Way too early 2019 Football Depth Chart attempt
Can use some help on the backup OL spots, D-Line and linebacker spots as well
Didn’t designate the walk-ons since some get 1-year scholarships sometimes

I was hoping, but someone else! I thinking big Mike would be a hell of a run stopper.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Not needed and a bad move, imo.
Moving a senior to defense that has started at his position the last 2 years? I say, no way.
We'll be fine at DT/NT.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:52 PM ^
He’s not moving, but someone else is planning on it.
i disagree, if Nolan Rumler could earn time then why wouldn’t you consider sending Big Mike over? Our lack of depth and inside penitration was a weakness this year.
January 3rd, 2019 at 10:03 PM ^
We finally having some returning starters who've stabilized our OL. Our Oline has been up in the air, as far as who's going to start. We finally have a starting center and both guards returning. Why mess with that?
Kemp and Dwumfour are returning with Mazi and Hinton coming in. Hinton and Smith have both been talked about as able to contribute as freshman, regardless of need. Add to that Jeter.
DT depth is not even close as a concern as our oline was coming in to the last couple of years.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:42 PM ^
Paea - the next Chase Winovich.
January 3rd, 2019 at 10:05 PM ^
For that matter NT is even worse than DT in terms of depth and experience. It’s why Brian started the Exit Aubrey Solomon post with the words: This is not good.
Lack of depth and experience at those two positions is scary.
January 4th, 2019 at 8:20 AM ^
A very raw talent, with what would seem to be a huge upside, is coming in the '19 class has been playing mostly inside in HS. Mr. Ojabo at 310-320 pounds could end up being a monster, here, in a couple years.
January 3rd, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
That roster actually looks amazing on paper. A lot of talent with lot of speed.
Biggest losses are going to be Bush, winovich, long, higdon, gary, kinnell and Gentry...in this order.
(Solomon, Gil, Ross to help replace Bush. Hinton, Hutchison, Uche and Paye to help replace winovich and Gary. Ambry Thomas for kinnell. Dax Hill for Long. Eubanks to replace Gentry. Charbonnett, evans, Wilson to replace higdon)
somebody hopefully steps up in these spots. Looks very bright!
Predicting 10-1 going against OSU (lone loss to penn state)
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:35 PM ^
9-4, lose osu and bowl game again to end season, defensive line takes big step back and no depth, linebackers no speed
January 4th, 2019 at 9:44 AM ^
Sadly I have to agree with this.
January 4th, 2019 at 9:55 AM ^
who's osu's QB next year? has alot to do with that game. If it's Martell, great chance to win IMHO. If Haskins comes back, we're screwed.
January 4th, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
Oh my!!! You need a new perspective on life. Good luck.
January 4th, 2019 at 2:55 PM ^
Defense is definitely going to take a step back, but we thought that two years ago too and Brown re-loaded it pretty quickly by plugging in young talent. Maybe the silver lining is that JH will realize he is going to have to outscore some teams and will open up his offense. There is actually plenty of NFL talent on the offensive side of the ball now.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:42 PM ^
Penn State just had 5 guys declare for draft: McGovern and Bates (OL), Sanders (RB), Miller and Givens (DL/DE). Plus they lose McSorely, Scott, Farmer and a receiver. They are going to be hurting. Plus they still have a Franklin!
January 3rd, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
I believe Keegan will move inside to a guard position. Carpenter's HS coach said that he would be very good at center-and I believe Harbaugh agreed with that assessment. Rumler is pegged to stay at guard...reports are that he does not wish to move to center...there is no reason for Michigan to want him to as well. Trente Jones has been playing RT and I think that is his position. Mayfield and Hayes will hopefully take over the LT position-sooner rather than later. The reports of Barnhart keep getting better-not sure where he'll end up. Otherwise, this OL position group is setting up to be damn good...and this does not even include all the underclassmen!
January 3rd, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
I'm thinking more T.Jones = LT, Keegan = RT, Barnhart = swingman, Carpenter or Rumler = C, G
January 3rd, 2019 at 11:15 PM ^
I read an article today that Rumler said he would start at guard and would eventually like to move to center.
January 4th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
This is a most wonderful "conundrum" to have! The (further) good news is that Michigan has Warinner to figure this out. I just think that it is better to have a talent like Rumler freed up and not have to worry about making the line calls. Let that kid "simply" concentrate on how he is going to execute that next block.
The 2020 class is becoming a topic of discussion...looks as though the talent pool being strongly recruited will likely continue to add to this stellar group. Myles Hinton, come on down!!!
January 4th, 2019 at 9:54 AM ^
"Rumler is pegged to stay at guard...reports are that he does not wish to move to center..." —Outsidethebox
"Rumler said he would start at guard and would eventually like to move to center." —Double-D
This is the magic of the internet: two people can make diametrically opposite claims in the same thread, yet nobody seems to take notice.
So which is it—does Rumler want to move to center, or not?
January 4th, 2019 at 10:13 AM ^
I noticed.... and I also noticed that this is where the hype train starts...
January 4th, 2019 at 10:53 AM ^
I should know better...putting credence in what sports writers publish. I know what I offered was reported...and that I have never seen it reported that Rumler wanted to move to center. I know it was reported that Rumler stated that making the move would be difficult...does not sound as though it is a move he wishes to make. How's that???
