Thanks Brian agree on all fronts. God I miss Belein.
hoping Jordan Acker and other regents read this and pressure Warde as mediocrity sucks vs. the standout teams we have had in football/basketball over the past 10 years
Thanks for sharing Jordan. What a privilege you had being able to work with such an amazing man. I can only imagine all what you learned from him.
Also appreciate your continued fight on behalf of student athletes. Most folks don't understand how hard it is for them, without a ton of promise for long-term success given what they sacrifice. Even with NIL they are very much treated as 'tools' or a 'means to an end' as opposed to integral partners in a major business venture.
I'm hoping you and others can ultimately galvanize us to a place where revenue sharing becomes real through a collective bargaining agreement. This will ultimately help UM in the long run as I know we have the resources to fairly support/compensate our student athletes if there is a framework in place that allows it.
My bigger question is when does sportsmanship cover not conducting 3rd party investigations of your rivals?
I believe 2 things should happen:
1. if UM has proof that Stallions was on the sideline at CMU, fire him and suspend JH a game for lack of oversight. Pay a fine.
2. if there is proof that Day hired a PI firm and went around the Big Ten and NCAA (instead of reporting it to them and using normal channels) he should also be punished by Pettiti as this is also not in the spirit of sportsmanship.
both coaches suspended and fined, case closed no questions asked and everyone else can wait for the NCAA to come out with their read
In the WSJ they had said the Firm had proof that several coaches had access to said drive. That information wouldn’t just come from downloaded files being shared
How about a step back looking at the forest from the trees on Football. For example, reflecting on the prior 3-5 years in B1G and projecting out what to expect in the coming 3-5 years. Identify some meta trends and how well M and others are adapting to them
Pretty confused why all these Iowa fans think they have an upper hand in this game somehow. Just grasping at straws because we've played them close and have lost to them in the past
Offensively I think one key is for us to get our speed players, e.g., Henning, Edwards, Corum (if healthy) in space on the edges, combined with the excellent blocking we have been seeing from the TEs and wideouts. Iowa is disciplined but doesn't have the athletes to track these folks down if they have room to get rolling downhill. Haskins also has a chance to solidify his manballness by blowing over some Iowa LBs
Was the D really an issue? Based on the box score it looks like it was an up tempo game and our O came it around or even blow 1 PPP...that really never happened under Belein since his early years
The transition this year was botched in my opinion--they should have taken the base offense from last year and made minor tweaks bit by bit as the season progressed instead of a total overhaul. Warriner really is the one who deserves a lot of the credit. We saw a step change at the same time last season
All starts with the M run game, and ability to make it 6v6 or 7v7 with QB as a threat. If M can get going downhill then play action will open up some wide open guys over the top for big plays. Patterson has to lean towards keeping first in this game when in doubt if we want to win. Really hoping he’s willing to take the chances to step up and convert some big runs early and often
If I’m PSU I’m scripting my first two drives as fast tempo with a lot of quick short passes against Gray, zone stretches and IZ. Illinois uncovered the script for success against this D, let’s see if Franklin and crew have the brains to pick up on it.
Lloyd / Tressell ball is probably the best option for us at this point. We should play better teams like MSU played us - have enough to scheme out 2-3 scores and otherwise play conservative and mistake free and lean on the D. Force the other team to be mistake free against havoc and if they can do it hats off to them.
But I do think they are trying to tread water with what they've got. As we saw the alternative is not enticing. Can we point at recruiting? For sure. But is O line something that takes more than 2 years to build out? Yea...
MSU is also young but they executed on their one drive and didn't make mistakes on other drives. Should we have played give up and punt in the rain storm? I think so. But don't tell me we shouldn't have won that game, it was as poorly executed by the offensive players as one could possibly imagine
His fire is targeted at the game and the way it's supposed to be respected and rarely at the players. Yelling harder is not going to make them execute better in my opinion. Outside of lack of execution what really could have Harbaugh been upset about?
Look I'm not going to go out there claiming this coaching staff has been perfect. But the players are atrocious on offense and have mostly been all year. I think Harbaugh is as frustrated as we all are in terms of lack of execution?
What is Harbs supposed to do about the turnstile at RT? How loud can he yell at the RBs to hold onto the ball with both hands just as we are building momentum? How about finding the right blitzer to block or not holding when your guy isn't even a threat to get to the QB? The RBs alone resulted in at least a 14 PT swing on two plays.
The plays were more than there for the taking last night, and regardless of the terrible play calling in the rain storm the players didn't execute when they needed to. Harbs will bring back the fire when he has a team that has done enough reps and can execute. No reason to get fired up when McDoom is dropping bunnies...
Probably would have been worth talking to some of your customers before making such a move. I understand your need to make ad revenue but worst case you could have bought the app or vastly improved the native one. Honestly the user experience has been significantly downgraded here and it's probably going to lead to less page views overall as angry customers will avoid coming on the computer browser as well now. You guys have by far the best content out there but at the end of the day we have seen the best products in the world fail when they try to make rules for the customer. Don't be Blockbuster.
P.S. add me to the list who are willing to pay $10 for the HD app or even $2-4/month for an ad free subscription.
I don't see why the type of punter really matters that much, it's more about your ability to cover the return. Hopefully the MSU disaster isn't driving them towards this terrible decision
I'd be surprised if Ross admits Raulerson to the MBA program - never heard of anyone (in recent history) getting in with less than 2 years of post-undergraduate work experience
Using Hoke and Brandon is not the best example - why would they agree to anything but their full buyout? At that point M had no leverage and they had nothing to lose. On the other hand, Harbaugh can avoid all the trade stuff and negotiated buyout by agreeing (and vice versa for the 49ers).
I'm pretty sure the 49ers can part ways with him and build in restrictions into any sort of agreement they sign when this occurs. Part of this agreement will likely involve foregoing the buyout as well as him being able to coach in the NFL (or at least the NFC) for X number of years.
The offense is still finding its way, mostly due to the youth involved and new players taking on the "load" (Irvin still getting used to handling the ball a lot). Spike is stepping up huge being the primary ball handler against pressure teams. Our shooting will come around by midseason once the offense is working more flawlessly.
The biggest improvement this year is on perimeter defense. We shut down two solid penetrating guards the last two games (although Ennis was hot from outside). Caris, Irvin and even Spike are solid at limiting penetration without giving up open 3s. Our rebounding also looks somewhat improved, as we came back down and only allowed 8 OR tonight.
Tough game but early returns are encouraging. No doubt this team will be in it for the run at a Big Ten title.
I think one thing that did upset people with some former players' comments is that sport is important for this University, but it's not everything. There are students and alumni who work just as hard as the SAs to further the sciences, arts, Michigan community, etc. and it's hard to argue that their contributions are any less than yours.
I admire your commitment to the University and thank you for that. I think it's important however to keep in mind that we are in this together and 99.99% of us will not be professional athletes or big donors, but can still have a positive impact on the university, muggle or not.

