Wow. That was really good writing! You weren't lying!

Seth, do you ever re…

Seth, do you ever re-evaluate your scoring/conclusions based on what the team or coaches say? The example I'm talking about is Junior Colson, who was the co-DPOY named by the team and only one of two not to have a star on your chart? It's gotta be a tricky thing to decide on when your film study says one thing and the team concludes another.

Thanks for this by the way. All-time great graphic from this site in my opinion

Great write-up my man!

Great write-up my man!

You know, I've always felt weird saying "Thank you for your service" to army vets because I really have no idea about the scope of what I'm thankful for. I own a CrossFit gym where we do Hero workouts on occasions, and I'd rather suffer through Murph or Badger or Michael any day that leave everything I have here and go to a foreign country to fight (and, as pathetic as it is, miss watching Michigan football games on Saturdays). I'll never know the bravery you guys have, and I'm grateful you took time to share some of that here with us.

The thing is, I'm not sure…

The thing is, I'm not sure how much of a benefit this is to them in terms of gaining an advantage against Michigan. Do they really need Caleb Downs to help cover our receiving crew? I would figure they already have an advantage there. Now I don't know how good he is in run support, so maybe there is something to that.

I would be much more concerned with them bringing in stud OL mashers to continue closing the gap at the line of scrimmage.

Ace! Great writing man!…

Ace! Great writing man! Thank you for sharing and thank you for being willing to put yourself out here like you did. My dad and I have assigned seats too.

Still was the happiest I've ever been after a win. Even including this Rose Bowl and National Championship Game

This might be your best game…

This might be your best game column of the past three years, and that is saying a lot. Great work Brian!

Agreed. A football game…

Agreed. A football game lasts 4 hours, but all the extracurriculars we get to enjoy through this site (especially Punt/Counterpunt and Opponent Watch) make the joy last an entire season

I've always thought the FFFF…

I've always thought the FFFF chart has been a little biased towards JJ being a shield-worthy QB. But I wouldn't trade him for any other quarterback in the country. Same could be said for just about every other player on this team.

The only pushback I've had…

The only pushback I've had for Seth and Brian is the insisting on allowing the bag up front. I'm hesitant to push back because I assume you guys know more than me. But, I mean, look at that cover art.

Do we really need to pay kids up front? How many losses do you think it has cost us? How many wins do you think we got just by having our culture of players? Would you rather err on the side of paying kids up front and sacrificing culture or keeping culture and losing a kid?

I was, am, and will always…

I was, am, and will always be a RichRod fan because he brought Denard into our lives. I would have traded almost anything to get 2 more years of him coaching - regardless of record - to get to see Denard use his gifts.

Would the portal have helped? I'm sure it would have. The thing it seems to help with the most is upgrade weak spots anywhere from a half grade to a full grade. So if our second corner was a C-, it probably would have got us to a C or C+, which can make a big difference.

Hey Seth, have you tried…

Hey Seth, have you tried Google Drive? I've used that a few times to get around copyright (usually music) for my site. I know you can upload them and embed them from there - not sure if there is a limit to the number of clips or anything, but might be worth checking out if you haven't already.

Seth, I really think it's…

Seth, I really think it's time you take one for the team and put a cyan on him. Most efficient way to break out of a slump I know of.

Absolutely great writing on…

Absolutely great writing on this one Seth. I was sure you'd have included your WRDIS acronym that you used in 2021 (I believe) for JSN, Olave, Wilson and crew, but I suppose Hat Tip does the job.

Thank you again for taking the time to do these!

Fair point, I don't have any…

Fair point, I don't have any evidence of him being good or bad, just giving him the benefit of the doubt because the staff, overall, is really good. Or, at least, seems really good from an outside perspective.

The argument you made (and I've read in other posts) that we won without him showing he had no benefit is a tough conclusion to draw. We won without Corum and Morris last year.

And also, assuming other teams we play have a sign-stealing guy, him not being on the sidelines puts us behind, unless another analyst or whatever steps into that role and taking some attention away from whatever else he was doing.

We post on a Michigan…

We post on a Michigan football message board under fake or incomplete names. How are we not in the unhealthy obsession category as well? My heart was blasting through my chest the entire week leading up to The Game, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm arguing no one on here has grounds to get on anyone for being obsessed about Michigan football

I know this is an armchair…

I know this is an armchair perspective but I really think we gotta quit hating on the dude. If the NCAA does, in fact, change the rule about in-person scouting then it would be dope to hire him right back. Along with Partridge. The kid was obviously really good at what he was doing.

Didn't Don Brown coach…

Didn't Don Brown coach linebackers in addition to coordinator? If so, he's for sure Mad-Eye Moody

Tremendous (in a Lloyd Carr…

Tremendous (in a Lloyd Carr voice) insight my guy. Spotting such a revolutionary strategy of Let Them Intercept a Pass So We Can Intercept Their Pass to Gain Field Position is genius.

I enjoy reading these every week!

Hold on sir... I can live…

Hold on sir... I can live with getting negged for standing by GameDay... but assuming I like Joey Galloway?!? Can't stand him. I love GameDay for the tradition and nostalgia - even though they're killing some of it. Corso's headgear, travelling on the road, the signs, etc. Never been a fan of Galloway's commentary.

The first one was Penn State…

The first one was Penn State in 1997 right?

What was the second one from?

College GameDay has been my…

College GameDay has been my favorite tv show for years. Even though it has gotten more corporate as the years have gone on, it's still the best start to Saturdays. I don't like their coverage of us either in recent weeks, but no need to give them any more reason. Let our game do the talking.

Bottom line I was going into…

Bottom line I was going into today expecting to get an album full of bars from Andre 3000 and Jim Harbaugh in court talking to a judge about milk and fullbacks. Instead Chris Partridge got fired and 3 Stacks is playing the flute...

