WE'RE NOT GOING TO DO THIS STUPID BITCHING SHIT EVERY LOSS. WE ALREADY DID IT FOR FOOTBALL. WE ALREADY WERE DOING IT FOR HOCKEY. THEY LOST. TEAMS WILL LOSE. NOT ONE OUNCE OF COMMENTARY WILL CHANGE IT. INSTEAD ABOUT 900 IDIOTS WILL COME ON HERE AND EXPLAIN HOW THIS TEAM NEEDS TO FIX 18 THINGS IT DOESN'T. THEY. LOST. BFD. PARDON ME WHILE I GO YELL AT THE FANTASY FOOTBALL STATTRACKER BECAUSE THAT SHIT ACTUALLY MATTERS ugh. i'm so done with this "let random commenters be experts on a loss" crap after the season we had... especially when the only commentary appears to be "we don't play inside" and "bench manny harris because it was his fault."

I'm a little confused here. This is a blog that focuses on discussing Michigan athletics, especially football, basketball, and hockey. And yet you are on here with your ALL CAPS! telling us that we are stupid for having a thread about back-to-back losses to unranked opponents by our 15th ranked MICHIGAN basketball team? Now, I personally thought we were a little overrated to start the season, but the past two losses are definitely a cause for some concern and discussion. I don't see anyone on this board pretending to be an expert or have all the answers. I just don't see what's wrong with this thread. Honestly, when you log onto this site, what do you hope to read about? Do all of us a favor and just go to espn.com next time you want to rant for no reason.

The shooting was horrendous this weekend. Shot under 40% from the field and around 20% from 3. This team wont win many games that way. I also thought our perimeter defense, especially on the ball was poor. Beilein has to find some way to sure up the 1-3-1. Peedi is probably getting a few too many minutes and Gibson needs to play more. Bottom line this team just isn't playing well, but I would rather play our best basketball in March than November, still need to win some of these games so we play meaningful games in March.

they can't shoot 3s and their opponents shoot a high % of their 3s. i would be a happy man if sims and harris don't shoot another 3 the rest of the year.

Three pointers aren't dropping. We need to start hitting them if we want to win. 15-18% is not going to get us anywhere when we take this many. You can try to blame this loss on Harris's ill-advised triple at the end, but we missed way too many opportunities to put the game away. Also, we still have no inside presence on D, which isn't a surprise, it's just a fact.

your freshman point guard drive the length of the court as the final play is a good place to start. Not blocking people out is another. Two losses at this tourney is disappointing, but hopefully it shows them that being the hunted is no picnic.

And since we get out-rebounded all the time, we end up on the losing end. Too small on defense, too. When the 3s start dropping, we'll start winning.

But I'd have to say we might have to temper our expectations for this team. As I told a friend after we were swept by State in hockey a couple of weeks back, I still have more confidence in the hockey team finishing strong than the hoops team. Not sure why, but I do. I still think we'll make the tourney in hoops, but I expect the hockey team to make the Frozen Four - even with the slow start.

It doesn't help when we go 6-25 from 3 (24%) and Bama goes 8-17 (47%). The really frustrating thing about this game was the poor shot choice by Manny on our 2nd to last possession. That was not what I was expecting to happen at all. I cringed in fear as soon as that ball left his hands.

"It doesn't help when we go 6-25 from 3 (24%) and Bama goes 8-17 (47%)" Contrary to the explanations Mirasola and several others have given, poor shooting is not an explanation for why we lost. 24% vs 47% is not an explanation. In this game, lower percentages, coupled with a few other stats, are one and the same with losing. One is not an explanation for the other. Comparisons of percentages are not much more of a help than the statement above that we lost because we scored fewer points. The question is why was our percentage lower? (and the answer is not that we missed more shots). They key is to get our heads out of the numbers, out of the obvious, and look to underlying reasons, like talent, coaching, newness of system, player experience, etc.

