Sometimes they run late and the article doesn't come out until Tuesday. So my guess is they are just running late this week.

Too depressing for them

For some odd reason taking a deep dive into Michigan's latest game isnt as much fun for OSU writers and their fans as it once was.
I wonder why.

On a similar but opposite note: I fully expect to (finally) get a full season's worth of UFRs from Brian and Co. this year.

not the most fun Michigan Monday he's ever written, but if you recall, yesterday was full of bombshells (Sark out at USC, Spurrier out at USC, etc.).

not sure if serious?

The dude was a villain on par with Hitler and Pol Pot. He enslaved and eventually exterminated the native Arawak population, he sexually molested young girls, and committed a litany of other human rights atrocities. His greatest "accomplishment," the so-called "discovery" of the Americas, is intelligible only from a purely Eurocentric viewpoint. So yeah, the question of why Columbus Day continues to be celebrated in this country is a pretty good one.
In Seattle, we no longer have Columbus Day; it has been replaced with Indigenous Peoples Day, which is pretty damn awesome--though my personal preference would have been to replace Columbus Day with the first two days of the NCAA tournament.

Replace it with Ann Arbor Day would be my preference.

give your house to a Native American tribe and move back to whatever country you or your ancestors came from.
October 13th, 2015 at 3:14 PM ^
Columbus did a lot of despicable things. If you are of Native American ancestry, you certainly are entitled to despise the man. But if you are part of the 99% of the population whose ancestors came from elsewhere . . . it's more complicated. Columbus's 1492 voyage set in motion the train of events that eventually led to the founding of the United States. If that voyage had failed, our country might not exist.
I do think it's good though that we do acknowledge the devastating effects that the Columbian voyages had on the indigenous peoples of the Americas - it's a credit to our society that we are capable of that kind of introspection. Recently, the Turkish president, Erdogan, openly celebrated the 1453 conquest of Constantinople, without any sort of acknowledgement that this might not have been a happy event for the people of that city at the time.

Oh, I agree, the guy was a product of his time, but also a monster. I recall he punished those who refused to pay tribute in gold by cutting off a hand and forcing them to wear the hand around their neck, as a warning to the others. The "DUCK!" comment was because somehow, many still view him as a hero. It's mind-boggling...

Same with Thomas Edison (in a less barbaric sense). Nice to see Nikola Tesla finally getting the credit he deserves.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:25 PM ^
Less barbaric? Didn't Edison publicly electrocute an entire herd of circus animals publicly to "prove" the dangers of alternating current? :-D

Fomo, just so you know, I wasn't responding to you but to the poster who asked "uh, not sure if serious" in response to XtraMelanin's statement that he wonders why Columbus Day is still celebrated.
October 13th, 2015 at 2:17 PM ^
see joeyb's diagram a couple of posts below these. no wonder our country is off course - we don't our history worth squat, so we don't know where we've been. (non political statement disclaimer. if you perceived it as political, you are wrong and a bad person. so there)
EDIT: crazy placement of this one by the machine - should be up about 6 posts. go figure.

Columbus did land in what is now the United States, and USA =/= America.

Based on this quote, I'd say the defense has converted the writer...
"I've said in the past that the defense is doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing, but that's not true. They're doing better than they should be doing. They have allowed 14 points in their five wins and shut out three straight opponents. That's ridiculous."

By the time The Game roles around, it will probably be called Michigan Friday
October 13th, 2015 at 2:14 PM ^
"Honestly, this team has more tight ends and fullbacks than an AFL reunion. I imagine half the team hanging out at a Kansas City VFW smoking cigarettes and drinking Busch while playing poker and listening to Conway Twitty on the jukebox."
Laughed out loud at that one.
