Where should we be ranked, Where will we be ranked?

Obviously the late start for the B1G hurt its collective rankings.  And while preseason and early season rankings are generally meaningless, starting at 18 seemed a bit low for UM imo, top 12-15 seemed more realistic.

Anyways, after one week, where do you think we deserve to be ranked, and where do you think we will be ranked.  I also need to point out that Notre Dame at #3 is one of the most overrated teams I have seen in recent years - I expect OSU to take over the #3 spot this week.

So, not sure how many Ess-EEE-See teams we pass, but based on talent and record, I think we deserve to pass Penn St, Florida, A&M, Cincinnati, Miami, BYU, North Carolina, SMU, Iowa State, and Oregon.

That would put us ranked #8.

I expect that we won't get the nod over Florida (SEC), and probably remain behind A&M (SEC), while possibly remaining behind big names such as Miami and Oregon.

So if I split the difference, I'm guessing we are ranked #10.

Your guesses?

Big win, but I don’t think it’s enough to jump into the top 10. Probably 13 or 14 at best is where we end up. Without me really studying the rankings and who won/lost. Beating a team ranked below you and jumping 8-10 spots is a bit much.

Let’s say they move into the top 15. That would be great. JB has a chance to grab another road win against a ranked team in a few weeks if IU takes care of business.

Michigan deserves the #10 spot.  Michigan will get the #11-#13 spot in the AP and Coaches polls.

Three teams ahead of UM lost yesterday: PSU, SMU, and ISU.  UM will certainly pass those three, and then due to the blow-out win at MN, Michigan will get a few additional spots.  UM week 2 = #11-13 in the polls.

My initial reaction is 15 (up 3) but I didn’t look to see who ahead of us lost.  My bet is PSU stays ahead of us for now.  Not saying I agree they should, but I’m betting they get the benefit of any doubt as they had the game won and farted it away with horrible clock management that can be and will be blamed on the RB instead of the clown that is Frames Janklin.

No way. They lost to a team they outran by a ratio of over 4-1, and out-gained, overall, by a ratio of 2-1. By that logic Indiana should never have even been in the game. Clifford threw at least two picks.

They’ll still be in the top 20, but it would be criminal to have Michigan still ranked behind them.

?‍♂️  I feel like PSU is always overrated and the D for UM didn’t exactly look as terrifying as they have in their best recent years.  I guess I wouldn’t be shocked if PSU drops below UM, but I would be surprised to see UM anywhere above 10.  Add in the fact that PSU couldn’t have lost by less and actually had the game won if they don’t try to pile on points to make it look better in the box score...I just won’t be surprised to see voters give them the benefit of the doubt.  Not advocating for it, just sayin’

There's a 0% chance PSU stays ahead of us.

This is a unique polling situation. Big Ten teams are being compared to teams halfway through their seasons. Their rankings will change more than other schools.

LSU won their first game and dropped from #6 to #20 after losing to Miss St. PSU will probably just hang in the the top 20. There's no way to paint a loss to Indiana as a good loss. Yes the finish was very close, but they trailed 80% of the game and they were playing Indiana.

PSU plays OH State next and at home. If PSU gets rolled, then they will make a huge fall in the rankings. The question then for PSU fans is, can Happy Valley recover after being 0 and 2 in shortened season?

My guess if PSU remains ahead of Mich this week so as to make the OH State vs PSU match up thee game to watch. It's all about the TV ratings for at least one more week. The pollsters will show mercy to PSU for one more week.

My guess is 12-14, and that'll be fair (for now). I don't think you can justify a much bigger leap, logistically. You could see UM jump: Iowa State, SMU, Florida(?), Miami (YTM), PSU, or even gameless Oregon (which would get us to 12), but not many others. I'm fine with that ranking, but mostly because our own in-season ranking doesn't matter until we get more games under our belt.

Just win. Everything will take care of itself if we just keep winning. To many years we were a paper tiger, which OSU easily pointed out. I’ll settle for an 06 type year minus the bullshit loss in Columbus.

I’m going to say 12-13. It was a great win but I don’t think it’s a win that vaults you into the top-10.  They won’t hop over Florida or A&M because SEC, they won’t overtake Cincinnati because they had a very impressive road win last night themselves.

I think Michigan overtakes BYU and Miami, both of whom won last night but neither win was impressive or worthy of moving the needle. I bet they move to 13, and Wisconsin goes to 12. Penn State going to fall hard today.

247sports predicted #10 and i think that’s about right.  early polls are always BS and this year’s early polls are unbalanced given the difference of number of games played.  i would be against any team making a greater leap having played 1 game when others have played 5 games.

I'd say we don't do better than 14 or 15. When NC State and Coastal Carolina are ranked, it's a strange year. I feel like we're a top 10-15 team but it might take a couple weeks to inch back up there.

I gotta be honest, this is a year where I truly couldn’t care less about rankings until December. I’m not gonna get upset about a couple of trivial rankings through at LEAST thanksgiving. Nobody knows shit about fuck right now, and won’t for at least a few more weeks.

Take LSU and S. Car this week. SC looked good last week and LSU got beat by an inferior team, and looked terrible doing it. This week, LSU blows the doors off SC. I would’ve given SC a good shot going into this game....nope!

15. Win over a team ranked behind us, but theoretically closely matched. I think a lack of movement is going to come from Michigan having one game played.

I normally don’t care about rankings since they seem more of a popularity contest with a little bit of tradition and a lot of SEC thrown in.  This year could prove different and interesting, especially given yesterday’s contests.

PSU isn’t going to fall as hard as we would like because ‘controversy’. M isn’t going to rocket. My valueless guess is PSU 11 and M 14.

I'll settle for #14 or 15. So what if we are a bit underrated. Just keep winning is all that matters. Starting #18 was no big deal. Our guys have arguably the toughest schedule in the conference. Ahead of us is Wisc, Penn State and OH State. Add a ranked MN team and that's half of the 8 game schedule right there.

We can collectively root for Minny to win the rest of their games so as to make our strength of schedule look even better.

Meanwhile, let's see our guys get better each game. It could be a fun ride this season.

Honestly who cares, we fall into the same trap every year where we get consumed with rankings and bitching about teams ahead of us. keep the chip on our shoulder and win out. The last thing we need is to get over confident and lose sight of winning out.  Honestly I think the game outcome was a little bit of us being better than people expected and Minnesota being worse than people anticipated.
