What will it take to get you enthusiastic about this season?

There seems to be a general malaise on the board surrounding this upcoming football season. Something as innocuous as camp helmet stickers, and the first practice video are generating extreme levels of snark. Despite my username, I lean towards the optimistic in virtually all aspects of my life. It is no different with Michigan Football. I'm like Harbaugh, I've had the dream and I'm revved up for the season. It's a new year, some new players, some new coaches, and it's MICHIGAN FOOTBALL!

If I didn't give up after suffering through the RichRod years, I'm definitely not losing enthusiasm after the most abnormal year (football and everything else) in our lifetimes. Last year was quite rough, the losses to OSU have been unnerving, the lack of reaching our lofty expectations of the Harbaugh era have been demoralizing. But, I love this university, and because of that I love this football program. It's a new year! In the immortal words of Bob Marley - "Lively up yourself, and don't be no drag"!

What do you need to get enthusiastic other than football season and MICHIGAN?!

I’m still waiting for the year where they overachieve. I’m hopeful every year that it’ll be possible. This team could do it. That being said I don’t get excited for much in life let alone Michigan football. Now next years hockey team I’m at half chub for.

I am in full "show me" mode. My enthusiasm for this year's Michigan season is unequivocally tempered by the last four seasons. Any preseason hype is insane-laughable. I believe this is a talented roster but the margin for error is razor thin...and there is nothing about this coaching that predicts it will be able to mitigate enough flaws.

I wish them the best. "GO BLUE!!!" is the best I can do...I truly wish them well.

Winning at Wisconsin, which we haven't done since 2001.

Which is second to the last time we won at Ohio State in 2000.

I remember getting my haircut the monday after the Min. game last year after UM won and we were discussing the game and I told him something along the lines of "man I'm glad they won but it just doesn't look right". I had no clue it would go that bad but I had a weirdly bad feeling after that game. It's pretty much the same feeling I've had since 2018 ended.

That said, I'd literally just need to see them coherently execute. That's it. Watching Michigan feels like watching the Raiders. Random nonsense on the field, disinterested players who are undisciplined (which falls more on the coaches in college vs the NFL).

I'll know after the first game. I'm also not referring to general mistakes...those things happen.

Coherent execution with enthusiasm and I'll be more into it.

100K people back in the stadium and the government not shutting everything down again.

already we have people walking around in masks again and driving alone in their cars with masks on.

shouldn't be long before they take our freedom away again

I would honestly just like to see them play with some enthusiasm, effort and attitude. Even if they play their ass off and lose - I would love to see that out of this team.

An end to the Bo worship both on and off the field.

Using offense for it's intended purpose, scoring points, rather than as a prop for our defense.

i think we are in for another mediocre season unless the offense can consistently score a lot of points. the talent is there.

i really think 2022 is the year for the big jump; much like i felt in 2016.

I'd like to see Speed in Space instead of Stuck in Mud on offense, and ANYTHING resembling a capable front seven.  Beat Washington and Wisconsin and I will be impressed.

Step 1- a win over Washington. That will jump start my enthusiasm.

Step 2- an unlikely win at Wisconsin. That means that this team could be for real.

Step 3- wins over State, NW and yes, Rutgers (big win)

Step 4- win at Penn State. By then, this team will be for real and I'm all in.

Good luck team and Go Blue!

My current enthusiasm level is a baseline enthusiasm based only on the fact that I like watching Michigan football games.  But, I have no real hope for a successful season. Until there's something that would suggest better results than the prior couple of years, I can't muster any additional enthusiasm based on any hope for or expectation of success.

I want to see a coaching staff that utilizes the talents of the players to the best of their abilities, and players to be put in the best situations to win.  That hasn't happened in a long time.  I want to see quarterback play that is at least competent and can go through reads and progressions.  If we can do that, I will be happy with wins or losses as long as we are getting significantly better.  The shit show of the last couple of years has lead me to miss games that I would have never done, even in the Rich Rod era.  After the loss to MSU, I checked out and did not give one F over what happened the rest of the season.  That has literally never happened in my entire Michigan Football fandom of over 40 years.

Im enthusiastic but have zero expectations..either good or bad. More so enthusiastic just to watch football at 9am with my kids, having some breakfast and a bloody mary.

Which is good for me I guess?  Usually Im like "yaup this is the year" but that bone is not in my body anymore.

Go out, play hard, play for each other, look freakin organized for GD sake, and see what happens.

The biggest thing for me is the organization. We could have a 8-4 this season and take Ls to all the games we thought we would lose...but if you look organized and know whats going on in the game (ie 2 min drill), it wont be as bad of a feeling after those Ls.

Do that and that will lead to high enthusiasm for 2022

Win the first two games convincingly, and I start to feel hopeful.

The first five, and I am getting dangerously hopeful.

Take care of Sparty and the others up trough Indiana, and the season is feeling like a pleasant surprise.

Then comes prove it time. (at Maryland can be so tough, I know)

I think it derails at step one or two though.
