Who are the candidates to replace Juwan next year?

Michigan is not making the tournament this year and the team looks as bad as ever.  Who are the names to consider moving forward?

You can't fire the guy the year he's barely been on the bench for the first 9 games of the season due to heart surgery. You could just as easily argue the team is struggling right now because of Howard's absence (not that I'm arguing that, just that it could be said). At this point you have to give him one more year just out of basic fairness.

Sure, they haven't helped, but Juwan also hasn't seemingly figured out how to navigate around that or come up with a new strategy for adding talent.  For better or worse it is his job to make it work and clearly he has failed in that over the last few years.

Michigan is not serious about winning at basketball. Matter of fact they aren't serious about winning at football either but we just so happen to have a coach who is able to rise above the fuck shit.

Maybe Ono changes some things but right now we are still holding our purse strings to tight when it comes to $$$.

This is a real test for the “save us obi won” theory as it relates to Ono. There is no reason M basketball shouldn’t be a consistent tournament team and BIG contender year in and year out.
Unfortunately the downward trend is evident - let’s see how serious Ono is about making this an elite sporting institution

I am not sure it is the university holding its purse strings.  The coaches have very publicly went out looking for money and by all accounts came back with FAR less than hoped for.  The imagined money cannon just doesn’t exist. Until the university is allowed to openly pay players from the athletic department budget, Michigan will have trouble competing.

I'm pretty sure this picked up with any seriousness in only one instance:

Michigan had missed the tournament in 2015, barely made it in 2016 and were trending away from making it in 2017. In what felt like a must-win game, Michigan dropped to 4-6 in the Big Ten against a terrible Ohio State team at home, 70-66. After that game there were a lot of calls for Beilein to be fired. I remember feeling like it was probably over after the year was done because there was no way Michigan was making the tournament.

The team then went 13-3 the rest of the way, winning the Big Ten tournament and making the Sweet Sixteen.

I'm sure there were other instances of crazy people wanting him gone from the program, but that was the one time it seemed like even the level-headed portion of the fanbase was resigned to the fact that it was over.

Love JB but JB exited at the right time in terms of the landscape.  He was a developer of players.  I can't imagine him kissing ass every year to the same players and re-recruiting them.  Then having to go to the portal to find replacements.  And showering kids with cash money to come.  That seems completely unJB.

I really thought Juwan Howard would be able to recruit at a high level year in and year out. We lost 4 contributors from last season and brought in 1 freshman. Nkamhoua has been inconsistent. Tray looks like a mid-major role player. Where is the talent?

It's actually worse because even if we had the talent, we wouldn't have the coaching capable of using the talent. John B. knew how to coach and was able to maximize player potential. This staff somehow accomplishes the opposite of that. Recruiting's the least of our problems right now.

Do you even know for sure what each does? Since you're attributing juwans failures  and ineptitude to them.

We never should've hired Howard. The shit was obvi but Fandom took over.  Saddi was just fine under JB now he's brown?

Who most of this board had no idea was ass until it was too late. Now they're experts again. Shits goofy.

I think the problem is that Howard learned how to coach in the NBA. One thing that made Beilein such an amazing college coach was his focus on the fundamentals. Howard learned to coach with guys who were all the best college had to offer, and it seems he was ill prepared to develop players at this level and construct a resilient roster.

Juwan's recruiting is far from his problem.  He's brought in tons of talent.  It's getting production out of the talent and roster construction that is the issue. It's a huge issue.

This year's recruiting class was disappointing, but Nkamhoua and Love (pre admissions) were nice pulls.
