Who will be the DC? [edit:...✳️Now That We Know Harbaugh is Staying at Michigan]
Who will be the new DC?
--------------------
[Edit: I'm hijacking this thread because it's the most recent Harbaugh-related thread currently on the first page of the board. I'm hoping this edited headline remains visible long enough to dissuade folks from posting yet another "Harbaugh is staying!" thread over the next several hours.
I now return you to your regular programming... ]

Yesterday the Harbaughs were all purple. Today all maze.

That's a great shot. Remember watching that game and seeing what looked like John giving Jim "suggestions" during the game and Jim clearly communicating back what he thought of that. John started laughing.

What game was that? I don't remember it. They're wearing Adidas gear, so I assume 2015? I don't even remember Harbaugh coaching when we were Adidas.

Deal was struck in summer of 2015 but wasn't finalized until April 2016. Michigan starting wearing Jordan Brand August 2016, so that photo above had to be the 2015 season.

This was the 2015 game at Maryland in a monsoon if I recall.

Hopefully Foote.
Probably Clink or Elston. Or both. Jim has done some interesting things with coordinators. Remember all the years Drevno was “OC” but Jedd and Pep had way more influence on the gameday/play-calling role
February 2nd, 2022 at 11:25 PM ^
Won't be Elston. Doesn't want it right now.
Clink has co-DC already in his contract...so that's a done deal. It's a matter of who is the co-DC alongside him.
February 3rd, 2022 at 12:56 AM ^
If Macdonald was staying, there's no way he was getting demoted to co-DC just because Clink earned a new title. I think everyone understood that. If Jim brings in a big name DC, he'll be the DC and Clink will have his title, but not equal responsibility.

When was is reported Elston didn't want a promotion?
February 3rd, 2022 at 8:06 AM ^
He already got his promotion - he works for Michigan now, instead of ND...
February 3rd, 2022 at 9:09 AM ^
Because he kept getting passed over for the DC position at Notre Dame.

I have thought about this more over the last couple of days and wonder how much it applies to Gattis/Hart. It was interesting to me how many insiders were saying Hart would be in front of Gattis, and I wonder if that reflects him and Weiss having a large influence in shaping the team strategy
February 3rd, 2022 at 12:49 AM ^
Hopefully they make Hart assistant HC to groom him.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:17 AM ^
Call Hart’s title what you want. He needs to be an offense or defense coordinator before he can become a head coach. Get that experience, and the job offers will come.
February 3rd, 2022 at 8:27 AM ^
The last assistant to leave for a head coaching job was Mo Linquist. He'd never been a coordinator. Becoming a coordinator is the more common path to moving up, but it's not the only way. I think Mike Hart is closer to getting those offers now than he would be as an OC at a G5 school.
February 3rd, 2022 at 9:25 AM ^
I don't know that's true at all. Fleck wasn't a coordinator and he himself says he's just a rah rah guy. Being a good coordinator does not mean somebody will be a good head coach. We've seen that again and again. I absolutely fine with the idea of the head coach who was not a coordinator as long as he understands how to be a head coach.

Won't be Foote if Jim is staying. Foote is the proverbial favorite (or Clink/Elston is, who knows) to land the job which means he has no shot. Jim always hires a guy way out in left field. My guess anyway, since the last two weeks has literally been anyone's guess.
February 3rd, 2022 at 6:57 AM ^
IDK what the Jags are doing but if they do go ahead and hire Leftwich, Foote is supposed to be the top candidate for the DC there, so there might be a bit of a waiting game there. I also don't think that, while Foote is a big Detroit and Michigan guy, he has an incentive to leave the NFL at the moment.
February 3rd, 2022 at 7:09 AM ^
Last I heard, Leftwich is out contention for the jags job. He didn't like the GM (Baalke lol) and wanted him gone. Jags chose the GM over Leftwich and sent him packing.
Should be interesting to see what that means for the next move. Idk if he's looking at other open head coaching jobs
February 2nd, 2022 at 10:17 PM ^
My sources say that Macdonald was just kidding.
Otherwise, I like the idea of bringing Foote into the coaches' room.