January 4th, 2019 at 7:20 PM ^
“I’m going to start out at guard and get comfortable there,” Rumler told MLive on Wednesday. “And once I get older, I’m going to try and make the transition to center.”
January 3rd, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
Guys need to step up at rb and lb. No one proven strong there but Ross.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:06 PM ^
And Ross didn’t look super great in the bowl game either.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:03 PM ^
Is dont think Martin will be ahead of Bell in the slot. Bell was a very pleasant surprise this year.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:08 PM ^
At 6'1'' - Is Ronnie Bell a slot for the long-term? Or just because we are relatively loaded at the outside WR?
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:55 PM ^
I agree, won’t be shocked to see Oliver transfer. Something is off with him! I think the freshman are more talented too!
January 4th, 2019 at 9:40 AM ^
I disagree. Martin looked much better than Bell IMO. The Bell hype is out of control. He was basically the #6 WR and looked slow. The end arounds they ran with him were painful to watch.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:06 PM ^
Hopefully Stueber gets better because holy crap that looked like Ulizio 2.0 against Florida. I understand everyone loves Tru, hard worker but I hope to only see him in late garbage time. Turner and Charbonnet needs those reps. It’s so hard to project anything this early. A new OC and a changed Harbaugh could really shake things up.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:15 PM ^
Not true. Stueber is nearly equal to JBB as merely a redshirt frosh. Coach Ed will get him at a much higher level than JBB. Stueber's ceiling is way higher than JBB, shit he is only 19years old.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
Don’t agree. JBB was way better in every facet of the game this year over Stueber. It was quite obvious. RT next year will be Runyon and LT will be Mayfield.
January 3rd, 2019 at 10:11 PM ^
That may be true but there's no denying the OL wasn't as good the last two games without JBB.
January 4th, 2019 at 12:56 AM ^
Way off! Steuber looked overmatched a lot, JBB was pretty good when he was healthy.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
It was painfully obvious we missed JBB against better competition.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
Scat Back is not a position in Harbaugh's offense. RB rotation will be scheme driven, but Evans is going to have a prominent role overall. Needs to stay healthy.
January 3rd, 2019 at 10:12 PM ^
I would not underestimate Turner next year. I think he makes a big leap forward. I think he has a chance to be better than Higdon next year. He sees the field better and can carry more weight
January 4th, 2019 at 1:03 AM ^
I get the board soured on Higdon because of sitting out the bowl game, but the kid was 1st team all-conference this past year and had 2,000+ yards over the past 2 seasons. I think it’s a little far-fetched to think a kid who hasn’t ran the ball more than 20 times yet at this level will be more productive than Higdon was this season.
January 4th, 2019 at 9:21 AM ^
Watching Turner in the bowl game, his legs stopped moving on contact. I was quite disappointed.
January 4th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
Also, he should be listed as a RS Freshman for next year right? He didn't play enough game if I recall correctly.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:22 PM ^
Didn't Spanellis back up the center position at some point?
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:32 PM ^
I know everyone gets excited with new blood but I wouldn’t expect freshmen to get serious time unless it’s spot duty or special packages. It’s a serious jump to go from HS to College - I’d be impressed if any of them pull starter snaps - I actually expect AH to move inside if we don’t find a DL transfer.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:57 PM ^
We'll see. I think Charbonnet and Smith are in the rotation immediately and may become starters. Hill should also see a lot of playing time.
January 3rd, 2019 at 10:38 PM ^
If a freshman DL cracks the rotation I will be impressed. My guess is Aidan moves inside and we’ll see a situational rotation of Uche, Paye, Dwumfour, Kemp, Jeter, Hutch, Villain, Paea - I could even see a LB bulking up and playing DE and like I said Hinton and Smith will see run if they’re physically ready.
January 4th, 2019 at 8:27 AM ^
Had not really thought of Aidan moving inside...can see some real upside with this-especially in third and long situations...and in general I would see his quick-twitch speed creating a lot of havoc here-and he has the frame to play well at 300+ pounds. Otherwise, I am not a hand-wringer here, the DL is going to continue to be more than "just fine".
January 4th, 2019 at 3:06 PM ^
It's basically just mirroring what the NFL has been doing for years now - DE's become DL's and LB's become DE's. If you see guys bulking up and putting on weight (a la Kemp) it's usually a sign they're moving somewhere else. I have a gut feeling Anthony might move up to DE similar to what Uche did - provides more speed on the edges and gets as many of your best players on the field at the same time. I know JH and DB will find guys to produce - the concern is always depth and health.
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:33 PM ^
Nice job
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:37 PM ^
I wonder if Paea should move back to DT he was rated pretty decent there by 247
January 3rd, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
I can't believe the Uch-man is already a senior. I'll be a god damned son of a bitch.
January 4th, 2019 at 2:45 AM ^
He played in only 4 games as a true freshman according to MGoBlue's roster page.
If he wants to be a 5th year senior, then he'll be afforded that option.
January 4th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
Prior to this year playing in a single game cost you your redshirt (although not necessarily a chance at a medical redshirt).
