The Vig: Week 5 recap. How did your bets go last week?

Submitted by canzior on October 4th, 2021 at 3:00 PM

Who made money?

Who lost you money?

I played 4 parlays, 2 for $5 (Fanduel) and 2 for $25 (BetUS).

My 1 hit was M, MSU, Liberty, & Kansas St.

Lost the other bets because of ND, Ole Miss, Arkansas, & Baylor.

Ran well on Saturday.
Wins included 2 boosted parlays of PSU/BC and UGA/Pitt (money line).
I tried hedging with both night games and lost - got IU +20.5 in the second quarter and Clemson -6.5.  So, that cut into my winnings.
Then I totally hit a wall with NFL yesterday so I came out a little ahead for the weekend, but not by much.

I placed a lot of free bets early in the week for Wisconsin to win (ML). Obviously, very happy to lose those. I’m not touching UM/Nebraska this weekend.

Best weekend of the year (except golf bets).  18-11 on college.  Bama was my big winner for first half and full game.  Nice parlay ATS with Nebraska, Penn St., and BC.

Do you usually bet close to 30 college football games each weekend?

No judgement if so, but am just curious. I know some cappers that do that and I am not against that strategy if you adjust your unit size and really follow the sport, so I'm not against it if it fits with someone's betting style and can make it work.

I am not a very smart gambler.  I usually bet about five games of 50 to 100 dollars. The rest range from 5 - 20.   I did 17 NFL bets (some are player props) yesterday.  I find myself doing too many in game bets.  As I was watching Penn St. roll Indiana, I kept doing 5 dollar bets all the way up to -19.5. I enjoy the challenge and the money I am playing with is budgeted for entertainment.  I quit drinking so no Urban Meyer entertainment for me.  Just extremely low stakes gambling.

I started the season with 750 spread over two accounts and will play until I run out or the season ends.

I do a little bit of research (reading and podcasts and the Smooth Jimmy lock) and watch way too much football.  I was down or even the first 3 weeks.  The last 2 weeks were good and I am now up 300ish for the season.  Won’t last long.

I tried live dealer roulette on FanDuel, and it just felt...janky...

I dunno if it was the video quality (looked straight out of the 90s), the fact that I honestly couldn't tell if it was "live" or pre-recorded, or what. But as someone who prefers in-person table games to virtual or electronic ones, I was surprised how much I disliked it. Actually much prefer FanDuel's regular (i.e. not live dealer) American Roulette game. Not that I play it often, but I don't know that I'd ever do the live dealer roulette again unless I had a bonus or some kind of incentive to.

Michigan ML +105. I felt like an idiot as I was placing it right before kickoff. That feeling turned quickly!

I see that we are laying 3 to Nebraska. I may just have to let it ride…

I locked in a few bets for this weekend.

Coastal Carolina -17.5 over Arkansas St,

Texas +3.5 over Oklahoma

Georgia -14 over Auburn

UCLA -16 over Arizona

UTSA +2.5 over Western Kentucky

2 team parlay Central -5 and Miami OH -1.5

I have a soft spot for Coastal and UTSA.

You can't lead with that without giving the money stats.  What was your parlay wager and what was your early payout.  And what would've been the payout had you not pulled out too quick?

A 10-leg parlay is a serious revenue stream.  The biggest I ever won was six and I felt really fortunate to get it.  Got a six-leg twice.  I've attempted 10+ legs and never came close.

I covered on Louisiana tech, Boston college, Mississippi state, Stanford, and Minnesota and won on Nevada and ASU outright.   I didn’t cover on Duke, Michigan/Wisky under (a bet I NEVED make….uggh O/U bets), western Kentucky and Mississippi.   Yds/play difference net of SOS is still a relevant metric to use to bet along with site specific info.  Fewer arbitrages as the weeks progress sadly - markets get smarter.

so far this week I like Stanford plus 11.5 - though I LOVE ASU this should be a one possession game.   I will look at the rest as the week goes on but that one jumped out at me.
