Where do you rank Devin Bush in your all time greats?
Was thinking today about Devin Bush , a guy at work is a Steelers fan and asked me my thoughts, and it got me thinking where I put him on my all time Michigan football players list. I think I'm putting him in my top 5 along with Woodson, Wheatley, Desmond, and Hart.
What do you think??
Outside the top 5.
Yeah, I'd put Denard, Breaston, and Braylon over him.
Breaston?? Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but if we are talking best M players ever I don't see how he even makes top 5 receivers. One of the best returners? Absolutely. I don't think he was ever the best receiver on the team at any given time, though. Again, nothing against him, he just played on teams with some stacked receiving corps.
He might not even be top 50!
Not even close to top 5. Wouldn't get offended if someone tried saying top 10. Personally, I'd put him 20-25th. A fantastic player, but not one that I would call special or once in a generation player (Woodson, Howard, etc).
Number 1
Nah, I'm being facetious. But I also don't agree with your top 5. I'd put Jake Long in my top 5 before Mike Hart (god bless his little heart).
I can definitely see that with Long over Hart
I was going to add Jake Long, and to be honest, we could probably list 5 OL alone ahead of Bush.
Bush was a great player, but top 5 all time is insane. As a defensive player alone I can't see him above Woodley, Brandon Graham, probably Marlin Jackson, Jabrill Peppers, plenty more I'm forgetting.
I don't have a problem with Long over Hart - and actually agree with that. But if your going to do Long, you sure the hell should probably have Steve Hutchinson over him, no?
Heston, Carter, Wheatley, Howard, Woodson and Harmon. That is a top 6 for you. I cannot pick 5 out of those 6 - who the hell you going to leave out? Hutchinson, Long, Edwards, Hart, Leach, Oosterbaan, Woodley, Anderson would be the next group IMO.
Not saying I disagree with you, but can you have a Michigan "All Time Great" in your top 5-10 that never beat OSU?
OP you have to be a little more clear about what the rules are on top-5. Is this all-time or players you've personally watched?
I'm just sticking with the players of the last 30 years. I know Harmon and guys like that are clearly top 5 guys.
It's his top 5, so it's people he's watched. Why would anyone have a top 5 with someone they've never seen.
1.Woodson
2. Law
3. A.C
4. Howard
5. Long
5a. Hutchinson
I would put Bush around 17.
People do all-time lists all the time and include players that were well before their time.
He’s high on my list of players since I started to care about Michigan football (late Carr era).
Devin was a guy like Rashan, who even when he wasn’t doing something impressive, he simply never messed up. The guy was rock solid and I think a much better player than Peppers.
I’d rate Devin above any defensive player that Harbaugh has had at Michigan, and possibly over every offensive player as well
I’m not here to bag on Rashan, but your statement is far from correct. Rashan would find himself out of position at least a handful of times per game. I’m not a football savant, so if I can tell you are screwing up, it’s not a good look.
Top 25
dont get me wrong - he is fabulous and probably the 2nd or 3rd best linebacker I’ve seen is field since I started watching 45+ years ago
but I mean Denard and Desmond and Tyrone Wheatley and Charles Woodson and Tom Harmon and Ron Kramer and Jon Jansen etc etc
Uhh..... Denard freaking Robinson
2
...in the Bush.
29th.
Bush, Howard, Woodson...
Those 3 are #1, a, b, c in no particular order.
What Bush did at Sparty football field, or whatever it's called, last year is permanently embezzled in my brain. Awesome!
Go Blue!
"Permanently embezzled"? Dude, the price of autocorrect is eternal vigilance.
autocorrect is sort of like enema #1!
1. Woodson
2. Denard
3. Bush
4. Hart
5. senior year Braylon
He's one of the all time greats, but how can you compare him to Woodson, Desmond, Carter, Woodley, Harris, Long, etc?
Bush was an all time great and total badass. Can't be rated, but none should, other than Charles Woodson who may actually be a god.
