Watching Temple vs. UCF

Maybe I am old-fashioned or a football snob, and UCF may in fact be a good team, but this "constant hurry-up offense" is annoying as hell to watch. I hope they lose tonight and we don't have to hear about them again for a decade...

I really hope the CFP gets expanded to 8. I’d love to see #1 Alabama score 100 on #8 UCF in the opening round.

You know, I may see this one a bit differently than some others. I think it is possible that a non-P5 could be one of the eight best teams in the country (best four would be very rare). I think back to some of the best Boise teams and when the played the big boys either in the regular season or bowl games, you could tell they were good. But UCF. Please. They're like a minor league Big 12 team. Giving up 40 to an average Temple team? Beating the worst Memphis team in several years by one? They are not in that class.

Yeah, I mean, it's great to go fast I guess. But it virtually guarantees your defense is on the field a ton, either because you just scored fast or you went 3 and out. It reminds me of a misguided coaching hire we had once...

Ok, now that UCF has given up 24 to Temple in a quarter, can we just go ahead and say that they objectively suck? I'm really getting sick of the UCF whining. It's as bad as Nebraska whining . . .

Winning out playing a legitimate schedule would be a great start.  If UCF winning out is the impetus that moves the CFP to a 6 or 8 game playoff, look for an immediate downgrading of future schedules with P5 conferences, that are currently playing 9 conference games, reducing the number of conference games to 8.  Do you think that would be a good thing?

I am still perplexed at UCF’s claim of a national title. There is a PLAYOFF SYSTEM in place to determine a champion, yet UCF chooses to ignore it.

This technically isn’t correct. It is a system that awards a champion through the AFCA, rather than to determine a champion (like in the other levels of NCAA football and virtually every other NCAA sport). That’s why you don’t see the FBS “national champion” receive the traditional NCAA national championship trophy/plaque.

As we laugh at the lack of defense, it's easier to play basketball on grass than attempt to field a quality defense for programs that aren't blue-bloods. Recruiting shows on defense more than offense. MSU is one of only 2-3 teams that aren't blue-blood that happen to field a decent defense on a consistant basis. But even they get exposed when they go against a blue-blood program with a good offense due to not having the athletes.

What's really sexy about watching this game is how this sort of buff 235lb fullback is having his way with UCF. I'm just picturing our FB duo smashing 180-205 lb heads all night long.

A couple offensive players on UCF are fast as hell, but UCF would get beat pretty soundly against a lot of top 25 teams.

We are coming up on 700 yards of offense between both teams in just the first half. Lots of Big XII-ish numbers in this game.

Meanwhile, the crew covering Ohio-WMU is talking about what Tim Lester's halftime message was. I am almost certain it was, "WELP...."
