We don't have a first round pick in this year's draft on this team. That being said, Matthews is for sure going, I think Iggy and Poole are probably 50% or more to leave as well. Iggy because he's old for his class.

I think Poole is the most likely of the three to return. Teske and Simpson back, obviously.

If Michigan makes it to the Final Four this year, I bet you $1 that Teske could go in the 1st Round of the NBA Draft if he went.

It's easy to think back to how raw and clumsy he was just 1 year ago, but the guy is 7'1" and plays well above average on both offense and defense. And can actually shoot.

If a guy like Andrew Bogut was 1st overall at 7'0" with stats just a bit better than Teske, I'm sure Teske could go in the 1st round this year.....

I’ll take that bet.  Teske is a good college player and his improvement from freshman year to now has been great.  But he can’t dribble and doesn’t have any great post moves.  His offense is dependent on the pick and roll and overly athletic bigs (like Tillman, for example) can negate that.

Iggy is the most vulnerable because of his age and his value might be higher now than if he comes back. I hope everyone is back and we have a juggernaut next season.

If X pulls a Trae Young, I feel like he could go. And I feel like he could quite possibly pull a Trae Young, given his recent hot shooting.

"no demand in the NBA for players with his skill set and profile"

While the skill set and profile might not be on any teams wish list, there have been "plenty" of PGs with his skill set and profile.  Are there are a few current PGs with his skill set playing in the NBA right now.

What I see in Livers is a potential star... who seems to be the consummate teammate, and is very involved in the happiness of his teammates... and it seems that carries into his game, where he is so unselfish...  I wish Beilien would force him to shoot more, and to be more aggressive as a scorer...because my eyes tell me he is the best shooter on the team, and by a wide margin.   The dude doesn't seem to miss… I haven't seen the shooting percentage shots, but it seems nearly every shot of his swishes.

He wont go pro... but I reckon that one of Iggy and Poole, just might... If not, I can only imagine how good the team will be next year...

Matthews is gone. Why else would you honor him on senior night for? I’ll have to guess Iggy leaves too, not sure if he’s ready but also not sure he has much more left to prove. His limitations are his quickness and overall athletic ability, not sure if another year at U of M will push him up draft boards. I’d love for him back for another year though and it wouldn’t shock me if he did come back.

Iggy has to prove he can create on offense. He's a good scorer, but he either shoots off the catch or drives all the way to the basket. He's a good finisher in college, but not explosive and there has to be some doubt about how his game translates to the NBA. There's plenty of room to add to it.

No one can be sure staying will boost his stock, but he's not projected to go in the first round now.

Unless Iggy has a great NCAA, he sure isn’t going to be a first round pick.  Last list of top 60 potential draftees I saw did not have any of our guys in it.  Other than Matthews, they could all use another year of development.

Everyone, but matthews should come back unless one team really believes in iggy.  Livers needs to show a better handle to be a pro prospect.  Poole is too inconsistent against college competition to show he can be a consistent player at the next level.

I think everyone but Matthews comes back - unless we win the NCAA's.

Both Poole and Iggy have real potential for improvement, could be big stars next year and improve their draft position.

I strongly disagree with those who say they couldn't/wouldn't improve their draft position by staying in college - Beilein is a master of player development.

Iggy is 20, right? Hardly ancient. Going pro at 21 won't hurt him in the least.

That said, if a kid wants to go pro, best of luck to him.

I don't know why people start these types of threads before a big game. Why do we have to look forward already? Is the season over? Enjoy this. This team is going to make a deep run in the tournament. Be happy.

At least a couple of the guys are probably gonna do what Matthews did last year and go find out what they need to work on at the combine and come back. Poole and Livers would be my guesses.

Too soon for me.

Before the season I thought they'd be ranked this year but next year would be the monster season. I'll enjoy this monster season before I worry about next year's. A huge tourney could change the math for Iggy or Poole anyway.

I think every one of the top 6 guys has a shot to play in the league, at least for a couple years. X is the longest shot because PG is the toughest position to break into the NBA at but I'm not going to bet against that man.

Poole isn't ready. Iggy needs to learn how to drive and dish too but he's a bit closer. Who knows, but would be surprised if both returned. They look like 2nd rounders.

Michigan fans seem to thoroughly overrate our player's pro prospects right now.

Matthews is almost all but gone. As of now he's the only one. NBAdraft.net has no Michigan players in their 60 person mock. ESPN has neither Iggy or Poole in their best 60 players. Tankathon has Iggy has the 40th overall pick. A few other places has Iggy or Poole as a 2nd round pick, and no one has either as first rounders.

This is the first year that either has gotten extended playing team, they'd both still be only 21 at next years draft and have a lot to improve on. And unlike some guys like Cassius/Grant Williams, both have the ability to improve their draft position with a good year next year. Barring huge tournament performances by either both should be back.

Both will declare without an agent do the combine and come back. And the idea that anyone else like Livers or Teske is a risk to leave is really unfounded.

Matthews leaves, and Livers steps in the starting rotation for him. Castleton and DDJ will be much improved. Johns will backup Iggy and Matthews, and Jalen Wilson should get some minutes at the wing as well. Either Brooks or Nunez need a good offseason to secure that backup 2 spot otherwise they may get passed up. Davis stays because he genuinely loves it here and gets a Mark Donnal firm handshake after next season and finishes his career at a smaller school.

SeattleWolverine

March 17th, 2019 at 3:15 PM ^

Hard to see Brooks having even as much playing time as he had this year if DDJ improves and everyone is healthy.

Nunez probably will have to wait at least until after next season once Simpson is gone and DDJ moves to PG full-time plus probably Poole is gone too. Don't see him playing much next year.

Alumnus93

March 17th, 2019 at 3:18 PM ^

Brooks is a lot better than people think here...  when he plays a few minutes at a time, he plays poorly as he seems to force it... but when he plays in long stretches, he gets better and better...  I will be utterly shocked if anyone passes him.... DDJ is nowhere near being ready, despite his dribbling skills, and is a huge shooting liability.  Fact is, Brooks needs to get more minutes.

Brooks is fine, but he's had 2 years to secure a larger role as a backup and hasn't.  That isn't an indictment of him, and he absolutely earned the starts he got last year.  But Beilein clearly wasn't dying to give DDJ minutes this year but had to because there was nobody behind Simpson.

He's a fine player, but I'm not sold he's above replacement and thus I can see DDJ, with a higher upside, taking those minutes.

Iggy and Poole could both play themselves into the first round, but not this year. Probably better economic decision to come back.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Iggy left. He's way more ready than Poole.

Matthews is gone, but I think everyone else comes back unless either Poole or Iggy just absolutely blow up in the tournament and go full McGary. Simpson is coming back (hell of a college basketball player, but it’s hard for me to see a professional basketball career for him beyond overseas or G-league). Livers has to come back, and I have to imagine Teske comes back too. None of them are being talked about on draft boards.

Very real chance that the whole team, outside of Matthews, returns next year. And if they do, you’re looking at a likely preseason top-5 Final Four contender next Fall.

My guess is Iggy or Poole leaves, but probably not both. But people acting like Iggy is a BYU kid who is 24 and has 4 kids are overreaching.  He's not a given to be drafted and another year in college could do him wonders, especially if it tightens up his drives a bit.

I think a lot depends on their March run.  If someone gets hot and plays well, I could see him being mentioned in the bottom of the first round.  But at this point it would surprise me if there was massive attrition
