columns I have read in a long time. That was Rob Parker-esque, the only difference being that this writer didn't ask for a black coach to be hired.

is horrendous. The commenters had it right, not a single coherent thought. This comment in particular 'The players don't seem to like his style. The alumni hasn't warmed up to him. The administrators who hired him -and who could fire him -were unhappy they were going to have to be deposed in his legal dispute with West Virginia University.' shows that the author is basing this entirely off of his own wishful thinking. I feel like the alumni are definitely warming up to RR and I'm pretty sure it was the admin who wanted to fight the buyout. Let's hope we get a few wins so we can stop reading garbage like this.

...right. They hate the Big House BBQ's, they hate the camps, and the 30 guys who voluntarily signed scholarships to attend Michigan since Rich Rod showed up sure don't like his style. Not to mention the walk-ons. What a horrendous article. He deserves to be flamed WLA style.

Well, there are definitely some alumni and administrators who haven't warmed up to Rich Rod (I don't think that this is debatable), but, the suggestion that a coach would be fired after only his second season is just insane. I am of the belief that ANY head coach deserves three years before any serious discussion about his job security can take place, especially one with a track record of success at other programs such as Rodriguez. This isn't the NFL.

I agree with the 3 year rule, but I really do not put much stock in the number of alumni who approve/disapprove of a coach, except it it trends to one extreme or the other. Lloyd, Bo, hell Yost had detractors, and you can always take issue with something a coach does. I think RR will start feeling the heat in 2010 if he does not show some improvement, but at the same time UM has shown a patience that many other schools (such as teams from a certain conference that, let's say, would form the word jumble "CES") clearly no longer employ.

...and coming back to in the future. This asswipe should also read the Scout postings about Michael Schofield's recruitment (Schofield's dad posted about the recruitment process) and how the Michigan staff is far and away the most considerate, thoughtful, and researched recruiting team in the country. Also, Schofield mentioned Rich Rod and co. had great "family values." (Mr. Schofield knows his audience).

The determining factor for the use of a singular or plural verb depends on the nature of the collective noun itself as a singular or plural noun. The word "alumni" is the plural form of "alumnus" or "alumna" just as "children" is the plural form of "child." The original writer is completely incorrect. If he had said "The alumni association hasn't warmed up to him," he would have been correct, as "association" is singular.

No, it's incorrect. This is something that a lot of people get wrong. Here are the proper forms: Alumnus - singular, masculine/neutral Alumna - singular, feminine Alumni - plural, masculine/neutral Alumnae - plural, feminine It is never grammatically correct to use alumni as a singular noun. His sentence has to be changed to make it correct, either to "The alumnus hasn't warmed up to him," or "The alumni haven't warmed up to him." Since he is presumably talking about more than a single Michigan graduate, he should have used the latter.

1. His first six paragraphs were one sentence apiece. 2. "The alumni hasn't warmed up to him." 3. His last nine paragraphs were one sentence apiece. Grade: F-

I didn't even count the sentence fragments that made up most of those one-sentence paragraphs. I feel dirty for having even clicked on that link and helping their stats. Is this how he wrote BEFORE West Virginia became a post-apocalyptic den of insanity, or did RR put him over the edge?

I love how he was sure to mention that Rodriguez was looking even when he had a "good job." Oh, Mr. Objective West Virginia Writer, what job could you possibly be speaking of? It couldn't be the one at, ohhh, West Virginia, could it??? No, because West Virginians didn't want him, anyway

all sounded like vintage MGoBlue commentators. It was actually very funny to see our humor in attack mode. Like "I am dumber for having read this." lol

"That would put Marshall in the position of looking for a head football coach and it would take whoever is running Marshall's athletic department about two seconds to figure out the best available coach is Rich Rodriguez.
I thought RichRod was a terrible coach? Good work Mr writer dude.

All the people in West Vagina seem to feel that Rodriguez owes them something, and they also seem to think that, much like Jesus, he'll be back someday, they just don't know when. In the great words of Marshall Mathers: Let me slow it down for you so you can understand if I say it slower... Let it go dawg, it's over.

What you've just written is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
