UM's Wojcik Perfect 10 on the Beam
Apparently it's been a while since this last happened. There's an embedded link to the routine in the article. 1 of 3 Wolverines all time, and the first since '97. Pretty damn impressive.

I saw that - flawless performance. that routine on the beam may as well have been made for the floor exercise.

That's so cool. I cannot imagine doing flips and landing on something barely as wide as my feet.
Curious though... she's a 2 time all-American and reigning NCAA champion where does that put her in terms of competing for a spot on the US national team? That's an impressive resume but we don't see many college kids in the Olympics for example.

No idea. My only exposure to the sport is the Olympic level, and I seem to recall a lot more elements being needed--like 2 or 3 triple passes instead of just 1. Not to take away from what was done here, but the Olympics level seems to be at least a marginal step up.

Based off of the last 2 US women's Olympic gymnastic teams, only one had a collegiate career at all (source:wikipedia), and it wasn't until after she retired from "elite" competition. This would suggest that collegiate Women's gymnastics is a step lower.

Per my wife, who has some competitive gymnastics experience, female gymnasts typically peak around age 16 (male gymnasts peak later, in the early 20s or so). So female college gymnasts have largely missed their window for Olympic competition.

That was an incredible routine but Olympic level gymnastics is a on a different level than college, at least for women.

Yep. College careers generally take place after Olympic careers, and many American gymnasts don't go that route because our women's teams have been pretty successful and post Olympics is the best time to cash in... removing amateur status. My wife's cousin, Jordyn Wieber, went straight into making money. She then went to being an assistant coach at UCLA and now is the head coach at Arkansas.
We did have a former Olympian decide to compete for us here at Michigan about 20 years ago, Elise Ray, and she was one of our best.

1997 - What a year!
UM - First Football National Championship in my lifetime
DRW - First Stanley Cup Championship in 42 years (also in my lifetime)
Great California wine vintage
And a 10 on the Beam!!!
Glory Days....

...and depending on which part of the 'year' one claims, a frozen four appearance and CCHA title (96-97) or a national championship (97-98).

Wow. Soooo impressive.

Someone downvoted me because I cheered a Michigan athlete? That's curious.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
must've read some sarcasm into it that you didn't intend.

Olympics or not, that’s something to write home about.

that was impressive!! Congrats to her!
When I first read the OP, i wondered who coaxed WoJo into attempting the Beam, well the one that's not poured in a rocks glass.....

Thanks for the link! Sharing with my gymnast daughter. This is good recruitment material for her to look at going to Michigan for college!