Devin probably isnt a top 50 ALL TIME Wolverine and he might not be inside my personal top 50 Wolverines ive seen play....been a Wolverine fan since mid 70s (born 68)
Bush is great but he isnt even a top 5 LB in school history
A few Wolverines that had better careers or more impact at Michigan
Brady.Long,Woodson,Elliot,Ford,AC.Desmond,Hart,Jamie Morris,Ian Gold,B Graham,Renes,Backus,Denard,Foote,Law,Hall,Elvis,Greise,Perry,Marquise Walker.A Train,Woodley.Donahue,Wheatley,Henne,Tripp,Marlin Jackson.Harbaugh,Jon Jansen,Chappus,Erik Anderson,Oosterban,Hutchinson,Braylon,Leach,Harmon
So what exactly is your methodology here?
Is it basically "the team won a championship during his time?"
We only really got 2 years of Bush. He was a reserve his freshman year and left early.
I don't know how you can put Bush ahead of Peppers on any list. Peppers was a Heisman finalist, a national award winner and a unanimous All-American. Michigan only has 26 of them.
I'm not looking at stats and awards or anything like that.
I responded to the question as who is/are your personal favs. I could be totally wrong, but that's what I did.
Go Blue!
I believe Peppers is the only player to be an All American at 3 different positions All Purpose,Linebacker and returner and i believe his 9 All American spots (1st 2nd 3rd and honorable mentions) is an NCAA record
https://mgoblue.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1294
I will never understand how a few Michigan fans, didnt realize how great Peppers was/is .I get it he had 1 INT .but he had as many QB pressures as Joey Bosa their JR yrs .
Probably one of the top 5 best LB of all time.
Just remember that a lot of people on this board think Denard Arm Punt is one of the greatest players of all time
Denard was one of the last offensive players at michgian who could carry an incomplete and poorly coached team to victory.
He wasn’t a great QB, but he was a great football player. The guy made Brady Hoke look like a decent coach FFS!
If he was a great football player, why isn’t he still playing legit football
Pretty shitty thing to say about the last Michigan QB to beat ohio state.
If it weren't for Denard's 337 yards of total offense that day we'd be on a 15 game losing streak against them.
Talk about exciting...you really had no idea when lightning would strike when he was in.
Somewhere between 3 and 9 sounds right.
In terms of how he impacted a game as a defensive player, I have Bush second only to Charles Woodson in the modern era. Sideline to sideline and TFLs by the bucketload. Tremendous speed, violent hitter. I'm afraid for the first part of this season at least we are going to see how good Bush was just by omission.
Woodson, Harmon, AC, Desmond, Welborne
I would only select from unanimous multi year all americans.
He is right there with the best LBs I have seen in many years of watching Michigan Football.
Same. In my extremely amateur opinion, he was UM's best middle/inside linebacker since David Harris.
I graduated in 82 and have watched live or TV every single game since. I think he’s the best linebacker at Michigan I’ve seen. I would only put Woodson and AC above him
Bush had 190 tackles1 int.0 forced fumbles,0 fumble recoveries in his career . (4 times 10+ tackles in a game),Devin last 16 games at Michigan he had 1 game 10+ tackles (12 vs Hoosiers)
Eric Anderson avg 13 tackles a game for his career had 16 (forced fumbles/fumble recoveries)
A few Michigan linebackers are in the 400-500 tackle range.some with 10-15 (forced/recovered fumbles) and my best argument is ... in todays college game offenses are running 80-100 plays every game and they are playing 13-15 games a year .These guys that had 450 tackles were playing 10-12 games and the offenses were having about 50 plays a game
Bush is great and he is fast, but hes not a top 5 linebacker
Didn't they pound the rock more often back in the day. Now you need to cover sideline to sideline while defending the pass.
Hopefully Bush can have a better NFL career than Anderson.
10 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble
I graduated in 82 and have watched live or TV every single game since. I think he’s the best linebacker at Michigan I’ve seen. I would only put Woodson and AC above him
Ian Gold and Jarret Irons deserve to be in the conversation.
I think he's better than both of those guys.
This is so tough. Without a doubt top 10 for me.
It wasn't his fault, but I need some B1G titles or OSU wins on the resume to justify top 5. But he was such an amazing player
