Unverified: OSU Video Staff Ties to UM Games?

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on November 22nd, 2023 at 6:35 AM

Overnight some items have emerged regarding OSU video and support staff that are nearly 1:1 mirrors of the items used to indict Stalions in the public court of law

https://ibb.co/qj5j96j

In short, a staff member of OSU tied to video production has used “milk” as payment code every week to others, with other questionable code, language, etc.

Users are encouraged to make up their own mind about what’s provided here but the replies and comments capture a significant amount of things aside/beyond the Catapult matter. At minimum it raises questions on why Michigan was in the news nonstop for similar connections while this is solely “message board fodder,” as well as why the BIG/NCAA haven’t sought parity with their own “investigation” based on the same innuendo… unless the only basis was an illegally attained access point to digital storage space.

I'm sorry to throw cold water on this, but I took a glance at those Venmo profiles last night when they were still public, and this friend group seems to use "milk" as their caption for anything. Pretty much any transaction involving either of these two profiles uses the word "milk" or the milk emoji. I have no idea why that is, but there are dozens of "milk" transactions dating back several years, many of which are during the offseason and many of which don't involve the OSU staffers tied to Catapult. It's probably just an inside joke, but even if they are using the caption to cover up nefarious transactions, the timing and frequency of the transactions probably don't support the inference that they are related to college football. Either that, or this was a truly massive scheme that involved 10+ people and extended to spring practices and/or other sports.

And, sorry, but "Canes" is assuredly a reference to Raising Canes. Ohio State did not play Miami or any of Miami's opponents this year. The only Venmo transaction of obvious intrigue is the one captioned "nittany lions" but that occurred the weekend of the 2022 OSU-PSU game, and you would probably expect it to be earlier if it had to do with advanced scouting.

I would love for proof of OSU's wrongdoing to come to light, and I suspect in due time that it will. But the "milk" transactions do not seem to be it.

Don't hold your breath for Cryin' Day to be suspended for The Game. But if this is substantiated and OSU doesn't suffer harsh consequences, then I think we should run and not walk to the ACC, and take our millions of viewers with us.

I have less and less doubt that people are going to feel Petiti screwed up royally as time passes.

The problem is that these two universities are very different. In light of what happened with cheeseburger-gate, Michigan chose to cooperate fully and roll over like a whimpering puppy dog during this investigation. OSU is from the Urban Meyer school of cooperation, which consists of destroying evidence, and lying through your teeth. Let’s not forget that he destroyed evidence of multiple major felonies and aided and abetted a wife-beating piece of shit on his staff. OSU already has the Big Ten commissioner in its pocket and will make this go away using every criminal and corrupt approach possible. This is going nowhere.

Agree with everything, but one clarification: the grant of rights just locks in the broadcast rights. The TV deal would absolutely be up for negotiation if it gained broadcast rights for Michigan games. It still would not get the deal the b10 has though (Michigan-OSU > Michigan FSU)

From the link below, it would seem that there is significant latitude as to NCAA reporting - How about a bunch of Mgobloggers sharing the wealth with the NCAA?

https://www.ncaa.org/sports/2021/6/28/infractions-process.aspx

Enforcement

The NCAA enforcement staff monitors information regarding potential violations, investigates potential threats to college sports, processes less serious violations, provides notice of alleged violations to schools and involved individuals, and presents cases to the Committees on Infractions. Information on possible violations is reported to the NCAA enforcement staff in several ways, such as self-reporting, sources, phone calls, public or member tips, and social media. Enforcement investigators charged with reviewing information about potential violations are committed to doing so in a fair, accurate, collaborative and timely manner. The enforcement staff works together with schools and other parties to uncover the facts and assess whether violations may have occurred. Not all tips are substantiated, and not all reported behaviors are violations of NCAA rules. At the completion of an investigation, the enforcement staff works collaboratively with schools to prepare potential violations for presentation to the NCAA Committees on Infractions.

