Update on the Mo Bamba Situation, with Quotes from "Booster"
http://texas.247sports.com/Article/Exclusive-Elite-Texas-Commit-Mo-Bamb…
Now, this comes from a Longhorns site, so I have no doubt this is crafted in the most "pro-Texas" way possible. But a few facts and tidbits in here seem to make this "scandal" suddenly sound like a whole lot of nothing, and these facts are pretty easy to verify as well...
1. Greer Love was cleared as a person with a "pre-existing relationship" with Bamba long ago, was involved in all facets of Bamba's recruitment from the get-go, consulted with compliance folks in the B1G and Big 12 to make sure he did things the "right way," etc. This was apparently well known by anyone involved in Bamba's recruitment (including the NCAA via the eligibility determination process, I presume), and thus makes the whole situation feel far less shady. It notes in the article that Love is not a "booster" of any school, FYI, whatever that means.
2. The disgruntled brother who made the video apparently has a half-dozen pending felony charges in three different states, including hit-and-run and drug charges. The family tried to keep him out of Bamba's recruitment all along, but the guy kept trying to insert himself, and this vengeful video seems to be the end-result payback. If it's this guy's word against virtually anyone else's word, including a guy that used his own money to start a charitable organization in Harlem and mentor Bamba and dozens of other kids, I think the brother loses (badly).
IMO, with my admittedly limited knowledge, this story goes no where from here on out...
So did we in fact get hit with that bullet?
Yeah, he's clean.
from claiming that this proves Michigan cheats and this is why we are worse than them. Facts are mearly small hurdles they will use when they use their Michigan sucks "jump to conclusions mat".
I dont know, thats a mental leap that I do not think they are capable of.
The important thing is we can keep saying everybody else pays their players and Beilein is a saint whenever we miss on a bball player.
Dang I hate when all the evidence aligns with Sparty theories.
So it is proven that Beilein is running a dirty program, and has been, coincidentally, since the time Harbaugh was hired...
And what really stinks is that Beilein can't even run a successful dirty program, because Bamba didn't come to Michigan. What a failure. Ugh...
Thankfully we have the Blue Wall Media in Michigan to make sure this story disappears!
10/10
It's missing something about Walmart though.
Kid's half brother sounds like a real ratbag.
100% fuck his brother. Your bro has a once in lifetime chance to play college basketball and then potentially NBA ball, and you go and make it about you with snitching. If I had a brother and he was a 5 star recruit, not only would i not snitch, I would personally meet with the bagmen and take that money without my bro's involvement as an insurance policy in case he got injured.
You were kidding, but I suspect this is essentially what happens. The bagman money might go through a church (Cam Newton) or a car dealership (Ohio State).
I was not really kidding. If it could be done without messing things up for my (hypothetical) bro, I would.
I know people invovled in college Bball recruiting and this does happen. College Bball is WAY more dirty than football. Parents often take money to steer kids to schools. And I think it is absolutely responsible and the right thing to do as a parent/family member. If these guys get injured, they are likely screwed. Take the money!
You didn't learn anything from Reggie Bush and Pete Carroll...
Now, this comes from a Longhorns site, so I have no doubt this is crafted in the most "pro-Texas" way possible.
It's on the News as well now... http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/2017/06/29/brother-bamba-ex-um-target-took-cash-adviser/103290258/
Also not a frequent poster. I went through the UM MBA program with Greer. He's a legit great guy and I consider him a great friend to this day.
Given the speed at which information travels, I'm not at all surprised that a salacious rumour took on a life of its own.
good luck kid
I'm sure he can crash with Laremy Tunsil's dad if he ever needs a place to stay.
there is some real Cain and Abel stuff going on here. Especially if Abel were a five-star recruit with a 7'3" wingspan and small-forward level ballhandling skills.
See the thread above for Cain news.
I really appreciate this post. In the first thread, my observation was twofold.
- First, I was reluctant to pass judgement of any kind, without a lot more information.
- Second, I did speculate that 5 star talent often has a lot of pressure from family and friends wanting to cash in.
I don't remember where, but in the Mo Bamba recruitment, I do recall having a sense that the family was doing things the right way. This made the current kerfuffle confusing. This second post explains an awful lot.
It is my hope that all is successfully resolved, and that Mo Bamba will be able to play this season.
I also know Greer as a classmate and...well, more of an acquaintance.
To Socrates' point, Greer's an excellent guy of high character. Sucks to see him dragged thru the mud on this one.
Is he a little brother?
His brother is hurt and pissed cause MO couldnt get him into Texas grad school. He wanted in no matter what and expected cause his brother went there he would just be let into grad school. He is pissed and hurt and now is trying to get back at his brother. It says Greer was known by everyone recruiting him and he gave them information about who he was and how his relationship was with MO. It seems like his brother is trying to mess up Mo cause he didnt get what he wanted.
As the biggest hole in this story from the very beginning is that Greer has no connection whatsoever with Texas. Had Bamba committed to Michigan, the story will turn much worse even Greer had clearence with NCAA and BIG.