I think in this situation the numbers are all you need if you watched the game. The 3s just aren't falling right now. For the most part the low 3pt % is simply due to open looks not falling. It's not like all of these 3s are forced w/ a hand in the face. Most of them are coming w/in the offense, but they just aren't falling. When you are a POT it is difficult to get away w/ 20-30% 3pt shooting.

It looks to me like they don't have enough patience on offense or enough urgency on defense. If they don't get a turnover, they seem to take the rest of the possession off sometimes. They need to move the ball around a little more sometimes on offense and make the other team expend more energy on their defensive end. This team will be fine as the year goes on. They have about a month to get things straightened out. I have a feeling that once Darius Morris gains some experience, he will be a great player. Presently, he seems to be in the process of finding his game, but should be OK by the time the Big Ten schedule starts. Anyway, I'm not scared yet. I still think this team is plenty good enough to make it to the tourament, where anything can and usually does happen.

Whether shooting the ball well or not, Bama was a team we shouldve beaten. They really out-hustled and out-executed us for the last 15 min of the game. I'm very worried, at this point we can't seem to stop anyone on defense, and on offense the only player that can score is Manny. Really sucks watching Peedi get dominated down low by not so big guys.

UM is lucky to have Manny Harris returning this year and people who likely didn't watch the game want to bench him. Other than an ill-time jumper from behind the arc (at worst only a problem because it left 34 on the clock and no time to get the ball back and gives Bama last shot) he was the only damn reason UM was in the game. Manny Harris is not the problem. Please explain to me how this needs to be benched: 7-17 FG - 26 points, 1-6 3 pt, 11-13 free throws, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals, 3 turnovers Don't bench the player who constantly looked to the bench when he was struggling, missing dunks, traveling and playing poor defense. Don't bench the other starting three who combined for 13 points. Bench Manny! ufhufbuerbfurbf Oh i've gone and punched myself in the face again out of the sheer stupidity. Damn you MGoBoard.

I made sure that was the first sentence so even the most dyslexic folks could figure out I was kidding.. But I guess I did not count on you.... But I did edit this one to make sure you knew that there is no way I would ever suggest benching Manny in real life.. I am not an idiot....Because it was not clear for you, I want to make sure you know....I made that reference to "benching Manny" in jest to suggest that it got Michigan back on track...which is what UM needs.. not to actually suggest we bench the best player on the floor...

I hope we're not the Ole Miss of Basketball.... great premier player (Snead / M. Harris) with a lot of pre-season buzz that just turns out to be an above average team that is no real threat. It's time to wake up... I think we have the coach to make sure these guys learn from this huge let-down

We have very little inside presence right now and it's making us over-reliant on the perimeter. I think we should start playing Sims and Gibson at the same time. We're getting dominated inside. Gibson has to be a little frustrated right now. He's playing the best ball of his career but he's always benched in crunch time. Sims can't do it alone.

They are not athletic enough of the defensive side of the ball. They give up too many points in the paint. I felt we were coming into the season a little overrated because I think just like in football the defense will be the weakness and paint will be the equivalent of the secondary. We could use another ball handler as well. On a side note I love vongrich!

It's a good sign for Michigan basketball when fans are upset when the team doesn't win. It's a long season and there will be ups and downs, just ask Sparty. That being said, with our schedule we'll have to play well to keep our record over .500 at the end of the nonconference part of the schedule, and you know the Big Ten season is going to be a battle almost every night. A win here would have been nice but I'll bet this team picks up one or two wins later in the season that we might not expect.

Freshmen are handling the ball in the last five seconds of a tied game =( couldn't we have got it over mid court and took another time out to set something up?

Belien was fuming at the end of that one. Whatever Belien wanted in those last 5 seconds Morris did not provide. I don't think Morris followed directions. God I wish Stu would be more assertive, he has another gear and he needs to start using it. Douglass has the best vision on the team and his handle is getting better, needs to let it go. Last inbound should have gone to Harris or Stu IMHO.
