Update: Offensive Coaching Staff Overhaul

Submitted by MichiganSports3 on

Reading more and more that Dan Enos and Greg Roman will likely be the newest additions to the Michigan coaching staff, replacing Drevno, Pep, and Frey (all of which rumored to have accepted jobs elsewhere). This basically confirms what our "insider" MGoBlog accounts have been posting throughout the day with regards to the coaching changes. In bringing in Greg Roman, it appears that Harbaugh is planning on switching to the pistol offense that he ran with Colin Kaepernick in SF. He's got the QB's for it in Patterson, McCaffrey, and Milton, as well as athletic WR's in DPJ, Black, and Collins. Let's hope it revitalizes the offense for next season.

Note* Nothing is confirmed but I highly doubt that every UM Insider who's been tracking these moves is wrong

Not sure if your being serious, but what he said above, is in fact what is being suggested by staff, mods, and proven insiders on another board. That other board now being basically the only other board. The same board that has Mcguire, and Sosa. It was also suggested to keep an open mind, still some moving pieces that are not mentioned above. Lots of additions, and subtractions. That's all I'm willing to say. Actually just popped over to see if you guys were being made aware of the same, smoke signals. Thanks.

Mixed feelings about this. The change is necessary, no reason a team with this much talent should be this incompetent offensively, play calling and player development wise. That being said Roman isn't a name that instills a ton of confidence, and 1st year in a new offense always leads to struggles. A change is necessary, but this seems like this may be more of a change for changes sake than an upgrade.

Yeah the Romans dealt with far too much corruption plus that lead water makes me thinks the romans shouldn’t give us confidence. At the same time i don’t know how many of us wouldn’t abuse control. Honestly I abuse far too many things

Seriously fuck that dude in your avatar. He made a video where he showed him hanging some little kid because he was white. On a serious note, if I ever run into that fucker, I am going to literally beat the life out of him. No hesitation

I got banned after the game, for going off on some guy who made a terrible post about the players’ tweets. I think the wrong person may have been banned because my comment was like 15 to 1 in upvotes to downvotes. Wasn’t like me at all to get that angry. Was just hung over and angry about the loss. I created a new account and it didn’t get banned again so I’m assuming they got the wrong guy. There was another guy who got banned for no reason as well.

Pretty amazing no one on here can reach a consensus on who calls the plays. People say its's Harbaugh, "no, it's Drevno!", "no, it's Drevno AND Hamilton" (which I've never heard before until today). Harbaugh even said the tight end fumble was his mistake, so why do people think he's gonna fix that after we get a new OC? Harbaugh has to either fix that himself, or give the reins to someone else entirely

It has been widely reported that Drevno is the primary play-caller. Harbaugh has himself said that he has final say in all calls, which makes sense for him to claim and to do. He can overrule or call his own play if and when he sees something, and it theoretically puts him in the crosshairs of criticism instead of one of his assistants. It's what people in executive roles do, or at the very least what they SHOULD do.

Remember the game (think it was 2005) where a late UM turnover gave I think it was MSU points before the end of the half? Remember the interview with Carr walking to the lockerroom? He was asked who made that call. He glared at the reporter, (think it was Todd Harris) and after an uncomfortable pause stated declaratively, "I did."

It's what Head Coaches do. I don't get why it's so difficult for people to grasp, except that we love to ignore counterclaims to our own personal points.

It was 2003, and it was the end of the game, with Michigan running Chris Perry down MSU's throat. We were on our way to clinching the game and a play-action call after what felt like 50 straight runs resulted in a fumble returned for a TD the other way. We still won but that play was the only reason the game was in question.

That's right...it was the end of the 1st half in 2003. What a great Michigan game that was.

Perry 51 carries for 219 yards. John Navarre was credited with 3 carries. David "Don't Call Me Francis" Underwood had 1. That was it.

Outrushed MSU 216-36, and only won by a single score b/c of the play action pass at the end of the first half.

I’m excited to see them add the pistol with more run option. When his offense was at its peak (San Fran) it was with the run option mixed in. It’s sorely been missed in this offense, as we’ve seen a lack of dual threats at QB. If Shea is eligible and they use him this way, this offense could get really good and really fun to watch.

That’s the absolute key to Ohio States offense. Meyer would rather have a QB who can run and can’t throw the ball 10 yards (Tebow) than someone with a cannon but is a statue. As long as you have the weapons on the field to take cross routes and screens for big gains, a mobile QB alone can suffice. Example A: JT Barrett. I think any permanent wrinkle/creative strategic change can only benefit this team.

I swear I saw several RPO style plays in the Bowl game where Peters “rode” the handoff before releasing.

I thought “this makes no sense” as there was no chance BP was ever pulling and keeping. I am not sure if this is due to his limitations as a runner or abject fear by the staff of having to play O’Korn if he went down.

In either case, if I could see it I am sure as hell Muschamp and staff could see it.

Would be nice to add as a facet next year.
