Who is the next RB after Edwards?

Submitted by Mgoczar on December 6th, 2022 at 10:40 PM

Apologies in advance since I am not following recruiting closely, but after Corum (assuming he is going pro) and Donovan Edwards, is Michigan in on any similar super star RBs for 23/24 classes? The way Michigan runs its offense, looks to me we need dynamic RB to make it all work. Thoughts/comments appreciated. Thanks.

he's one of the rare instances of a freshman RB immediately passing the eye test in terms of "he looks like he belongs out there". seems to know how to get behind blocks and just get upfield. hopefully, he develops into a higdon-like back and michigan can develop a more lightningy RB to pair him with. cabana is fast-ish, no? maybe we can dj turner him and make him faster?

Stokes after putting on 10-15 more pounds will be a very good back. There is also a good back at Cincinnati Moeller in 2024 Jordan Marshall. I know he has unofficially visited a few times already.

There's also the portal, where guys like Braeylon Allen are now hanging.  If our O-line and culture remains steady, no reason RB's won't be interested in possibly transferring to UM

Enjoy back to back Big Ten titles and a perfect regular season, especially with the crap fest that the expanded playoffs and potential dissolved divisions of the Big Ten will bring.

Can we please just enjoy this for once?

With that out of my system, think one of Cabana, Mullings, or Stokes step up. Stokes doesn’t have the vision yet but neither did Higdon when he started.

Stokes is already the fastest RB on the roster per Harbaugh and he’s only a freshman.

I’m hoping we can pull Jordan Marshall out of Ohio in 2024. His tape is super impressive. He’s like a slightly less dynamic Corum but has that ability to grind out a few extra yards and fall forward that Haskins had. Watch his tape if you haven’t

In 2023, I’m excited for Cabana. If he can remotely get close to 200 pounds, he can be a monster

Enjoy him while he's here. Who knows what the future holds. I remember when Max Martin was the next guy. High 4 star recruit who we pulled from down south, only for Mike Hart to come along and take the reigns from both him and David Underwood.(guy who was technically next in line after Chris Perry). Underwood's was more injury related, but no one saw Hart coming.

Cabana is the highest rated recruit we have committed.

Kalele Mullings goes full Hassan Haskins in 2024

…that would be awesome….

but seriously, Stokes has shown flashes and the Higdon comparison is pretty good, but a Mullings and Cabana could be viable backups in 2024 as well. And who knows what the portal might bring

Haskins was a 3* recruit, Evans was a low 4* (might have even been a 3* before Michigan offered)

I have faith in our RB recruiting and development.    Cabana has the potential to be a stud, after a red shirt year to bulk up.   Mullings, stokes, gash.... someone will step up.

Cabana is a solid RB even if I'm not sure he can be a huge usage guy.

Running back is also a position where, with this offensive line, you may be able to moneyball it a bit with transfers and some lower-rated guys who fit your system.  Not unlike what Wisconsin did in those years when they had solid guys who they could deposit 3-4 yards downfield before contact.

I trust Mike Hart (RB coach) to 1) develop CJ Stokes and 2) also coaching up incoming Cole Cabana. Since Mike returned to Michigan, all of the RB have improved their game. I have no concerns at this time about the RB future at Michigan.