Fair enough. I reread my…

Fair enough. I reread my post and I guess I was praising him a bit. I do appreciate the time he put into Michigan, same with all the coaches on the staff - especially the analysts and other assistants we'll probably never hear of that do just as much work behind the scenes as the main guys. Encouraging him to promote this and play a victim card isn't the same as having empathy. I certainly have empathy for him because I've been overzealous with things before - for my business, for the sports I played, etc. - and thankfully those mistakes weren't being reported my the national media - especially a corner of it with a major bias against my organization.

I've never been a fan of…

I've never been a fan of dumping on Stalions like this. The kid is obviously hard-working and helped our football program. If anything, his actions helped expose the B1G office and other schools for being who they are and what they view of Michigan. It definitely sucks that all this stuff is going down, but no reason to be on him like this. The punishment does not seem to fit the crime.

Bacon better write a book about this shit!

This is literally the…

This is literally the craziest shit I've ever seen as a Michigan fan. I have nothing substantial to add to these comments, just felt the need to post that.

Welp, so much ESPN employing Desmond.

I think a sand volleyball…

I think a sand volleyball and basketball court help promote kids to play more than one sport, which seems to be good for football. And the nap room probably helps promote kids to rest more than they are probably used to. I have a tough time seeing them as a negative. Even bowling and golf might not be all that pampering. A slide... eh, you got a point there. But I'm sure it's easier to blow that out of perspective when they're losing than it is when they're winning.

I would kinda back Dabo on…

I would kinda back Dabo on this one. Especially in the recent string of news we've been getting from reporters who are trying to get attention. No school could realistically ask for a better coach than Dabo, and could not realistically ask for better results over the past 15ish years

I absolutely love the "Iowa is oblivious" part! And they still have the best defense in the conference year in and year out.

Very well written as usual Seth. Thank you again for putting these out here for us!

You're a good egg Seth. As a small business owner, myself, I learn a lot from hearing you (and Brian) talk about how you focus on doing what's right over the money. I appreciate you guys!

Too emotionally invested?…

Too emotionally invested? You put this link on a blog that puts out 5,000(I'm guessing) word articles detailing every single play in every single football game for free.

I surely can't speak for everyone else, but I know I am no one to talk about being too emotionally invested in Michigan Football. And I'm sure him investment has made a great impact on the players and coaches as well.

I've thought that the 2015…

I've thought that the 2015 Ohio State team was the only team on par with 2006 USC in terms of talent, even though both didn't end up winning the National Championship... but you're saying the 2019 team was even more talented? I'd definitely take your word on it, just curious.

In an Opponent Watch…

In an Opponent Watch catalogue that has the CFP's booty call, Hold This L, Nebraska's Flying Machine, and Google searching for ways Washington's OC got hired, I think the Mason Graham buttscratching adventure is the hardest I've ever laughed on this column. Maybe on this site.

I laugh literally every time…

I laugh literally every time you sneak the Sainristil vs. OSU clips in there. Good shit Seth!

Thank you for not only the…

Thank you for not only the post, Seth, but also the time you take to answer stuff in the comments. Your writing is, to me, what makes your technical analysis posts great.

I hinted at this in a previous Neck Sharpies post I think (I'm sure you get a ton of "suggestions" so just keep doing your thing!) but I would love to be able to watch a game and know where to look - especially against like Indiana or Bowling Green or whatever. Maybe a Neck Sharpies that goes something like: Here's a screenshot of the formation and the play - here's where most people's eyes are - here's where you need to look - this is how you know to look there next time this play comes up. Something like that.

Yo I thought that's what he…

Yo I thought that's what he was referring to! Big Calvin and Hobbes fan here.

Great post as usual. The Indiana "as frightening as" part had me cracking up. As well as seeing Penn State's drive chart.

I think of that game more in…

I think of that game more in terms of a team win - I think Cade was spot-on in his post-game interview.

I thought I remember the Offense UFR being more of a trip. Also sad to see the Gifycat embeds broken. Messes with a lot of great content on this site

... and also how much…

... and also how much thought you guys put into UFR scoring. Great work as always Seth!

I am really excited to have Danielson doing our games. I have always learned a lot from hearing him, and I like Nessler too.

But yeah, good writeup as usual!

Little Caesars has the best pizza. Fight me.

Within the last few years I…

Within the last few years I've heard the word "generational" used for Quinn Ewers, Bryce Young, Trevor Lawrence, and, if I remember correctly, Josh Rosen. Now, I'm not knocking you in any way, because Underwood seems like he's got all the stuff to be great. I'm just wondering how long is a generation? In my fandom (started watching in 1997 when I was 7, there have been other Bryce Youngs, Lawrences, Ewers, and Rosens. Vince Young or Tebow would be the generational one, with the nod probably going to Tebow.

Nah man, as a college…

Nah man, as a college football fan with no bias either way, I am rooting hard for Colorado! Never remember rooting for them before.

On the "Flood to Loveland"…

On the "Flood to Loveland" play, do you think a good order of progressions would be:

  1. SS
  2. W
  3. FS

The best leverage I would see off the rip on that play would be the 10 route from Cornelius Johnson with all that space inside of him. So check that the strong safety isn't dropping, then check so make sure the WLB isn't dropping either. If either of them takes up that space, then your eyes would go to the FS.

On a similar note, I think I remember you doing a segment in past Neck Sharpies where you show what the offense is going to do but not the defense, then ask us to make our reads before you dissect what actually happens. That would be cool for any future JJ passing posts.

Thank you, as always, for taking the time to share this info with us. Great stuff!

I actually laughed pretty hard at this. Thanks for sharing!
