Who Are the Final CFP Four and In What Order

Mates,

Having an overnight to think about it, time to make our predictions.   In any normal year a #1 team that gets smoked in their own home state by 17 points doesn't just go to #4, they'd be out of the picture.  So good bye UGA unless the SEC lovefest is unbreakable.  We all want Michigan as #1, playing Cincy or even ND, but will it happen?  A good point was made that even if UGA does make it and 'Bama plays them again in the semi's, that's better than a boring re-do of the SEC title game in the finals.  Michigan being #1 with 'Bama and UGA at 2 and 3 accomplishes that and would still set up the likely match of Michigan v. SEC for all the marbles - a ratings blowout.

Anyway, good morning on this bright shiny Michigan Sunday.   Pick the 4 and the order, and Go Blue!

Looking at sports sites this morning it is pretty much unanimous among all of them that Bama will get its SEC bias bullshit and jump Michigan.

I would bet just about every cent I own that it ends up Bama, Mich, Georgia, Cinci.

On the other thread I kept seeing people say that a SEC rematch would be a horrible final for the CFP and they definitely dont want that. I disagree whole heartedly and believe that is 100% what they want and are going to attempt to make happen.

It doesn’t matter if Michigan is 1 or 2 they are playing Georgia in my opinion and Bama is playing cinci.  Here is what the committee will do IMO

alabama

michigan

georgia

cinci

MH20 reported that David Pollack was being a whiney bitch in the rankings countdown show.  Apparently ESPN agreed because they replaced him during the commercial break.

If the final is UGA and Alabama I wouldnt watch..just saw that game ..Avoiding a rematch is NOT part of the consideration and NEVER should be BUT the SEC will get SPECIAL treatment yet again

What it should be:

#1 Michigan vs #4 Cincinnati

#2 Alabama vs #3 Georgia

But we all know the committee will make it:

#1 Alabama vs #4 Cincinnati

#2 Michigan vs #3 Georgia

The committee has an opportunity to show some balls, but won't.

4) Cincinnati - At this point they should be in, but they can’t be slotted anywhere other than four.

3) Georgia - They were in no matter what, but they’re not going down to 4 because the CFP will not want a rematch in the semis.

2) Michigan. They probably should be #1, but Bama is going to get the honor because of what I mentioned above. The CFP is not going to want a semifinals rematch. Probably would not make for good ratings. Just the way it is.

1) Bama - Michigan should be #1 and the fact that they won’t be because of TV ratings is crap, but it is what it is. Michigan has a better resume, and while I won’t dispute that Bama did just whip the #1 team in the country, Michigan just did the same thing to OSU, the former #2 team in the country and Ben worse to the #13 team. Michigan has just looked better for longer, and Alabama has a worse loss. But, Bama is still going to get this slot because of TV ratings and because it’s Bama.

I'd guess they'll rank the teams based on match up, and not on where they actually stand. I think they'll line up Michigan v Georgia and Bama v Cinci. There's no way they intentionally rematch Bama and Georgia, in my estimation.

I get the reluctance to see a re-match of the SEC title game, but my question: is it worse to have it ini the semi-finals or potentially in the final game?

EDIT: nevermind, never post before morning coffee. You may all proceed and ignore this post.

In respect to the ‘rematch’ argument for Georgia-Bama …. IMO …. If the Committee puts Michigan against Georgia in round 1 and avoids the ‘rematch’, I would say the Committee likes our chances against Georgia. They ranked us ahead of MSU which they took a lot of flack for …. Just sayin.

I expect the committee to love Alabama's win yesterday enough to put them at #1.

Georgia has built-up enough cache throughout the season that one loss doesn't drop them out of it. I expect Georgia & Michigan to be the 2v3 game.

Cincinnati is #4.

Actually your bucs are the perfect case in point to illustrate this fallacy. OSU has 2 losses to top 10 teams and generally destroyed 8-4 type P5 teams otherwise, including 11 MSU.

If OSU had Georgia's schedule this year they would have been 12-0 entering Saturday, probably with a larger margin of victory. I also think they would have shown up vs Alabama. OSU doesn't deserve to be in the conversation, and neither does GA without a quality win.

Yeah, I think if things were done "right", it would be Alabama or Michigan at #1, the other one next, Cincinatti, and then...someone. However, because they probably don't want a 2 loss team in, Baylor won't get it, and Notre Dame isn't strong enough.

I think they lean hard on "losing to #3 in a neutral environment", and keep Georgia in at #3, effectively avoiding a rematch in the first rounds. Think of it like March Madness logic; they prevent conference matchups until the later rounds.

Also to your point, yes. Michigan v. SEC would kill in the ratings.

I have no doubt it'll be:

1. Alabama

2. Michigan

3. Georgia

4. Cincinnati

While I think Alabama DOES deserve #1 over Michigan based on their resume, I'm not sure Georgia deserves #3 over Cincinnati. On paper, the Bearcats have a better win (ND), and didn't get rocked last night by 3 scores.
