Video of Wimbush throwing at recent ND practice

Submitted by likerice on

I saw this video posted on the UHND forum:

There are a few clips of Wimbush looking very erratic on short passes. Maybe he just had a bad day, or maybe he has some Knoblauch-type issues with the short ball.

Mildly interested in that order behind Shea after seeing good rumblings about McCaffrey in the last couple of weeks. It's not really crucial now; it will matter more in the spring if both guys are still here.

I am hopeful, with reasonable cause, that Peters has taken a real step forward from last season. My hope is that Shea's clear edge precedes a real upgrade in quality at the position over the last two years.

This is tantalizing, of course. Hold up a player like that with an inaccurate throw to the edge and Michigan probably has three guys on top of him. I'd love to see this Wimbush on September 1.

But even with rumors of uneven practices this is just one video and we saw just a small handful of passes. I can't judge too much from that.

This game is going to be tougher than we think. ND away, opener, night game, new QB, amped crowd, bound to be some mistakes. Has all the makings of a classic.

I think NDs defense will mitigate our offense for chunks of the game but our defense will be superior.

Going to become a field possession game and will result in a 23 - 13 win for the good guys.

Turnovers will be crucial.

Turnovers are my biggest concern. We've shot ourselves in the foot a lot with those, especially the MSU, OSU and SC games last year.

But, this is a new year and a more experienced team. Let's hope they play with more discipline and keep the mistakes to a bare minimum. If they do that, they can win convincingly.

I've seen enough games where the Irish pull improbable shit out of their asses against Michigan, so I expect Wimbush to have the game of his life against us. Whether that will be enough for ND to win is another thing.

He may look like Joe Montana against us and then look like Jeff Komlo for the rest of the season.  And that would not surprise me in the least.  This game will be much tougher than the Florida opener last year.  On paper, we are the favorite, but there is always some silly shit going on in South Bend at night.  Also see Reggie Ho.

Yea I think ND will throw some wrinkles in their game plan, get a few lucky plays and a few lucky calls* and score a couple easy ones.  I’m thinking our offense will be iffy but we’ll settle and we have enough playmakers/talent to minimize turnovers and score on some nice plays, particularly late.  26-16 Michigan.  We then blow out pretty much everyone until we play Wiscy at 6-0

*like wimbush tossing a hail-mary off his back foot, mid-Rashan Gary sack, into double coverage, which gets pick-6’d but M is called for PI because Bush touched a tight ends arm 44 yards away from any potion of that play, and ND gets first and goal from

I like the play at the end were they seem to be forward lateraling to the running back.  If Chase doesn't simply intercept it, he or Gary could disrupt that play for a fumble.  Now I'm imagining plays in a game that is +2 weeks away. Hooboy. I need to find a good book or something.

No idea how this is going to go. If Shea and the offense are on the same page from Day 1, I could see it being a comfortable win. But that’s a tall order. The more likely scenario is that the offense still needs time to gel together and we have a final score of something like 17-14 that could go either way.

All comes down to who makes the least amount of mistakes, or who makes the critical 4th quarter fumble in their own territory. I wouldn’t gameplan around asking Shea to be a hero for this game. This is still going to be his first start in this offense and it’s on the road against a very good defense. Take what ND’s defense gives you, don’t turn the ball over, and trust that your defense has got your back and should limit ND’s ability to move the ball.