This might be semantics, but I don't think Hoke is a quitter. He's (sadly) calling the game the same way in the 1st quarter as he is in the 4th quarter. He's like the worst movie version of artificial intelligence. He doesn't learn from the past, he doesn't integrate new information into his plans, he isn't becoming sentient, and he sure as hell isn't turning the world's electronics against the humans.

I was thinking during the game that Hoke was acting a lot like the AI in a Madden '07 game. The punt is a perfect example. So is his weird decision to start running the hurry up with 10 min left in the 4th, but not earlier even when we were down 3+ TDs. I could also probably say his lack of timeouts at the end of the 2nd quarter as well. And most of all, what we saw on the football field - that Madden AI was easy to beat most of the time.
we didn't have a team full of buffoons putting stakes in the field and a coach who can't even make easy decisions about clock management, etc.
Michigan State planted their flag in ND's field in 2005 and everyone was like what a bunch of idiots, typical Sparty. Now we are them. At least when they did it, it was after they had won.
Sure this guy looks pretty awesome, but without somebody else to compare him to it is hard to know for sure I would vote for him. Can somebody give me a run down of what's happening? If you're wondering, yes I am a Michigan voter.
One thing I like here is this:
"Michael Taylor is a fifth-year quarterback. He's the leader of our team. Hell's afire, we send him out there with a bad arm. If Michael's healthy, you'll see a difference."
I think the point is, when you have Gardner why was Shane ever in the game in the first place?
For those that go, can we please focus on Brandon and not seem like a petty group who wants to win more? Also, structured and concise arguments go a lot further than rambling emotional rants!

This is laughable. In addition to the other suits they are dealing with they are toying around with a suit on Freedom of Speech? Good luck with that
Wait we are getting excited about the guy who was a mid DC at Indiana? Honestly this KC coach is way better

Yup and the judge specifically said 10%
I’m not arguing whether they had access or not. What I’m saying is the PI firm can’t discern that information with just downloaded files
I agree and while the one game suspension is not based on precedent it sends a strong message about not breaking the rule
re: McElwain if he’s a pure victim no forget it. If he knew, he should get punished

Let's see if they can make a step change this Saturday, it will be a good opportunity on the road against a team with a half-pulse. Hoping to see:
It's either going to happen in the next couple of weeks or it's going to be a slog
Feels like a poor man’s Maryland...think this is a 10 pt win but will be annoying from minutes 15-5 in second half

I think you take the easy bucket there. Not many players that will make that clean block in that situation...

I hope part III is more inspiring...
That was a pivotal loss. Those are the games you have to win if you want to get to the playoffs in the NFL
Amazing play by Watkins, that couldve been 6 the other way...
Can we create some big ass signs for people to march around with and spread the message near Gate 10?
