Twitter Smoke: Chris Partridge Leaving UM?

Submitted by Caesar on December 12th, 2019 at 8:57 PM

B1G Tim (@Coachfleck11) on Twitter is a high school football coach and Michigan observer. I don't follow him closely, but I don't believe he's a rumor monger. Anyway, according to him, Coach Partridge is no longer making at-home recruiting visits

In response to his assertion, another Twitter user commented that the coach was just in North Carolina.

Does anyone know about this either way? Is there some smoke building? With all the talk about the talent gap with OSU, this would be a big blow.

That.... makes sense. Based on no evidence whatsoever, it is at least logical, which most of the posts below this are not. Despite some weird people here touting him as better than Don Brown he has never DC'd anywhere in D1 ball. Would give him a chance to get the experience he needs to move up, and put him back in recruiting grounds he knows.

I’d honestly be shocked if at some point he doesn’t move on to be a DC somewhere else.   He is 49 and if he has higher career ambitions, it is unclear how much more he can get out of his current position.    Unless Harbaugh wants to make him an associate head coach, there is really nowhere for him to go.

Fuck this man.

If we lose Patridge and keep Don Brown(eye), what a joke.

Make Patridge the Defensive Coordinator.  He can't be even worse than the steam piling of shit Brown is putting together.

12 out of 13 games per year are played against non-Ohio State teams.

It's not all Don Brown. Some of it is Harbaugh. Some of it is boneheaded plays on the players' part. I can't put it all on Brown when the life gets sucked out of the team after stupid turnovers, players not keeping outside contain, wide receivers dropping balls, etc.

pretty much this... im so sick of these keyboard warriors shit talking a top-tier DC.  Like that's all you have to contribute??  At least come up with an idea of who you think would be better, that is actually attainable for us (you probably haven't even thought of it)

Fuck off, all of you.  Useless complaining.

We're not the AD. We can complain without having any idea of who could be DC. All we're saying is DB can't cut it against top offenses AND the game is always evolving. It eventually passes everyone by. Was he a great DC? Yes, in other leagues against much less talented teams.

We all know about the stats. Stats don't win games. Neither does giving up 62 and 56.

then don't read keyboard warrior shit hero... go read War and Peace or Gravity's Rainbow and save your faux outrage for your chai latte, sewing circle.

Useless, pillow-biting complaining.

Don is past his prime; so he had a good season at Connecticut; who gives a flying fuck.  PRODUCE. NOW. VS. OSU.

Thank you and politely go fuck your sorry self.

We are NOT close to 11-1 every year as JH has not won a meaningful road game during his tenure and his record against top 10 teams is 1-10 (or close to it).  Where is DB's great defense???

His defense's pummel lesser opponents, but against good teams, well not so much.

People stop looking at defensive statistics, look at the W-L record!

All factually correct.

However...it is impossible to know the cause.

Is it because D Brown's system is a schematic liability against top 10 teams?  Or is it because M just has recruited at the ND/PSU level and not the OSU/Alabama level?  Or is it some combination of both, and in what proportions?

Even if some material portion is attributable to D Brown's scheme, that does not mean that the replacement DC will be better.  See, e.g.,Carr to RRod transition.

At this point the entire narrative surrounding Harbaugh's program is about the OSU game.  Those other 12 game carry much less significance.  And Brown's unit has gotten obliterated to the tune of 55+ allowed in what are two of the worst defensive performances in the history of this rivalry.  And he even had the audacity to run his mouth this year about how OSU better "be careful".  The defense is getting worse year after year, and it's not like there's a huge infusion of top defensive talent coming in.  We need better.

Brown and Harbuagh took a calculated risk to go 3-3-5 with smaller DL to combat OSU offense but they apparently went too small and couldn't afford misses at DT and Solomon leaving iced it.  Now they cannot handle the bigger teams. sucks.  Was a calculated risk that didn't pay off.  He is still a great coach but it won't work in Big Ten apparently.

Let's be honest about Solomon...Was it really a big deal that he left?  Look at what he did in Tennessess..absolutely nothing....So losing him wasn't really a loss as he didn't produce at his new team as well.   Highschool stud and college flame out.  These things happen, but lets not say our defense crumbled because he left.

The facts are our Defensive Tackle recruiting has been subpar.   We also seem to run a very complicated scheme which may be why the defense is not getting the top level athletes.  Think about it: Hinton (who did play more the last 2 games) and Smith, because of their rankings, more than likely would have played a lot of meaningful snaps at almost any other school, but at Michigan because of our scheme, they barely played.

Glasgow is a perfect example, yea he gets the complexity of our defense but is a sub par athlete compared to Ross, Anthony or any of our other LB's.   Our best athletes need to play, period.  Brown and Harbaugh continue to try and hammer square pegs in round holes.  The other premier teams (Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, etc) run concepts that enhance their players natural abilities where as we force our players to at times negative their athletic abilities in order to fit into a skematic concept.

No one is going to want to come to Michigan, especially on the Defensive side of the ball, when they know that its going to take 1-2 years before they even see the field because of the complexity of the defense.

Whether we like it or not, the road to any sort of Championship (Conference or National) goes through Ohio State.  Thus we need the best athletes we can get and you live with a less complex scheme.  THis is why people are on Jim and Don for not beating Ohio State.  We HAVE TO beat them in order to achieve any of our goals.