The reason why the ingratiation into Michigan was successful is far more than Stalions’ activity being reported to the NCAA. If only that happened, we likely would have had a normal investigation where no one in the public knows what’s happening until the notice of allegations was delivered to Michigan.
Instead, I think it’s very likely that the PI Firm reported it to the NCAA AND let them know they would be breaking this to ESPN as well due to the “serious” nature of the allegations. This put pressure on the NCAA to notify the Big Ten and act like it was an huge deal even though they had no reason to normally do so for an investigation of this kind.

The difference is that the PI firm already did the leg work on this kind of stuff. To be successful, they would need:

Access to a stadium's resale ticket purchases.

Access to the CCTV footage from the game and of the person in the stadium and in their seat.

Ohio did that and then went a step further by 'accessing' Stalions spread sheet which listed participants, dates and times as well as his purchase of the tickets.

Access to the film the 3rd party's upload.

A PI firm is not going to be able to get that information without help from a university.

Until this is reported by a major news outlet and starts gaining traction that way, I really don’t think anyone’s going to care.

Maybe it turns into a thing in the offseason. It’s of no consequence for Saturday.

In any case, I decided to humor myself and click on the link, and there was nothing there except a few unrelated ad links and HTML codes, so I don’t even know what I’m looking at.

There is absolutely NO way CS was the only one in CFB or even the B1G doing this, no way not in the age where every one has a small, easily concealed camera is their pockets (we are all basically CS) and in a sport where everyone is desperately trying to get a leg up (or not get left behind)...and one thing that is certain about 'vast networks' is that they cross paths and are aware of each other...

There is a lot of money involved.  Upper echelon head coaches make near 8 figures, athletic department handle 9 figure budgets, conferences 10 figure TV contracts...  Not to mention the highly competitive nature of some people involved.  I find it completely credible that highly unethical and probably sometimes illegal acts occur that are well outside the boundaries permitted by the rules.  Whether the specifics here are true and verifiable is a different question.

Of course Michigan isn’t the only program that’s been doing this. Michigan, anymore specifically Conner Stallions, are the only folks who (so far) were dumb enough to get caught.

Michigan is absolutely not the only program out there that has cheated to some degree. Their issue is that they just really, REALLY SUCK at cheating. Or at least suck at covering their tracks.

Stalions wasn't hiding it because it's not illegal.  What Michigan got "caught" in was a hysterical media frenzy by sports "journalists" clawing for every click, facts be damned.  It's true that they were also caught up in Teeny's scheme to show himself to be a Big Swinging Dick, but that would have happened the same even if no one ever heard of Conner Stalions or "sign-stealing."  Teeny would just have found another bogus excuse to try to get Harbaugh fired.

I'm sure they did. There's no way we're the only ones looking for ways to get a competitive advantage within the rules (saying that because it seems like Stalions tried to do that). The problem is, Michigan now has a big target on its back and has been convicted not only in the court of public opinion but by the Big Ten. So everything we offer up now sounds like sour grapes to anyone that buys the conviction. From a PR standpoint, now is not the best time to put out any information simply because it will fall on too many deaf ears. From the sound of it, the Big Ten already declined to listen to the allegations of other teams sharing our signs with each other. The SI article posted yesterday does a good job of laying out why that, in itself, might be a violation of the sportsmanship rule and yet....crickets on that.

I will need to defer to Brian or Seth for some of these rumors - they have far more relevant connections than I do (all of mine are in Building Operations and Facilities because of what I do, so the rumors are of a different nature in my world), and they are better equipped to determine how grounded this stuff is.

I do recall that I am blocked by MichiganNation2 on Twitter, however. Probably because they are of the opinion that I was an asshole to them. That happens sometimes.

"...most private restrooms are located."

That information is GOLD!  I, for one, have a phobia of some sort about OSU-ing in the same restroom all of my co-workers pee in.  I want privacy!

Coolers on a beach don't work for me when its time to apply the Charmin...
