College Football Playoff

Because when Oregon beat OSU it was a road win by a TD where Oregon played a great game, and Officiating mistakes were not a larger influence than the general norm. When MSU beat Michigan, it was at home by 3, and Michigan was handling them until extremely poor officiating significantly impacted the outcome. You can say “MSU made plays” and “Michigan didn’t”, but that ignores that Michigan did, in fact, make plays to win they were just inexplicably negated by bad calls. I don’t have a problem with the committee being “inconsistent” because they’ve never utilized one criteria above the others in all cases. I’m personally glad they as a group don’t celebrate terrible officiating.

The world is more as it should be.

The exec avoided any talk of officiating.

Are there State students setting couches on fire right now?

When you compare resumes, Michigan has the better resume. MSU barely beat Mich at home and had a worse loss. Mich's only loss was by 4 pts to the #7 team on the road. Mich also has a blowout win over #18 Wisconsin on the road. MSU's best win, other than against UM, was against a weak Miami team.

So other than the better win over the #6 team they don't have a better win. Who exactly do you think Michigan's second best win is that is so much better than Miami? Nebraska? Rutgers? Washington?

The argument that Michigan's resume is better is essentially that the loss doesn't really count because they played pretty well except for a few bad plays that cost them the game?

This is only going to matter if Michigan wins out over the next 3 weeks and spartie doesn't.

However, I did yell a "HAIL YES!" when ESPN finally unveiled who this week is in the #6 spot.

MSU deserves credit for the win.  The committee thinks UM wins that game 7 times out of 10 and are likely the better team on a neutral field.  And MSU lost decisively to Purdue.

UM deserves to pass MSU in the CFP poll.  Why?

UM was the only top ten team to beat their spread last weekend.  MSU was favored by 3 over Purdue, yet lost by 11.

UM has a stronger SoS, is a more consistent and well-rounded team.  On a neutral field, if UM played MSU ten times in a row, UM would win 7 of those 10.

If UM can get past PSU this weekend, the UM/OSU game is gonna be biblical in size!

Don’t forget Maryland. Yes they’re depleted but still have to win both games. Even so OSU will be huge as win that game and this season is an unmitigated success even if we don’t make it to the promised land this year. Completely and finally changes the narrative. Obviously let’s win all three.

I agree with Galloway. You have 2 8-1 teams. One lost to #7 and the other lost to #16. Pretty simple to see who has the “worse loss”. Also the head to head turned out to be pretty even, that it isn’t the deciding factor that Pollack wants it to be. Even the committee guy said the advanced stats say Michigan has the more complete team. And as herbstreit said it’s all academic anyway.

The committee judges the value of games when at the time they were played.  Purdue was unranked, and MSU was favored by 3.  MSU lost by 11.

Besides, Purdue didnt get its #19 ranking until the new CFP poll came out.  The committee cant use the unfinished brand-new rankings to determine the brand-new rankings, get it?

I hate losing to Sparty even worse than OSU so this puts a smile to my face. There’s no coach I loath more than Dantonio but Tucker is gaining.

UM moving to #6 in the CFP could have a small effect on the line UM/PSU line.  Right now it's a pick-em at the casinos.  The #6 ranking could make UM a 1 or 2 point favorite.

In other CFP news, the SEC once again has the top 1-loss, 2-loss and 3-loss team in the rankings. Sucks that PSU is not ranked. Would've been great to have a second road win against a CFP ranked team.

I and most every person I talked to after that game (reasonable MSU fans included) thought Michigan was the better team but just did some mind boggingly stupid things down the stretch while getting screwed on a few key calls. Apparently the committee agrees.
