a play that you only call if you intend to hand it to your all-world tailback on 4th down if necessary.  (Keep in mind that Wisconsin had 25 passing yards in the game at this point).  Punting in this situation was ridiculous, though I was elated.  (It took Michigan 3 plays to pass the spot on the field where they would have taken over possession if Wisconsin had gone for it and failed).

If most coaches still do this, it merely shows that "conventional wisdom" often isn't.

I think "conventional wisdom" sucks...I think they should have gone for it. But I do believe this decision is more of a toss up than most are saying. Clearly he was hoping to pin Michigan and hold them...hoping to get the ball back at around midfield. Just as clearly, that did not happen.

3 things I don't want to see against MSU

1.) Joe Milton

2.) Ambry Thomas and the jet sweep.

3.) Joe Milton

Nice win, but the season starts next week.  Biggest game in forever.

Also...next week, we need to be prepared to throw it 40 times.  If we can't run the ball, no gimmicks, just be creative.

I have but one regret... That we played lucky Notre Dame in our first game this  year.

Obviously need to run the table now, but would love to see them in the playoff in a 2 vs. 3 matchup....for the right to get stomped by Bama.

I had the same feeling when they first scheduled the game.  You always need one game at the beginning of the season to get the new players all on the same page.  Especially with the change from Drevno to Warinner.

Just think where we would be ranked, if we had kept Arkansas on the schedule !

Best feeling after a game in quite a few years. We’re seeing this program improve from week to week, and the outcome was no fluke. The D was always going to be high-caliber this year, but I didn’t expect them to completely dominate the best O-line in the B1G. And the big question was always the offense. What an O-line improvement so far! We’re seeing tangible player development in every position group.

While it’s possible to nitpick some of the play calling from both coaching staffs, the fact is that Michigan was not going to lose last night, come what may. Harbaugh is building a Program, and the results are accumulating. Imagine how blown away those recruits had to be with the whole game experience last night!

That was a well prepared, focused and disciplined team. The game plan made sense and was effective.  It was awesome to witness.

That was what I expected when Harbaugh took the job.

Another hidden gem in this win: 1 penalty, albeit a 15-yarder. Great to see the flags in the refs pockets, and that hopefully the penalty issues are getting cleaned up on both sides of the ball moving forward.

Couple bad play calls - but I'm giving the staff a 10 out of 10 score. Feels good to wake up Sun morning & be happy after a great win. Been awhile it feels like...!

Can we talk about Wisconsin chose to pass in three and short, which ended miserably for them.

Also it seems that switching QB or sending two QBs does not fool anyone, and Harbaugh keeps doing so. Maybe this is his childhood fantasy.

Is anyone else at the point where they just expect the second half to be superior coaching with the proper adjustments? It seems like every game we make changes in the second half and pull away or in the case of Northwestern, come out with the comeback. Don Brown does it with the defense. The offense did it as well. The second half coaching has been outstanding all season.

the milton wildcat play early in the game was a head scratcher. and no mason usage at all; despite several short yardage opportunities, some near the goal line, also boggled my mind.  but overall, they mixed up the plays a lot and the QBs legs won the day on offense.

i couldn't believe our receivers could not get open at all throughout the game against what was supposed to be an awful secondary.  don't know if it was poor route design or lack of effort.
