What Corner do the Lions grab, and do they spend both picks on a corner?
I know i was in awe of Devon Witherspoon when i saw him play and would love for the Lions to grab him, but i am unfamiliar with Gonzalez of Oregon. If Gonzalez is just all speed and no substance i hope the Lions do not look at his workout numbers and draft him based on upside. They really need someone who is a sure thing IMO.
Also, Okukah has not impressed me at all. Do the Lions take 2 corners?
Maybe the word you're looking for is "realistic". Lions fans should remain realistic. Be happy if things go well, and have some sense of reality when anything "Lions" is involved.
If I needed direction to find words then landing on realistic wouldn't be the worst choice.
Realistically, I enjoyed the last half of last season and the actual coaching decisions being made (and that may be the biggest shock to actually say for the length of my hometown fandom) and rooting for the improving young players and hoping to see a third straight plus draft.
The positioning to get the extra picks also is a positive. Time will tell but the league buzz the last half of last season I have not seen in my lifetime. Comments about people not wanting any part of playing the Lions are not words used much over time. Recall an extremely badly officiated Rams game is all that kept the Lions from a playoff game.
This.
I get the hate, I drank the hatorade for the better part of multiple decades.
But if you can't come away feeling very optimistic about the trajectory of the Lions based off recent and current evidence, I feel you can't be saved.
Instead of drafting a corner, wonder the boards opinion is of trading for Ramsey. I would hate to give up the 18 pick for him but would strongly consider giving up 2 2nd round picks. At 6 you can then add a Dline piece to complement Hutch (or trade back if right offer is there) and go BPA approach at 18.
I'd do it if he's willing to restructure his deal.
I thought the Lions only drafted wide receivers. Has something changed?
/s
I know we joke, but until last year (Jameson Williams), the Lions hadn't drafted a WR in the 1st round since Megatron.
Has something changed?
Now they draft TEs instead! Over that span (2008-2021) they drafted three TEs in the 1st round, which is even more facepalm inducing than going for WRs...
This regime doesn value TEs as highly as previous ones did. They traded Hock leaving them with a fourth rounder and UDFA as their TEs. Production didn’t really suffer.
Gonzalez is a workout warrior. Witherspoon is a gamer. Choose wisely.
I'm curious to see if the Lions swing a deal for Ramsey. Even at 29, he could have a huge stabilizing effect on the entire back end.
It will cost at least the 18th pick, but I'd do it if Rogers returns to GB.
I know this is ancient history before most MGoBloggers were born, but the word at the time was that the Lions drafted Andre Ware largely on the basis of personal physical workouts he did with the Lions. That worked out swell.
Stabilizing the back end isn't where its at.
I prefer backfields in motion myself.
The Lions need to draft a CB if he’s there when they pick, I rather have Witherspoon than Gonzo all day.
Either trade or let Okudah go, he’s not very good at all.
Witherspoon is my first choice, and I believe he's worthy of the #6 pick. That said, I'd love to see a trade to eight or nine and still get him there.
We need to get two CBs from the draft, and I'm fine taking two early. If we get Witherspoon with the first pick and Gonzalez or Porter are there at 18, I'd give that strong consideration (depending on who else is available).
This corner class is loaded, so we don't need to press in round one. Stevenson, Forbes, and Williams are all potential #1 CBs and there are plenty of later options too including DJ Turner, Jakorian Bennett, Clark Phillips III, Starling Thomas, and even Riley Moss (depending on his testing numbers).
Brian Branch could be worth reshuffling for, especially if we trade down then trade back up. I also love Sydney Brown, Jammie Robinson, and Jordan Battle at safety. Ronnie Hickman a little later.
Wouldn't mind getting Kancey, Bresee, or Mazi at DT.
I'd like to see the Lions get CB (2), S, TE, DT, LB, RB, QB, and maybe a WR (and there is plenty of talent at WR late).
Stetson Bennett at 198 works for me.
I think they have to draft a CB for sure. If they don't upgrade the LB position in free agency, that's the next place I look.
I hope the Lions can be players in free agency this year. They should have some nice cap space with all the rookie deals on the roster. That may change the draft outlook a bit.
Lions are building through the draft. Anyone expecting more than mid tier free agents is going to be disappointed.
I hear you on Witherspoon. All I know is I flew up for the game, my buddy and I froze are asses off watching a competitive Wolverine victory, and we kept saying "who the EFF is this #31?!"
