Good luck TJ, we all believe in you!
Good luck to him. What are the odds he didn’t want to play O or D-line here, but he ends up playing it at Stony Brook anyway?
Zero?
Hmmm, I was gonna check out a Columbia game this year when Michigan plays at night... might have to change it up and drive out to Stony Brook instead.
Ummmm. OK
At first it was like "yeah!" and then I was like "poo".
Thought it was Slippery Rock for a minute.
Stony Brook?! Dang, I hope he is good with the books, because clearly the football career is not a happenin' thing.
Who is a bigger bust: Derrick Green or TJ Wheatly?
5 star RB vs a 4 star TE who had the bad luck of getting injured frequently. If you're going to call someone a bust maybe you should learn how to spell their name. Especially since his father was one of the greatest RBs to ever wear a winged helmet. It's Wheatley.
I know TJ Wheatley personally.
He is a great kid.
You're an asshole on the internet who he'd smash like a bug with his pinky finger, Matt.
.
Agreed. Injured yes. A bust, no way. Just wasn’t healthy.
Wish I had more than one upvote to give you, BlueWon.

Now that I'm old enough to be the parent of one of these athletes it really bothers me when I see/hear crap like that.
Why do I so often see comments on here that a player would physically hurt someone because they were rude to them. Yeah Wheatley is stronger than 95% of the people on this blog.....I would hope that doesn’t make him feel like he can hurt anyone. And for someone to suggest it makes me look down on you.
Way to be a douche
This makes me sad. I don't understand his thought processes.
He probably didn't want to sit out another entire year and preferred to be back east. His coaches from Canisius and/or his dad probably have a connection to someone on saff at SBU.
He was indeed 4th if not 5th on the depth chart. He was not even in the top 110 for fall camp due to injury and would not have been able to practice until school started. He is only going to play one more year even though he has 2 years of eligibilty left. He may try the NFL route after 1 year at Stony Brook.
Do you think he has a shot in the NFL? I hope he can do it, but to me it seems very difficult to make it from the FCS.
I wish him well. I don't know him but i believe everyone who says he's a great kid. His dad was certainly one of our all-time best. But his shortcomings on the field were not solely a product of injury. Even when healthy, his presence as a blocking TE was overstated. His contribution as a receiving TE was nearly non-existent. That's not dumping on him. That's simply a fair assessment of his on-field performance at UM.
Don’t know him well but I have a story about him....I was parking on the street and he just left and went out of His way to tell me he still had a hour on him meter.
Dafuq?
Not totally crazy. He avoids having to sit out 2018 by transferring to FCS. Better to be in FCS than JuCo or redshirting in FBS, and Stony Brook is a decent school. And if he graduates in Spring/Summer 2019, he could grad transfer back to FBS and be able to play in 2019.
That's awesome! I hope he has a great couple years and gets a shot at the League. Stay healthy, young man!
Tyrone Wheatley, Jr.’s stay at Michigan seems to have been cursed by high expectations due to his family pedigree, injuries and uncertainty about the position that best suited his talents.
He’s going to a good FCS program. Stony Brook was 10-3 and ranked 11th in the final FCS coaches poll last season. He still has the opportunity to get back on track towards success.
Interesting that the Stony Brook football roster lists Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. as being 6-6 and 265. I'm guessing that umbig11 might be able to provide information that contradicts those measurements.
Unfortunately, this story reminds me that for every Peyton Manning, Steph Curry and Ken Griffey, Jr., there’s at least one like Jarrett Payton, Jordan Dumars and Pete Rose, Jr. who never achieves as much success in athletics that his father achieved.
Think of how Seth Curry and Mychel Thompson must feel about being compared not only to their respective fathers, but also to their respective brothers, Steph and Klay.
Stony Brook the baseball school? Good get for them.
